The car in the pic is my Lotus Super 7 replica (documented build link). Built 11 years ago to the tune of $5700CDN (prolly $4000US at the time). It was built from a book of plans and a couple hundred feet of steel.

Updates....

Last fall I finished (enough to be road-worthy) my V8 Pontiac Firefly, which was a blast until the 170hp 305 V8 went south this May. I built a mild 350 V8 (ported heads, Lunati cam, big-block throttle body) which I just got back on the road this July.

I've been building my Compressor Shed, and I kit you not, it is SO NICE to have the compressor out of the shop.

I ran 220V through 6/3 wire from the breaker into the shed, into a sub-panel. From there, I took 110V back into the shop, to a switch by the man door (I had this already wired before I drywalled), and to a light switch and wall socket in the shed.

The switch came back and split off to run a bathroom fan (vent near the floor to let make up air in), an outlet (for the auto tank drain), and a 220V Contactor to disconnect the compressor. This way I can hit the wall switch on the way out, and the compressor is off, the fan is off, and the blower-off-inator is off.

Shed is insulated on all 6 sides for sound, but I screwed up on the door, making it out of 2x4's and PT plywood, not thinking that your typical door knob is not designed for a 4.5" thick door. Took me the better part of the day cutting/welding/lengthening the guts of the door knob to make it work. But it works!

I just got caught up on the happening with your GRM thread on Firefly, it is a pretty cool piece of kit and a lot of effort went into getting it to run. Keep us updated on the truck please.

I'd -like- to keep the patina, but I can't stand the rust. If it was patina and rust-free, I'd totally Comet Wash it, and clear-coat it. But it's not at all rust free (though it's better than most you can find up here).

Since I want to drive it (as a daily, rain/snow/shine, from here on into retirement), I plan to blast everything, and do it proper with epoxy primers and powdercoating and whatnot. Make it last, and drive it. It's only a truck.

But thanks, eh?!

Got the fence put mostly back together. Three sections rebuilt. Need to buy two more boards.

The brown post is new - I had to dig the broken/rotter stub out of the 3.5" square in the concrete using a 6 foot wrecking bar, a 3.5" holesaw on a Makita Wrist-Breaker, and a shop vac. Shop vac for the win.

Gotta change my avatar picture thingie to something a bit more finished.

A while back I paved the right side of the driveway to have a better access past the house garage. I had been driving over on the dirt for quite some time to pack it all down, and figure out where the asphalt needed to be, then paved it earlier this year.

Today I widened the section beside the house garage. Far right was mostly dirt and some crappy chunks of concrete closest to the concrete, the left side sloped into the house causing some leakage through the bottom of the garage wall. I dug it out and paved both sides today.

Trying to get the shop more organized and tidier (hahahahahahaha, yeah).

Princess Auto had a sale on 25' retractable hose reels at $60 CDN, so I bought two. They won't reach all the way across the shop, but I have a 50' one in the house garage that I'm going to bring over.

I merely cut the leg where I wanted the fitting to be, and flipped the leg over so the fitting was at the top instead of the bottom.

Presto! No more hoses tangled up and cluttering the floor.

The chopper bike was one in a series of courses I took to get up the next step on the salary grid. This one was a self-directed course, where I put together a booklet for students to design and build their own chopper bike (me being a shop teacher and all).

If does have a functional Springer front end, and suicide shifter.

Two questions, please:

What is the relevance of the "1066 BC" garage / thread name? (The Battle of Hastings was in 1066 AD.)

Now that you have been in / working in your garage for a while, what are the three things you would have done differently in planning / building / organizing it? (No fair answering "I would have built a larger garage" -- everyone says that.)

What the three things do you like the best / most about it?

1066sqft, British Columbia.

Only it turned out to be 1065 once I finalized my design.

I was legally allowed to build up to 1076sqft, but I could not make that work without making a wall 33' 2-3/4" or something, and I decided it wasn't worth it. It is, essentially, the biggest I am legally allowed to build.

I love everything about the shop. It is the best layout and arrangement for where I wanted it. I especially love the colour - it's soothing; it's my creative world. I totally get lost in my world out there.

Wish I had put two power outlets in the ceiling for drop cords in the vehicle bay area. I have one in the fabrication area and wish I had more.

That's it.

I was into the Firefly for $4000CDN once I had tires, LSD and a freshened mild 350 in there. It took eight years to build it, and two years sorting it. I have a philosophy of cars not costing me more than $1000/per year. By that philosophy, this car owed me nothing. And owed me nothing six years ago. Thus, I did ok at the auction. It went for $6000CDN.

Advantage me: build it cheap, and if it sells cheap you still win.

Advantage buyer: if it can be bought cheap, you win.
