Masonite without anything behind it for support will probably warp. I know that plywood is quite expensive right now, but you will be happier in the long run. Drywall would be easier. Getting tight fitting joints on a stairwell with plywood is time consuming. Good luck, Brian

I’ve installed a lot of these fans. I used greenfield as Norcal suggested. Stranded wire is much easier to terminate wires in the small junction box.

I have a booster fan. Works great. The only problem that I have ever had with it is the tube on the pressure switch froze a few times and it wouldn’t turn the fan off after the dryer shut off.
