Bomber - I think it might be cheaper (baggage fees) to take all of that to the UPS store or Kinkos/Fed Ex and have it all shipped home.

Does the blade stay fixed and the whole table moves up/down/tilts?

If so...:scared:. Still, a nice old piece, and at a ****-worthy price with two motors thrown in.

Yes the table moves with hand cranks and worm gears. made some cuts with it today for a bathroom addition im doing at home. its very accurate, ill never have to buy a new one for what im using it for.

Its missing the dial indicator for depth of cut. and the blade guard. the blade guard was an optional accessory based off a sales brochure i found, so it may have never had one.

USPS flat rate for everything that will fit... :3gears:

I had the same worry, gents. I just "checked" the airline website and my "checked" bags are free (whew!).

I did find a 12-volt power supply for $5 that I will use to power an electrolysis bath I've been wanting to build. This one looks pretty heavy duty - 15 amps output! :shocking::shocking:

I have read the GJ "Everything you ever wanted to know about electrolysis" string but...
For those of you who have electrolysis set-ups, I just want to confirm that I should not put the Vise Grips in the bath, even though they have almost no trace of chrome plating showing, right?

Sorry to hijack the GS string (if ever so briefly).

If there is any chrome left, it's better to use evaporust or vinegar instead of electrolysis.

yeah, but good deal with the 2 motors, and those are nice miter gages, l gave $20.00 for one with missing fence and no motor.
kept the miter gage for my Uni, (roughly period correct) and used the big ball crank for my Delta band saw (looked period correct) will sell faucet knobs and probably scrap the rest, would have set it up for small stuff, but lack of space here.
here is the bandsaw blade tension crank.

Another great day. Picked up this fabulous EARLY National cash register cabinet, Yost 204 vise, a box of air compressor fittings, meral letter punches and 3 snap ring pliers. $120

I recognize that base from an old register my son and I got working for a guy. There used to be an ornate NCR cash register bolted to the top and a mechanism that allowed one of the drawers at a time to open (that's the square cutout where it went), so that several sales clerks could operate out of one register. Way ahead of its time back then. A spectacular small parts bin now. Nice find!

After 3 years of kicking around and drooling at these threads I finally have something to contribute.

Was at the grocery store this morning and figured before I head home I would check the Kijiji garage sales if anything was interesting. Saw one with a bunch of pictures of tools and a nice 3 drawer Beach portable box. Figured I'd give it a check.

The box turned out to be in near mint shape and filled with your usual junk. He wanted 30$ for it. Looked around and he had some other nice stuff, ended up with this stuff for 44.50$CDN (that's like 5$US right?) when he asked 60$. Not a great haul like most of you have but decent enough.

The box:

Pretty good shape, just needs a light cleaning.

Stuff I saved from the box after throwing out the junk:

1 Stanley flat head USA screwdriver
2 VACO stubbies made in USA
3 Japan and 1 Korea files
1 set of Bondhus USA allen keys
4 Japan punches
2 Olfa exacto knives with extra blades
2 Norton Canada honing stones
8 new Hakansson Sweden hacksaw blades
1 set of Torx keys, no ID
1 Metka Sweden handle (File handle? Help someone... :) )

And the stuff I added:

1 Crescent USA 10-in adjustable
9 piece Challenger py Proto Canada SAE Combo's 1/4 thru 3/4
1 Fuller #1 Robertson, that for some reason I tought I didn't have but I have 2 already, 3 now I guess hah.
1 Gray Canada T57 3/8 Ratchet

He had some other decent stuff I passed on, few other Fuller drivers I knew I had (1 I don't, but oh well), pair of Channellock 430's (just bought a new one last week) and some other wrenches in the big pile I got the Challengers from including an older Snap On DBE that I likely should have grabbed, but oh well.

He also had an older Westward 6" bench grinder for 40$, but it didn't have eye guards or anything so I left it there.

Bomber - I was jonesing to PM you with another sale this weekend (not quite as good as the others), but I knew you were away. One of these days I'm going to have to trade phone numbers with you so we can cut out the middleman. It looks like you've been doing fine without my help anyway.

I'll be posting my finds later, but for now I'll only say that I spent more than a Benny (which is unusual for me).

50 lbs per. I should be fine - I didn't buy the anvil .

Years ago I was out in AZ and picked up a bunch of desert rose and some other cool rocks. I packed them carefully in a cardboard box and put them in my carry on bag, it put me pretty close to the weight limit and I got some weird looks from the TSA folks but they didn't hassle me about the rocks. I think I did get some grief for having a small bottle of shampoo in my bag on that trip though. Aah, security theater, so entertaining!

Cool - looking fwd to hearing/seeing the details! One thing about picking down here - it makes you appreciate what a target rich environment we have around Boston.

I'll still be on the road through this weekend, but back in town the next one in time for a big sale up in Tyngsboro (you're probably already tracking it).

That seems a decent size. How big, and what was the purchase price (if you don't mind sharing)?

It's 4 quart. Perfect for carburetors and the wife's jewelry.

He wanted $75. Got it for $50.

It's all stainless steel and has a tray for parts.

That one is bit too far outside of my traveling leash so I didn't look at it. You'll have to let me know how it was. I'll be heading to Maine next weekend for a week of sleep, drink, and no responsibilities. Yes, those priorities are in order (it's the only time away I get all year). :lol_hitti

Scored a bit of stuff at this weekend's estate sales

Estate sale 1
Huot drill bit chest completely stuffed of drill bits for $15. This guy liked to spray paint everything so some time will be spent removing some of his grosser effects.

Craftsman 26" 2 drawer middle tool chest ($20), which fits in nicely under the old HF top chest.

Craftsman 26" 5 drawer full depth top chest ($40). Still cleaning the missing drawer.

Misc random tools

Estate Sale 2
Got all of this for $50
Kennedy machinist tool chest with tools including some large taps (and a nice sized black widow).

Craftsman tool box and random tools. Really like the sheet metal punch kit and the micrometer.

As mentioned earlier, I went to an estate sale this morning. At the freakin' crack of dawn.
The sale was at 9am, the numbers were handed out at 7am, I got there at 6am, I left the house at 5:20am, and I had to wake up at 5am. I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON ! :thefinger

So, why did I torture myself like that ? Because I saw an air compressor in the ad that looked like it was an upgrade to the 1.5hp 12gallon portable that I have been suffering with in my shop for 25yrs. It's not that my old compressor is bad, it just can't keep up with the air tools I want to use now. I camped out so that I would have a chance to look it over and buy it before someone else.

After all that, I still ended up with #9. :willy_nil

Someone else got to the basement while I was in the garage and grabbed a 50's Cman 8" table saw with an original 1hp motor for $35. I would have paid that much and more just for the motor.

Before I get to the compressor, here is the other stuff I got -

Pic 1 & 2 - $20
8 - Williams Supperrench combo wrenches (only 2 were duplicates for my set)
_____1158_____1/4"
_____1159_____5/16"
_____1159A____11/32"
_____1162_____1/2"
_____1163_____9/16"
_____1164_____5/8"
_____1165_____11/16"
_____1166_____3/4"
K-D #485K 1" gasket scraper
10 - Craftsman 3/8dr crowsfeet (pre-1974 -V-)
_____3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 11/16", 11/16" (duplicate), 13/16, 7/8", 1"
Walworth Stillson 36" pipe wrench (only need the 48" to complete the set)

Pic 3 & 4 - $25
Then, in the corner of the garage, on a ratty MBC roller there was this top box. When I went back to the sale with my trailer at 11am (to p/u the compressor) it was still there, so I took pity on it and took it home even though I have no room for it. I still don't know what it is. I'm thinking MBC, but has a SnapOnish look to it. :dunno:

I posted more pictures of it in the Vintage Toolbox thread here -
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5017885#post5017885

Pics 5, 6, 7 - $125
And now the item that caused me to lose sleep this morning.

A 1984 Speedair model #3Z421D 2hp 115v/230v air compressor. (dolly not included)
I'm not sure how big the tank is. The tag with the overall specs is missing. I think it's a 30gal, but it could be smaller. The tank is roughly 16"dia x 36". I need to confirm that it's wired for 230v and then rewire a spot for it in my box.

There was another guy 10 numbers behind me that kept trying to cut ahead in the line that was after the compressor as well. After paying for the compressor, the guy who runs the sale came over with a pile of hoses and said -
"The guy who was cutting the line tried to buy your hoses."
I said "The hoses are included in the price ?"
He says "Yes" and gives me a wink.

So, I ended up with 2 50' hoses and a 25' hose (all with fittings) for free. :D

Once I get this up and running and sell my old compressor (and maybe a hose or two) I should be ahead on the deal. :bounce:
Sometimes it pays to be standing right in front of the *******.

EDIT -
I was able to get a manual from Grainger, but it's only for the compressor, not the motor. I'll have to try again for paperwork on just the motor. The Compressor is a 30gal that should give 6.2cfm @ 100psi.

If anyone needs the manual for Speedaire models 3Z420D thru 3Z425D, PM me and I'll email it to you.

I went to that sale today late. In my own town and I never saw the posters for it:willy_nil. Ended up getting a 12ton craftsman professional bottle jack and a 1989 Snap on Angle wrench set missing the 3/8". Paid $35 for all. I wish I was there on Saturday morning as it looked like a honey hole:mad:. Next weekend I might dedicate a day to yard saling if my Lincoln SA200 isn't running.

jakemac >> Nice haul for under $200. Was the sale in Saugus (Gibbs on the SO box)? I used to live there.
