interesting results.... Did you measure other wrenches too ?
I am the last person here to pitch Snap-on, but I'm going to here. I own a total of one Snap-on tool - a 1/4x5/16 flare nut wrench, which as nice as it was, was cheaper brand new on eBay than the Craftsman.
First, as mentioned... the thin wrenches are not helping to distribute the force.
Second, the hardness is definitely an issue which is why tools which would otherwise hold up fine are getting their asses kicked. I think this may be a legitimate boon for not only the high quality steel Snap-on uses (not that the Euro variants do not) and being thicker, but also the flank drive plus setup which I think will have an advantage in these situations. There are lots of competitors in the US, I am surprised though that not a wrench you picked up has anything other than a "flat" profile to it.
Suggestions about making the bolt weaker are rather frightening. Not only is there the real danger of a piece of tooling coming flying off (bad), but the bigger risk is now instead of rounding off the wrench, you round off the bolt... and it does NOT look like that would leave you many options for easy removal. Worst case scenario now - you have to replace the wrench once and a while.![]()

As i mentioned few post back, is very difficult to find US made tools in Greece. The only US wrench we use is this Williams Vulcan
About flank drive plus, is something i want to try out in the future. Now i stick to the common wrenches for a full inspection![]()
Absolutely I understand... I am just suggesting it may be worth the hassle of getting one to tryIf you need it, there are many people here who would buy one (including myself) and ship it to you at cost.
Looks like the wrench is US $32 new... that is why I don't own Snap-on, not because they're not the best, but because I can buy a whole SET of decent wrenches for $32![]()
Who knows? Maybe. Mmmm from the pic looks a bit slippery. I mean less contact surface with the screw's head, less torque. Is this wrench actually works?
How about a GearWrench surface drive? $4.00 shipped in the US... not sure the most economical way to get it to Greece though.
I'm curious how the surface drive performs, though I don't think the GW steel is anywhere near where Snap-on is.
The purpose of most of these drives is to relocate the stresses from the edges of the fastener to the flat "faces"... so I think the benefit with that hard bolt is that it would move the forces from the sharp ends.

maybe you can get ahold of a Stahlwille "soft grip" wrench..? maybe the jaw design will work better ?
Unfortunately i sold the Wera Joker set i had![]()
oooooooopstime to buy another set
or just the 13mm wrench
![]()
quick, someone send this thread to a snap-on rep and some other high end tool companies and see how many of them will toss a 13mm his way to test out where all others have failed!

Βe patience, i will find a Snap-on wrench here in Greece or in another part of the Old World with acceptable shipping. In the end I will go to the gate of U.S. base in Crete to ask a wrench from the guard. Even better I can go to the American Embassy located a 10 minute walk from my house and tell them: "Why Snap-On has no representative in Greece? Shame!"![]()

No, not yet. Facom.... too shiny to destroyed
But i would like to measure its hardness, especially compared with an old Facom made in France.

Cosmik binturong find out where Monte lives, steal all his 13 mm wrenches and mail them to me!!Miskin, got an almost new Facom 440 from same friend for you if you still do want to test it for hardness + some real world hard bolt testin'!
Monte, if i remember correctly, you do already have one of those in your collection so you won't mind, eh?![]()

Not yet, i plan to check a 600N 14mm and a 450 10x11.Miskin... did you check the Hazet again? I'm curious why the HRC is low.

i would never steal Monte's 13mm wrenches: too many of them and i'll break my back doing so!![]()

lol yeah i´ll watch outpssst! Monte, you should do a "my growing collection of 13mm combo wrenches from around the world" thread just so we can see them all!(beware of that guy lurking all day in your alley with an Okuma t-shirt, a big bag and a lust for 13mm wrenches!)
