Nice Cabinet Joe. looks like one of those dental cabinets. Is that a baby vise? What is the jaw width, 2 inches?

Sorry, 4" Yost vise. Really pristine.

Here's other junk I bought this week. 7" Parker vise ($100), custom Diehl fan (pd too much), cast iron table legs (10), OC White Cieling light (10), Wilton 930 1946 vintage (125), OC White base (check out the patent dates ), 4" Athol vise (60). Not pictured is a working 40 gallon Speedaire compressor that I got for 80 but had to spend $50 to make perfect.

It has been a very good week.

Blue Frog:

That furniture repair box with contents is great and glad it "found" you. BTW, liked that old roofing nail puller as well.

Joe.Striper:

Agree with everyone else, that the vintage NCR cabinet is a great find!!!

beatcad:

The Columbian Vise Co Anvil is unusual and also a great find.

Thanks guys for sharing info/pics, as keeps us all motivated.

After a long drought I finally found some decent yard sale finds yesterday. I hit these at the end of the day after work and I wish I had been there first thing in the morning because at both places the guy selling said he had a lot of stuff that was snapped up early.

The first place was mostly old junky furniture but there was a coffee can of wrenches without a price tag and he let me have the bunch for $4. Its a real mish mash with S-K, Popular Mechanics, Fuller, Dunlap, Gedore, PowerKraft, PowerMaster, Industro and a couple of indeterminate origin but I figure for 4 bucks what the heck.

ra91m0.jpg

The second place would have been awesome if I had been there earlier and I don't want to even know what I missed but I picked up this working fan for my shop (LAU "niteair" I need to do some reasearch on it) and a Kennedy 1018 cantilever tool box for $5 each.

I am thinking of hitting the outside of the box with some new paint and using it for my "electrics" box.

Another 2 stops this morning. Once again, the first stop was a total waste of time in the wrong direction. The second stop wasn't too bad (around the corner from my house), I wonder what I missed. I ended up with -

a B&D table top Workmate(ish) stand. (composite top, composite base) $10
a 50'(?) sewer snake (you never need one, until the sh!+ hits the ......... well you get the idea) $5

Paid $10 for all this.

Some nice Stanley screwdrivers
Craftsman pliers, saw, and drill bits.
Athol measuring tape
Small Oxwall wrenches
1 Williams wrench and the other wrenches are unknown.
Wooden screwdrivers.
wooden ratcheting screwdriver
Nail puller
2 monkey wrenches
Eklind folding Allen key set
All American hex key set. Might be missing 1 or 2.
These 2 really cool brass screwdrivers that unscrew and have smaller screwdrivers inside.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437835488.871860.jpg

Then I bought a bunch of these old Kennedy assassination newspapers for $10. 2 boxes full. Probably worth some cash.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1437835514.297346.jpg

Approximately 150 craftsman sockets, 8 craftsman wrenches, 1 proto adjustable, and an oil can all for $40.

I'd keep it if I were you. I wasn't really looking for a box like that but I couldn't pass it up for the price and its definitely cool IMO. I haven't done any research on it but it seems like it would be from the 1950s.

So my dad tells me he went to an estate sale down the street from my house yesterday while I was on vacation and missed and there was an old workbench/toolbox and vise. I went first thing today but I missed it all. Ahhhhh. Oh well.

Not a whole lot today. Found a mint condition toddler bike with training wheels for my daughter for $10. Also found this brand new Ridgid Fuego jig saw for $20. Not a scratch on it.

Some greate finds guys! Slow day for me...

Dodge, I'd keep your Dad's box. even if you don't see any value now, later you probably will and any kids may too. My daughter insisted on keeping a couple of pieces from my dad's place I'd have tossed, and SWMBO sided with her, so they came home... :willy_nil If I'd had ANY memories of them - different story... :dunno:

9 planned stops, and way too many stories like "Tools? not yet, I'm still sorting those out..." - So WHY did they list "tools"?

Mini Simon for a buck, and a free SandVik 10' mini tape measure from the first stop (and one of the "I'm still bringing the tools out... gang; it was an early stop so I waited... for junk...). The Deep socket is a Long C Craftsman 7/8, and the only thing to come out of the most promising place; Who opened late and had no effing clue how to setup nor what half the stuff was or was worth...

attachment.php

As for this Safety Can, it was $4, and is a Protectoseal out of Chicago. I'm pretty sure its a 1/2 gallon. I can't tell quite what was in it. Not gas or I think a petroleum product. It almost smells like car wax? Green tinge on the screen.

What's with the grenade 3Bay?

Well, it's for coating lock mechanisms I believe. I was thinking Jeff Moss would know something about it. Rather than graphite paste, you squeeze it and it lets out a plume of graphite powder from the "wick", actually a tiny copper? tube. Never seen one before.

Hahaha! I thought that was a real fuse, and would be used to make an area with a big graphite spot! (and I'll bet I'm not the only one!)

Second and last weekend of my Southern Fried Picking Adventure. I'm in Montgomery, Alabama for two weeks of training and am passing the weekends looking for old tools and bargains.

This weekend there was nothing going on in Montgomery that I could find, so I headed up I-65 to the Birmingham suburbs. I rolled through two yard sales that started at 7 AM with no luck. "The tools all sold yesterday." Thanks. One had a lonely Delta saw table in the garage, but it's kinda hard to get one of those into a airline checked bag. :bounce:

The main show was a country estate sale that said "TOOLS, TOOLS, AND MORE TOOLS!" in the C-list ad. The old guy had been in the surveying and general contracting trade and had been in the same property since the late '60s. He had a huge open shed out back piled with whatever he brought back from jobs - both materials and tools would be in the same bucket. I began to wonder if he just bought more tools for every job!

For $20, I filled a 5-gallon bucket with the following:
2 crusty 11R Petersen ViceGrips
1 crusty 11SP Petersen ViceGrips
1 Craftsman-made vicegrips (don't have one of these in my tool collection!)
73157995537d971a93fff5cea7a9eb4f.jpg

1 Diamalloy HL116P "Groove-Joint" pliers, 16 inches long
1 Klein 63035 wire cutter, 17 inches long (for those really, really big cables)

a7338a331d89747f9d694c5f9004db3d.jpg

1 J.H Williamson S-50 1/2" female-drive ratchet (frozen up, won't ratchet) - this puppy may be from the 1930s!!
1 Wilton #404 forged steel C-clamp
1e1321015dce45d76d476545fc5b81d8.jpg

1 Klein #3238 1/2" spud ratchet (seems I'm on a spud run lately)
1 11" long lineman's pliers, too crusty to see a maker's mark
1 end cutter, no maker's mark, peculiar jaw - looks like it was made to nip something flush to a surface and in a corner :headscrat
1 needle nose pliers, too crusty to see a maker's mark

075d5e4135fb208b485f36f78bc93d6a.jpg

1 USA-made torpedo level, missing spirits from one of three tubes
1 11/16 - 3/4 S-K Wayne DOE (I was excited to add this to my growing SK collection until I saw the "hanging hole" drilled in one end :headshake )
ce9779cf1be5e1650c1c178c8c28f495.jpg

1 Klein 600-4 screwdriver
1 Craftsman 1/4" socket driver -H- w/ a -V- 1/4" socket & flatblade bit
1 Craftsman 1/4" x 6" extension -G- with a 10MM MAC socket
1 Thorsen #53 1/2" x 4" extension
1 P-F 1/2" x 4" extension (Taiwan-made, didn't realize 'til I got it home)
2 Craftsman 1/4" deep sockets, 1/4" & 3/16", -EE-
346df98227b006876ec296a0ac4c984e.jpg

1 S-K 3/8" x 7/16" flare wrench
1 Snap-On 3/8" x 7/16" flare wrench
1 Snap-On 11MM wrench
2 Craftsman combo wrenches, 1/2" & 7/16"

3 Wilcox-Crittendon 2 1/2" vintage galvanized pulley blocks (WC went out of manuf in the '60s - they made a lot of stuff for boats and ships)

1 no-name battery cleaner (note to self - always open/unscrew/look at all parts of a tool before putting it in your pile - D'oh!)

1 Eagle 4" diam oiling can with a 15" nozzle (it had still had the cool Eagle screen printed logo under the grime and dirt...until I tried to wash off the grime and dirt - D'oh! part 2)
1 Lufkin 12" tape measure

I left a lot of cool stuff that was just too heavy to bring back in checked baggage, like this big Craftsman vise (!), an anvil, a big box of NIB foot-long hammer drill bits, heavy duty load securing shackles, etc etc.

The next stop was another family-run estate sale. I passed on a Proto roller chest with a "Selling all together - $50" label. Sigh. I did find a 12-volt power supply for $5 that I will use to power an electrolysis bath I've been wanting to build. This one looks pretty heavy duty - 15 amps output! :shocking::shocking:

The next estate sale stop was even cheaper - $1 for my picks. Also not much here, but I found the old guy's workbench and this case of Wizard-brand metric sockets. I found the ratchet in another tool box (thank goodness!) but could not find the other missing sockets. I may part this one out.
1 Lufkin 6-ft tape measure w/ Buick Electro-Cruise advertising (My favorite pick of the weekend!)
1 Lisle reversing snap ring pliers (much better design than what I have in my tool box - this is a keeper!

The last stop I had seen on-line but forgot about. As I was driving to stop #3 above, I saw the company sign and ducked in. Man, was it swamped with people!! The company had two cops directing traffic, and there must have been at least 50 cars lined up along the road. The house was full of exquisite things - the garage not so much. This neat pedal car was in there, but fortunately I don't have that particular collecting bug.

Here's what I took away for a ten spot:
1 GE mechanical time switch
1 brass wire brush
1 headlamp, with batteries

Now, the next challenge: how to pack all this into my luggage for a trip through the airline baggage system. I brought a big duffle bag for this eventuality, but I didn't think about packing material. I think I'll wrap them in newspaper and then just tape every together and surrounding it with dirty laundry. The stuff that can get crushed/damaged I'll probably pack separate from the steel tools.

Cheers, gents!

got an old 10" Delta table saw today, serial #6-7272. I am not sure of the age or even a model number on this one. I though it was newer because of the good condition but the motor makes me think much older. I has a new 1hp Sears motor and all new wiring and switch. But the best part is I got the old original motor with it and it still works perfectly. Seller said he replaced it with the new one because the old one was too loud and bothered the neighbors. No one will believe me but I got it all for $20 at an estate liquidation. Had to load it by myself and it was much heavier than it looked!

Picked these up at a warehouse sale at the local army surplus store.

The wrench has not seen the light day in over 50 years. Found a label on the crate that dated 1953. Same with the speeder wrench. All told 14.92 dollars and that included a 50 cal. Ammo can.
