well that makes sense, I couldn't see it clearly, just that it had 3 colors. When he said something about La Poste, I thought maybe it had some Latin heritage in the build of it?:headscrat

Yes it's the Iowa State flag. La Poste (French for post office) is the name of the old restored post office that is used as event space now.

Just finished reading this whole thing. Spent about 4 hours yesterday and probably the same today. Amazing job. Another member brought it to my attention when I posted about moving to Iowa last year and looking for things to do around the Des Moines area. We live in Newton. Will make a trip over there this week or next week and see it in person. Are there any times that might be better to catch you there? Just me and my little one during the day once I drop the older girls off at school so probably be a weekday. Not sure what your work schedule is but be great to actually say hi while there.

It depends on the day, but I'm most likely to be around afternoons/evenings during the week.

I most likely will come during the day since I have to pick the kids up from school at 3. I'll wave to the camera and let you know on here when I make it there. Guess that would be a semi official meet and greet?

I need to get over and get y'all a pic of the one in Perry OK. Right next to town square, county courthouse. The architecture and buildings in these small towns is very similar.

No. I saw a pic in here from Perry OK.
No. I did not read every comment, look at every post, on a 57 page thread. Did you ? Why ?

No reason to get snippy.
Yes, I have read every comment, looked at every post...and why you ask? Because this thread ROCKS!:rocker: :)

One of my most prized possessions as a child...about 60 years ago....was an inflatable Sinclair dino. I was heartbroken when it finally developed a leak. :)

It's time to move. My little town used to look like that at night until BMW, Michelin, and there suppliers moved in. I'm surely not a city brat in the slightest of definitions.

The more i look at it, the more hypnotic it becomes.. i think its because theres nothing in it that should be moving to provide a reference point that its a still photo so you could actually be standing there half expecting a light to flicker or a cat to wander out of an alley.

I've been back working for a while, just haven't made the time to post any updates on my projects thread and really didn't plan on putting anything on this one since its really not about that. It is nice having Napa next door and Ace Hardware a few blocks away. I've put new floors in the Galaxie wagon, done a Holley Sniper EFI conversion on a 67 Chevelle and recently got started doing the bodywork on the 53 Customline. That one will be painted by the first of the year. Then it'll be back to the F100.

Getting started on the customline

interested in your thoughts of the Holley Sniper EFI conversion, it's something I want to do to the camaro of mine to make it more streetable. Was it a complete system or still need to buy other parts? Have you fired it up yet?

As for your customline it makes me want to get my dad's 55 Customline started!

Inquiring minds want to know. I'd like to replace the Qjet on my '71 Skylark with FI. I've been torn on DIY or complete kit. I have the ability and the time. I'm not sure if it's worth it. The car is all original and been in my family since new. I have the service tags for the car. It has the Buick 350 and matching TH350 transmission.

You sure do some nice work, wished I lived closer, and had money.:dunno:
I have a couple of VW busses that would sure challenge you.:headscrat
they both need the same work, someone cut the rear frame humps to make 3 wheelers. Makes it hard to find replacement parts on that part of the frame. Probably will have to find someone to fab them up.

I had a neighbor once that hacked a three wheeler. Buses are worth way more than any three wheeler made from a VW.

The Chevelle project is done and gone. It went smooth, the install was pretty straight forward. If you opt for the Holley fuel injection gas tank kit (tank, fuel pump & sender) option save some money and buy the tank kit from Tanks Inc directly. Its their kit in a Holley box. Besides the purchase of the EFI unit you'll need to buy a high pressure fuel pump, pre & post pump filters and high pressure fuel line or buy the tank kit. I feel the tank kit will always be the best option because the fuel pump is kept cool by being immersed in the fuel. If you go the new tank route don't be cheap, make sure you buy a tank for fuel injection. It has internal baffling to keep fuel around the pump.

The only issue I ran into was the clamps for the o2 sensor bung were not big enough for the 3 inch pipe he has on this car. This car has a pretty healthy small block 406 and the Sniper unit seemed to handle the tuning with ease. I never drove the car before the EFI install, but I took a spin through town after and felt it ran good. At that point it was still in the learning phase so it should get better with time. The owner said throttle response is very much improved and it fires right up everytime.

It can be a simple 5 wire install or it can get a bit more complicated if you choose to have the unit control the timing advance and electric cooling fans if you have them. I done this one as the 5 wire hook up (keyed 12v, 12v constant, ground, fuel pump power, and wire to the coil) He doesn't have the right distributor for it to control the timing and I really didn't want to figure out somebody else's wiring mess for it to control the electric fans so I left them as a stand alone systems.

I have a FiTech system for my F100 and honestly feel they are both very comparable systems. I think the FiTech instruction manual is a lot better when it comes to explaining how to wire the different ignition configurations. All in all I was impressed with the Sniper unit. So far it has done what it advertises.

By far, my favorite thread on GJ ....As a collector, fabricator and garage junkie, you have my full attention and respect. Well done!

Thought I’d share this with you, thought of this as soon as I locked up the brakes to take a picture. Found this on the Indiana / Michigan line just off 80-90. Enjoy.

Steve

I agree that the fuel pump should be in the tank, it will also reduce the noise to the cab compare to a electric pump sitting on the frame rail or somewhere else outside the tank.

I'll have to look into each kit and see which one would be ideal for my camaro, thanks!!

Thanks. That's good info on adding in the cooling system and tank pump. I'm just now at getting the car running again after sitting for almost 20 years. It has the original copper radiator and clutch fan. I do have a set of electric fans for it. I planned on using and inline temp switch to activate them via relays. The car could use complete new wiring system. I'm considering it because I will be updating and upgrading the A/C and charging systems along with adding a good stereo system.

The bushes look nice if it were a residential setting. But the clean look after they were removed makes it look like a well cared for gas station. You have done an excellent job with this project.

The thing you have to remember is all the front landscaping including the brick drive work was done in the early 80's when the building was used as the flower shop. I've had many older ladies tell me how "pretty" it was back then, but had really shown its neglect over the past decade. I'm thankful the brickwork was done well because it has stood the test of time very well.
