Thanks for info and better pictures. I've had the materials to build a forming post but it's been low on the priority list.

Sinclair runs an annual Halloween costume contest for station dinos and while looking through this years contestants I realize that none of the dino statues were exactly a like. After that I really started looking and come to the realization there are too many variations to count.

So with that being said I said screw it the 6 footer in Texas will fit the bill just fine. Even with the shipping cost it was well within the budget I wanted to spend on one and its an aluminum version which I feel will hold up better to people climbing on it for pics.

Wow, there really ARE a lot of variations! I had no idea either. The one you picked looks great, can't wait to see it brought home to the old station. :)

Good deal.
Maybe you can fine an old nickel coin box, set it on a post by dinosaur with sign "Pose with Dino 5 cents"
It would be interesting to see how many nickels you'd get and help with future Dino maintenance.

Our local paper does a little feature each week called Did you know in which they post a pic of a long forgotten business or property and give a brief history about it. They always preview what property is going to be next weeks feature at the end of the article. To my surprise the old gas station will be next weeks feature. The best thing about it is I was able to get a better copy of the old Perry Oil pic. First thing I noticed is the string lights that ran a long the office roof line. That will be going on the to do list for sure.

That's an excellent photo Joe. Those lights will give your station even more character at night. Love that you found your Dino, can't wait to see it installed.

Does that mean the local paper still has some old prints or negatives in their archives? I wonder if they'd let you go through them to see if there are any other photos saved away somewhere in the bottom of a dusty file drawer.

The 6' Dino is going to look great.
Is there an old tanker truck in the future plans too???

No plans for a tanker...now a wrecker that maybe a possibility

The guy that does that feature for the paper is a local historian and part of the historic preservation committee. They are the ones that had a copy of the photo. A couple of the members have stopped by the station at different times and invited me to meet with them at one of their monthly meeting, unfortunately my work schedule hasn't cooperated with their meeting schedules.

Joe did you ever expect this little building to become the landmark it’s turning out to be when you started the resto on it.

That has been the biggest surprise to me. I expected car guys to appreciate it, but some of my biggest supporters locally have been from unlikely sources in my view. Even this thread has surpassed every expectation I had 10 fold. The reach of Garage Journal is very impressive.

just spent longer than I want to admit reading this whole thread. The place looks great, back in high school when I bought a car, I picked it up in Perry, also to show how small of a world it is, I'll bet you work with my little brother and my mom's husband at John Deere.

You need to start looking for one of these. :)

This is probably a custom build (it's just a picture I found online), I don't think Tonka ever produced any trucks with a Sinclair livery.

Your wrecker comment rattled loose a memory in my head of the Cassopolis Michigan Sinclair station/museum. It has a wrecker onsite as well as a couple other vehicles.

I also think there is another restored station with a wrecker somewhere, Texas maybe. If I can find that one I'll pass along the link to it too.

[Edit: Found pics of the station in Albany, Texas. It's not a wrecker.]

All I can say is that you could not do that in France without putting a fence around with cameras. Some people steal everything they can here.

This is the thread of the year !

Ça dépend où je présume... mais dans les grandes villes, hélas, c'est vrai...

Homebody, thanks for the reminder on the St. Charles show, I have gone a few times and it's in my backyard, probably less than 5 miles away from me.

Dino showed up about 8pm last night. I took a few pics after we unloaded him. I centered him up on the old basket pad and bolted him down this evening. Haven't gotten any good day time pics yet.

Dino looks great and glad you found one you liked. Agreeing with the others, this will become a favorite photo spot for the locals and visitors.

Dino, like the rest of the place, looks great!

My great Uncle was a Sinclair distributor, so it's by far my favorite brand. I have a few Sinclair items that will be part of my shop.
