"Its interesting seeing the little differences between the 2 pumps I have. Both are 505's but the Texaco is a pretty early one. My Phillips had painted on lettering and the ad glass is a bit different than yours. It also never had a globe."

Mine never had a globe, but had a globe delete plate on top.I added the correct mount for the globe.66 logo is just like yours but faint under the decal I added.Too faint

Mine also had "Sixty-Six" painted above the Phillips logo. I don't think it really showed in the pics I posted.

Concrete work was done today. I'm happy with it. I had the same local guy that done the floor in my Morton Building do this project as well.

Sooner or later you will come into work and find a drunk pulled up next to your pumps, having fallen sound asleep while waiting for you to open and unlock the pumps. Happened to a friend of mine more than once.

That would certainly need photographic evidence.

I can only imagine the guys response at being woken.

Some progress on the gas pumps. Blasting/bodywork done and most everything (except a few small misc. pieces) now in primer. The frames are epoxy primed and will be painted satin black. One of the differences between the early 505 and the later are the base. The earlier one is cast iron and the later is just stamped steel.

After all the body work was done on the outer panels they were first etch primed. Allowed to flash for 30 minutes then a 2k filler primer was applied.

Robert (of MP&C fame) was gracious enough to donate a couple old service station driveway bells he had laying around to the cause. Thanks again Robert.

I was at the building early one morning over the weekend and was able to get a few pics while the sun was on the building.

The before and after looks fantastic. Especially the brick wall. You had a great vision and it turned out well.

Marvelous. Just outstanding. I keep thinking that if those pristine white doors were street-side here in the Kansas City area, they would be tagged completely with graffiti. :( The gas pump resto is amazing...to me....with my limited skills. ;)

The place is looking great. I'd think about eventually adding signs above each overhead door for 'lubrication', 'washing', etc. like so:

Cool before & after photos! I had forgotten how much shrubbery was around the building originally. It looks much better all cleaned up.

Its in the plan. I thought about seeing if the guy that made my round 30 inch Sinclair sign would be interested in making me some of those.

Stopped by the building Tuesday after work and had a :wtf: moment :headscrat Solid proof that common sense isn't so common anymore. The street dept. started repainting road marking including the parking spaces around downtown this week. Tuesday they repainted the lines on the east side of my building. One would think that all the garage doors should be cross hatched...but no they only felt the one on the end needed it.

After a quick email to the city administrator the issue was corrected today.

Lots of sanding in the near furture

Parts order from Gas Pump Heaven arrived today

Nice work from the striping crew. Common sense does not prevail anymore. You'd think a simple phone call to a supervisor before painting the parking places would have been in order by the crew doing the work. Glad you were able to get it quickly fixed.

The gas pumps are going to look great.

No way, it's easier to paint first & beg for forgiveness later.

More than likely that the striping dept didn't know the occupancy type had changed for the building. Happens all the time in city government.

A quick update on some of the progress on the gas pumps. I sprayed the inner frames satin black last weekend.

I sprayed the side panels and tops this afternoon. Sinclair Pumps had two tone paint schemes back then. The HC pump will be green/white and the Power X pump will be red/white. I first sprayed a grey sealer on all the panels then followed by 3 coats of base coat. All the products I'm using are PPG brand.

2 coats of PPG DCU2002 clearcoat

The remaining upper side panels and lower doors will be painted white tomorrow. Picked up a lighted plastic 2x3 Sinclair sign today at an estate auction. I'll find someplace on the inside to hang it.

This is the story I believe, given my career with city government in the IT department. Engineering Dept was probably in charge of the maps. These maps and engineering drawings are the final blueprint and had to be followed. Painting crew took the heat.

BTW--If you think ABOVE ground snafus are too common, your head would spin with tales of BELOW ground snafus. Keeping track of all those buried pipes, lines, and drains is a massive job even in small towns.

Actually what happened is the city contracted the paint work out and the crew just restriped the previous marking instead of looking at the obvious. The guys that fixed it were from the city street dept.

Started gas pump reassembly today. The HC pump is pretty much done except for decaling the lower doors and installing the glass I haven't had cut yet. The Power X pump isn't far behind.

Yeah, Fill 'er up, premium, get the windshield, check the oil, and I think the right front tire needs air. Seriously, I think your pricing is bit off. Back in the day, I'm pretty sure there was only 2 to 4 cents difference between regular and "Ethyl". What you have there would be equivalent to a dollar a gallon difference today. Nice work by the way.

Originally both pumps were at 33 cents. I was able to get the first digit to change on the HC pump, but not the 2nd. I wanted to price it at 29 cents and the Power X at 33. The Power X pumps computer is completely locked up. Maybe in the future I'll get some time and to tear into the computers to get them functional again.

HD, i love this building restoration. Only one thing could make it perfect, and that would be living right next to it, lol. I wish I could be there when the pumps are out to see people pull up and figure out where to put their debit cards!!!!
