    Fluke Addiction Thread

I have the same Fluke 79-3 meter, that is normal operation when in AC autoranging mode. What I usually do is hit the "RANGE" hold switch multiple times until it is on the scale I want.

    Surface Drive vs SuperTorque

Last year I replaced a lot of my 80's Craftsman non-flank drive sockets with Williams sockets from Zoro. Living in a rust state, I've found the Williams sockets to perform much better. However, had two problems. One, the sockets were dropped shipped directly from Williams and two of the sets had...

    Where does Tekton rank?

Received my first Craftsman tool kit (ratchets and sockets) back in 1980 as a HS graduation gift. They are NOT flank drive style. A few years ago I replaced them with US made Williams sockets (they have versions made in Taiwan). Williams is supposedly the OEM for Snap-on sockets. Living in...

    Peg Board Tool Organizers

I once used the loops to hold pliers, but it takes up a lot of board space and pliers need headroom to be removed - not an efficient use of space. Based upon recommendations in this forum, I picked up a Plyworx Pliersrack PLR15 Plier Organizer. It has two pins that fit into holes in the back...

Found nothing using search. Looking for the best (quiet) multi-tool.

Back in 2021, ToolboxBuzz reviewed 12 models and included noise in their ratings. The best for noise was the Fein 500 with 94.2 dB at no load and 112.9 dB while cutting metal. The Bosch GOP 18V-28N was the worst with 105.6 dB and 119.6 dB respectively. For audio, a 10 dB change is a doubling in...

    Wrinkle Paint Care

From an older thread, WD40 and a nylon brush? Have yet to try it on mine though. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/cleaning-kennedy-brown-crinkle-paint.333894/

    Best Machine Tool Cleaner?

Do yourself a favor and read the SDS, skin irritation is Category 2 and eye irritation is category 2A. The SDS from the HD website: https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/96/967064eb-76c7-45eb-ac3f-305ff4810e3d.pdf

    SK 3/8 rebuild kits

I also tried a 1/2" DT100 kit, it increased the backdrag but nowheres as bad as the DT80 kit in the 3/8". The backdrag is just slightly past the edge of where I consider it acceptable. That 1/2" ratchet is never grabbed first - I'm keeping it around in case I need the higher tooth count for a job.

    SK 3/8 rebuild kits

The two repair kits mentioned above by bbrins maintain the original 40 tooth count. The SK DT80 kit doubles the tooth count, but also results in a very high back drag - I tried a DT80 kit but removed it.

    Ratcheting Tap wrenches

A few years ago, based on reviews/recommendations from this forum, I picked up a Schroder RS40064 ratchet tap wrench, it seems well made. Has a small hole in the end for a centering jig allowing the use of a drill press to align the tap when starting. They have a few different sizes including...

Finally got an SK 3870/DT 80 kits

What lube did you use when you installed the DT100 for your friends? I used the clear grease that came with both the DT80 and DT100 kits for the lube, it appears similar to the non DT repair kits. I also have the red lube recommended on other threads, but have not tried it in any round head...

Thinking about retiring my USA Craftsman tools

I still have my Craftsman ratchets and sockets bought back in the 1980's when I too was a bit younger. Have yet to destroy any sockets but ratchets don't seem to survive even though breaker bars are used when appropriate. I live in New England - using flank drive sockets and wrenches is a game...

Finally got an SK 3870/DT 80 kits

Last year I picked up an SK 3870 roto on ebay for a bit more than you paid, it has a silky smooth mechanism with minimal back drag, fantastic to use. I also picked up a used SK 3/8" roundhead and bought a pair of DT80 kits from Harry Epstein. I installed one kit in the non Roto and the backdrag...

Good quality files -What do you recomend

For aluminum and plastic, I picked up a Bahco 10-Inch FM10 File Master and have been very impressed. It cuts through both materials fast, leaves a fairly smooth surface, and doesn't fill up with the material it removes. Wish I had known about these sooner. Also picked up a few Bahco files to...

Old Craftsmen table saw fence question

Just took a look at my 113.298030, the spacers for the front rail are 0.5" long. This fence is not the best for daily use, mine requires a light "tap" to the right on the far end before locking it down to keep it parallel with the blade. There is a Reddit community dedicated to these 113 series...
