I had another packed weekend working week 4 of my entire house remodel, but I was able to steal away and go to a sale on Saturday morning that was labeled as " 50 years of tools and junk". How could I pass that up?

Photo20Jul20182042050202520PM_zpscnzoktev.jpg

Walked away with these items:
36" carpenters square with tons of awesome patina and crystal clear etchings
2 old locks (accidentally started collecting these with my 7 yo son)
awl, rasps and files
Stanley bullet level
small hack saw
$10 total

I went back on Sunday morning and scavenged some more and came away a happy camper.

Photo20Jul202020122037205420PM_zpski1zxyum.jpg

Socket wrenches: 2 Plvmb, Blackhawk, Wright
Sargent & Greenleaf combination lock (no combo unfortunately)
Diston Midget Hole Punch tool
Apex Morrill Saw Tooth setting tool
Montgomery Ward cobblers hammer head
Veeder Root 1915 Counter
Keuffel & Esser Transit Base (No level or tripod)

This was a fun haul because of the variety. Bought most of it because it was so cheap and antique tools are just plain cool.

$13 for all.

One of the finds from Friday's yard sales was a Stanley Bedrock 608 with corrugated bottom.

It definitely was rusty when I got it, but been working on getting it cleaned and functioning again.

It is 3 or 4 inches longer than my Stanley Bailey #7, along with it also being wider.

1950's. I think it was made by Moore Drop Forge.

Thanks guys, l knew it was on older one.
Don't see the older ones too often anymore.
I think all the GJ guys have them stashed away..............LOL
Seems to be nice and tight, no slop, need to open it up and lube it a little.
I thought it was a good price.
Good price on the stanley 7 too.
Nice find on the bed rock.

Saturday's Estate Sale Picks

My anti-virus software finally let me upload pictures to Photo-bucket, so here are pics of my picks. I keep finding good stuff so I keep going back. This is for Saturday only.
1. NOS Tap & Die Set
2. Couple of cut-off wrenches - Tru Test and Snap On
3. Push to Set punch
4. Craftsman push drill made by Stanley - all bits present
5. Multi-tool handle with a head that pivots - handy
6. Genaral awl
7. Stanley Yankee offset screwdriver
8. Large Starrett calipers - extra nice
9. Small OIl Can - I can't pass these up

10. Push drill by Millers Falls - "Buck Rogers" style - first of this style I've seen. Several bits in the handle, but I have extra bits to fit this drill.

11. Old Plane of questionable value

12. Small tin toolbox, Hex socket set, and a Plumb ball peen hammer head

13. Large file and rasp, and an aluminum framing square by Millers Falls.

Had a lot of fun Saturday!

I've had a few of those sales lately. I have a love/hate relationship with sales like that. I love that I keep finding little treasures hidden at the bottom of endless piles. I hate what they do to my wallet. Sales like that ruin regular sales that come afterwards. It's like a junkie looking for the next high and being disappointed that their morning coffee just won't do it for them anymore.

Wrench guy, you are right. Shortly after I posted, I realized there was no way it was 36", but work duties kept me from editing. It is a nichols 3-R 24"-16" with a patent date of 1901.

It's about the size of a Stanley/Bailey #4. It doesn't appear to have much value based on what I've found thus far. The blade is much thinner than that of a Stanley/Bailey.
The value is not in money. That is a nice size and tuned up will give excellent results. I also happen to think the value will be higher than 1st thought. I had onevvery similar to that and it sold for more than the Stanley I had in the same sale. Just chance? Maybe but still

i don't have that model, has it been cut to 12"-16"? most squares that old were 18". if it hasn't it won't have any numbers at the end of blade, if it has it'll only have a single digit there.

Been pretty busy lately, haven't had time to post much of the stuff I've bought the past couple of weeks. Picked these up- $2 for the ratchet, still had the price tag on it, $19.99, and a buck for the Hex-a-matic. The ratchet is actually NOS, the lady selling used to own a Service Star hardware store back in the day.

Wrenchguy, I will have to check in a few days, as I am flying to Las Vegas for the annual woodworking convention, AWFS. If it was cut short, the owner did a great job, as it is very clean and square.

Jawoodworking

i believe 18" were shear cut by the factory as needed, or someone using a shear. 18" blades came outa style as platform framing became more in use using 16" centers.

Vulcan stubby bit screwdriver
Snap On screwdriver ,brake spring socket, wobble extension, hose clamp pliers
Cornwell 1/2" ratchet
Vulcan/Williams dual marked stubby metric combo wrenches- missing a couple for the set
Snap On 3/4 socket set box

about 50 dollars

#1 is a vulcanizing clamp, for Hot patches on tires missing the piece that goes on the screw. - EDIT, No not missing; those are on the chains...

#2 is a motor adjusting place so you can adjust belt tension (think multiple belts and probably 3 ph)

#3 A WAG, but some sort of press/roller maybe for a laminating process? Thinking like possibly wood veneers in the dark ages of the last century?

Thanks for the ID.
#1 - you are right, just found identical item on ebay for sale http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-vintage-old-car-vulcanizing-dual-size-tube-repair-clamp-/261969314790?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cfe9683e6 (no way it will sell for the asking price...)

#2 - I was guessing it was for a planer sharpener assembly, but belt tensioner makes more sense.

#3 - I don't think it is for laminating - motion just doesn't make sense for that and it takes a few turns of crank to get it to move full motion.

Not sure about the other 2.

Can anyone tell me what these wrenches are used for? The three on the left are marked "water pump"(2 Williams, 1 Plvmb) and the two on the right are marked "Black Hawk RT 1300".

2 sales in different directions this morning. I picked the wrong one to go to first.
I was at the first sale as they opened. Very little of the tools in the pictures from the ad were there.
It was a waste of time and gas.

The second sale would have been much better, but I got there 2-1/2 hours late because of the first sale and an errand that I had to run for my grandparents. Just scraps left (I'm not going to talk about the 1976 toolbox I left behind. It's too painful. My shop is saturated with rollers right now).

I ended up paying $15 for this lot.

VIM #79-P Hollow Punch Set (not for metal) (there may be some pieces missing)
Imperial Tubing Tool Kit (flair pins only)
Craftsman #3 Tappet wrench (-V-)
Stanley countersink bit (I don't know how this ended up in my bag :headscrat)
Williams DOE Ignition wrenches
_____ 1106 ____ 13/64 - 7/32
_____ 1107 ____ 15/64 - 1/4
_____ 1108 ____ 9/32 - 11/32
Craftsman shorty DBE 3/8 - 7/16 (-V-)
unknown DOE (REALLY small)
Kastar thickness gauge

Picked a picker today. Went to a yard sale that turned out to be one of my biggest tool buying competitors at estate sales. Usually we have our hands in the same box! :lol_hitti
Anyway, his prices were fair as he needs more room for a Snap On box he just bought! Another :lol_hitti

I cleaned him out of ratchets. I'm sure he'll replenish by next week.

$63 for the ratchets.

I made it to three estate sales today.

First, I picked up a scale (with box), an expansion brace bit, a 4" Proto adjustable wrench and a small oil can (still has a Walgreens sticker on the bottom) - $6.00.

Second was rather sparse as I only found three items: a New England roofing tool (unusual to find such a tool in the midwest) and two Craftsman (USA) adjustable hex wrenches - $11.00 total.

On the third sale, I found this neat little tool box made from 3/8" plywood and covered with walnut veneer, and having brass hardware. It looks rough now, but will cleanup nicely, especially with what it has inside.

Opening the door reveals two small drawers and a storage shelf and an electrical tool.

The drawers come completely out of the case - note the highquality drawwer pulls -:)

And when the lid to the drawer is opened, we see what type of individual used this toolbox. That's all hard wax of various colors, used by a furniture repairman.

And the other drawer.

These tools were on top of the drawer when the door was opened.

And here's the electrical item - obviously a heated for heating the tools and softening the wax and applying the softened wax to furniture for repair. I saw a person do some repairs, such as I've described, about 50 years ago. It must be a diminishing trade.

A final item in the box was a small tin with some bar wax that was probably used as a toner for blending the repair with other finishes on the furniture.

Cost of the box - $22.00.

Had a good day, and I'm happy to find the furniture repair toolbox.

Great scores guys!! BlueFrog, love the box and yes it's a diminishing trade, why pay a guy as much to repair your furniture as you paid to buy it new from Walmart...not my style but today's disposable society dictates it for sure...

What's with the grenade 3Bay?

i even asked Mrs beat if we had one in the house. no dice.
guess i aught to get one.

i did go to my tool box and grabbed my 3lb mallet and had the mallet in one hand and the anvil in the other. the anvil is easily twice the weight of the mallet.

i know this isnt precise and a very flawed way to gauge weight, but it's all i got.

i will say it's easily 6 to 9 lbs.

haha! my next door neighbor just came by and i asked if he had a scale.
it is 8lbs. actually he said it was 8.4lbs.
