I put up this Gladiator cabinet, and drilled a hole in the bottom so I could have a few outlets and USB jacks for charging bike stuff and lights. But I might take it down and do something else with the space.

I installed a hose reel on the ceiling, HF Black Friday special.

The Garage Gator is back in action. This was tricky to get lined up with the joists since they run in different directions on the different sides of the garage. Just one bike in it at the moment, but it holds several. The wooden planks level the bike so that is about 6' 3 above the floor.

The original cord for the Gator controls was a coiled short cord. I replaced it with a longer one so I could wall mount the controls.

Bike gear shelves. I made it this way so if a little rain is blown in through an open garage door, the stuff will still be sheltered.


I wish I had a table saw; then my shelves wouldn't be so crude. I use a square of 2x2 furring strips for a frame and attach to the walls and a vertical piece of OSB.

Thanks for the comment. I could also get access to all the wood-working tools I need at my brother-in-law's shop, but it's a good drive away and he'd probably end up doing all the work!

Regarding those shelves - I think I am going to flip them around so they open towards the garage door.

My initial plan for the garage was to build a sort of "island" - more like a peninsula - into the middle of the floor to contain my outdoor power tools and lawnmower. Then I was going to hang a few bikes on the side of that. But I have a change in plans -- I am going to put in a small outdoor "horizontal shed" to hold the mower and other power equipment. Then I will just put bike hangers on the wall, in the area where that Gladiator cabinet is now. I'm going to miss that cabinet if I have to get rid of it, though.

Although my garage is a mess, I have still managed to get a few jobs done in it. Did an oil change on the Prius a couple of weeks ago (spilled some oil, ugh) and I switched out a rear caliper on our Odyssey (reman went bad in two months, ugh).

In other news, going to be switching out tie rods on my son's Prius on Friday. He wanted to get an alignment but they said it was too rusted. So we're gonna cut them out and put new ones in so he can get it aligned.

AND I ordered a new clutch for my 315k mile Ranger. Slave cylinder has failed. That should be fun. I will wish I had a transmission jack!

Son's car needed an alignment, but they wouldn't do it because the tie rods were too rusty. Cut them and replaced them.

Then my son changed the oil. BUT he had bought the wrong filter and it popped off when he was backing out of the garage. Dumped all his oil on my new floor.

I made some new bike holders for the Garage Gator. The MTB ones are designed to hold by the frame, so they won't be putting a dropper post in tension.




It's about 6'5" from the floor to the tires with a 10 foot ceiling. Kind of claustrophobic, I guess. But I'm a shade under 6'.

I set up a Lifetime "horizontal shed" to get most of my outdoor power equipment out of the garage. My lawnmower barely fits!

I want to put up on of the tall thin ones to hold all my shovels and rakes, etc.

It's about 75x42 inches, and 52" high. I wanted something small enough not to raise an issue with the HOA. Also, I don't have a lot of space to put one.

I was thinking it would block the whole basement window, so half is better than none. There are four windows on that wall of the basement - the only windows in the basement.

I decided to move the Gladiator cabinet all the way over to the shelves. I flipped the shelves by the door so I could cram three bikes on the wall. These racks are sold by cyclingdeal on Amazon. I think they are pretty slick, in that they hold road or MTB wheels securely, and they can also swivel (but the swivel is normally locked out) or can be folded up.

The outer two racks are mounted to studs, but the middle one is just on OSB, so I drilled a couple additional holes in the base.

I'm getting close to done with the garage.

My in laws bought me these things, so I put them up. I'm not really into garage decorations. I do sometimes wonder what time it is, so I guess the clock is ok.

Pull the first bike down
Swivel all the bikes

I picked up a high miles Honda Accord Hybrid. It needed a new wheel bearing, which I replaced immediately. I like the car!

Replaced the clutch in my Ranger over Christmas break. My floor is grubbier now. Also replaced the exhaust manifold to fix a persistent leak

I think it will not hold all of those at once.

On mine, there is a metal loop that gets pushed up when the hoist is all the way up. This stops the motor. The bolt that the loop pivots on got bent, so I had to do some work on it, got a replacement bolt and had to put a new spring on the loop.

The hoist drops a few inches as soon as you stop the motor. It didn't use to do that. Sometimes it drops a bit as the loops of cable uncross in the spool.

The whole thing is a bit inconvenient. If you have a car in the garage you have to take it out.

The way you are supposed to use it, is you hang the nose of the saddle on the bar and then drop a hook over the seatpost. But then the bikes hang down and I'd have to duck under them. So I have the wooden boards to hold the bikes level and high. I believe my garage is right about a 10 foot ceiling, and I can walk under.

Nice little space. It kinda feels like my own garage. Six-figures worth of LED lumens, a TOSOT mini split, and white OSB walls. All of it is simple, but it works!
