I bought a "vintage" Craftsman tap and die set at a garage sale for a reasonable price. It looks like it has not been used very much, but there is some light rust. What is the easiest way to remove the rust ?

Cheap. Quick. Scotch 35 White Electrical Tape. Sharpie Ultra Fine Point.

Use a solid aluminum rivet. On the back side use a very small punch in the center to "mushroom" the shaft.

It happens in cars also ! Run a wire from the negative post of the battery to the back of the vehicle. Check for voltage between the wire and the frame. That is not a "real world" example, but it does happen. One common mistake is to connect both ends of a braided shield to "ground".

Hmm ... I didn't know that ! When we rewired my son's house we put in a 4 wire outlet for the dryer. Of course, the dryer had a 3 wire plug. New 4 wire pigtail and hooked the ground (green) to the frame.

A GFCI receptacle can be used on any old 2 wire circuit and protect the outlet. Anything downstream would also be protected.

If you are just doing "scheduled maintenance", you can not afford anything more than the simplest "code reader" !
