My favorite locks to collect! Any name on the other side of the lock?
No, Jeff, there wasn’t. What should I look for if I see them with a name on the back?

My favorite locks to collect! Any name on the other side of the lock?
I hit a few local sales today in the way to a grocery pick up. Mostly junk except for these - Coleman lantern and can of white gas, mostly full for $3. Dome has a few minor rim dings but is almost minty otherwise. I am not sure if this was a good deal but for the price I figured it would be a good user! Looks vintage but not so vintage that I am super **** about it. Anything I should do before I fire it? The fuel in it smells fresh. Also picked this craftsman long c drill with chuck for $1! It is dirty but should clean up well and looks super cool! The from end reminds me of a Art Deco design airplane

You made a great deal! I keep looking at those things but they are $90 a piece for the cheapest one Harbor Freight sells. He didn't want to split them up so I made the deal.
Great deals on BOTH Smoke!
three bucks for the fuel (thats Cheap!) and a free lantern!
The fuel inside - IF its not regular pump gas (with the can there, I doubt it) should be fine. (Smell should be sort of sweet, rather that the fume Pump gas has)
Does the pump work? if not see if the pump leather is leather or neoprene, Leather you can oil (neatsfoot is best, but Ballistol, or if you must, olive oil will do in pinch), Neoprine not pumping and the pump is probably done, but you can try an oil... If leather and its shot, leather pump cups are easily available.
Those mantels look good in the pic, but make sure there are no holes. You can permanently mark or even break a globe with the plasma stream that can leak out...
The cap gasket may or may not leak, make sure it doesn't
If the main valve or cleaning lever are hard to turn, you can crack the packing nut till it loosens, and conversely if either leak, you can tighten the same nut..
Other than that follow the lighting directions closely, and you should have a great user. the 220's are pretty much bulletproof once any small issues are taken care of.
I would pick up some spare mantles, as those are a consumable. Walmart usually has them, but try to stay clear of the clip-ons. Those break as often as not.
Might mean the batteries leaked inside the light.[*]Mini Maglite with belt pouch (can't open the battery end, suggestions?)

Thanks for the info outlaw! I know it is white gas inside. We used to use white gas stoves in scouts. When checking the mantle, how do I check to see if it has holes? Just visual inspection? Didn’t you create a lantern thread?

[*]Mephisto 24 oz. Ball-peen hammer.
Cool Mephisto hammer.

The other day, picked up a hand plane at a yard sale which only had the markings on the iron, which was Keystone Mfg Co Louisville KY (ie. pic 5 shows it faintly on the iron)
Is that a hunting knife in there too? maybe a K-bar?
Yea I hope not, it was just a dollar but would like to use it.Might mean the batteries leaked inside the light.
Visual, both unlit and lit (you are really looking for obvious anomalies in the burn, but don't blind yourself...)
I did a write-up on the Coleman forum for diagnosing lantern issues recently, I should cross post it to my camping gear thread but for now: Basic Lantern Diagnostics:
Went out to find more sales this AM (having the wife work from home has really got me out and about, as both of us being home all the time leads to danger...) and picked up a few things:

The box of radio parts was $5, the two socket boxes (the Craftsman holds a Dunlap ignition set, a (H) bar and P&C mini wrench and the other is a Thorsen with both inside and end decals) along with this:

Long C blowtorch were from an estate sale and cost $25. The sockets and drill index cost $3 at another sale. The index is cool as it has wood bit holders inside. I had never seen one with a decal before, so I had to have it.
BW what was the issue with the Columbian?
It's a Utica M-3. The leather washers could use some tlc but otherwise its in great shape.
Nothing really. Just wasn't what I was looking for and I didn't think would sell as well. No swivel and I think the jaws were fixed too. It was a hefty Vise with 4.5" Jaw and when I called back I was told it sold a couple hours after I was there. Fair price $40. Is that a you **** price I missed out on? If I didn't already own a couple USA 4" vises I would have bought it. Estate company said they would sell it to me for $20 if it was still there day 2 and that's the chance I was willing to take.
I am always looking for power/gas/oil company locks
Yeah its not a bad price if you are in need of a vise, but I would probably have left it also for the shot at half off.
.
Davefr, you ****. That lathe was $206.95 in the 1964 catalog (p30) - $1721 in today’s dollars! You paid something like $7.22 in 1964 dollars. On our way home from sailing I spotted an estate sale sign really close to home that somehow we missed in the ads. It was a professional but one we haven't seen before. This is what I spotted and fortunately I was one the right side of the table while other guys were coming around the bend. I had to look at the price tag twice but it was $60 so I grabbed it. I think the sellers thought is was a small wood lathe vs metal lathe. (the previous owner turned wood pen blanks with it).
After I brought it home I wondered if there was more to it like a motor, etc. So I went back to the sale and found an X,Y table, what I think is the correct motor and some kind of pulley bracket. All three for another $55.
I also picked up the early style Workmate for $8.

Wrap the thing in rubber before going to town with vice/pliers. Failing that, NOS tailcaps are only about $3 off eBay, so I wouldn't worry too much about buggering it up.Yea I hope not, it was just a dollar but would like to use it.
There just isn't much to grip onto on the battery cap. Don't want to ****** it up using a vice and pliers.

Is that what Mega Maid uses to go from **** to blow?Picked up this inflater/deflator from a garage sale yesterday. I can’t tell who makes it but the lady said her husband used to be a dealer for Matco. Anybody seen one of these before? It has an internal piece of plastic and, if you use it one way, it will help inflate things. Flip the plastic around and it will cause a vacuum and deflate stuff.

Usually those are marked on the toe. If nothing obvious try a low angled light, might help.
I am pretty sure it’s not a Stanley, but that’s as far as I can go right now. Theirs usually had a patterned lever cap.
