This may be a silly question but doing a quick search I could not find an answer. Why did Simplex emboss their vises with "steel slide"? Is it actually different from the other cast iron slides of other makes or just marketing? Is it better? thanks!!

That is a great old vise, I have been looking for a prentiss for quite a while. My humble opinion...if you only need one vise, get rid of that wilton and keep the prentiss. Not only is it a better vise (the wilton is probably chinese) but it has some family history with it.

It is hard to judge the size but it looks like my Erie 203. Mine doesn't have a swivel base either.

Anyone have a lead screw and the main nut for a columbian 505? I have some wilton parts to trade!
