I was planning a motorcycle trip up through HD FLHX's area but it got cancelled. My SO's oldest daughter is expecting her first child. I had to stay home and tend the house and animals while she went to visit her daughter in KY where they are from. I was really looking forward to petting Dino and giving HD FHLX some good security video footage. :lol_hitti

I had a fellow hot rodder from Ohio send me a Facebook marketplace ad Monday for a pretty rare Lion uniform company advertising doll. Lion was the official uniform supplier for Sinclair. Needless to say it was bought within 10 minutes of seeing the ad and in a box Iowa bound the next morning. He stands 13 tall and is dated 1946. Bought from the daughter of a Sandusky, Ohio Sinclair Station owner.

Another fellow Iowan although further south.

First, I have read through the thread and would love to come see this sometime although the wife thinks it would be silly... Second, I haven't seen a Sinclair station in years (at least I thought) until I took a different way home than usual from work, but a way I have taken many times, and what do I see in little old Hedrick IA but a Sinclair station. No dinosaur statue though.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Was at a yard sale today and stumbled up this. Do you have one? Looks like it was published in 1966. Covers the history of Sinclair, business models, advertising and stuff like that

A few things that have been going on at the old service station lately. I've had plans to put a wall on the westside of the station office to create another display area visible to the public. That is now done. I lost some of my storage space, but thats a tradeoff I was willing to make.

This area will display general service station memorabilia and items that pertain to this buildings history as a Sovereign Service & APCO station and its tenure as the Montgomery Ward service center. Its a work in progress. The shelving will be eventually get changed out for wood units when I get some spare time.

I've been pretty fortunate to acquire some really clean, hard to find Sinclair cans recently. Keep in mind these are 65 to 75 year old cans

The Customline is progressing. The entire car has been blocked, pulled back apart and is about ready to be moved to my shop at home to start preping for paint. It will be two-tone, the colors have been selected. You'll just have to stay tuned to when the color starts going on to see direction I'm going. It will be a satin finish. I will say its not Hot Rod black.

I recently acquired another truck and this Autolite battery was in it. Unfortunately the case had cracked, on the only side with a logo on it of coarse. I decided to take some panel bonding adhesive and try glueing it back together so I could use it as a display piece.

Joe,

Thanks for another delightful update.

Just a thought...I'm not sure how far you want to take the vintage Sinclair exhibit, but have you engaged with any local heritage/historical preservation associations? They may be helpful with regards to research, and may provide outreach to others with a similar interest. They may also be able to put you in touch with other collectors.

Some local historical societies & chambers of commerce may also provide (albeit limited) financial assistance to residents who wish to preserve and display their historically significant homes or businesses.

Keep up the good work!

Love the new display area and what you're doing with the Customline. That body style lends itself well to a two tone paint job. Looking forward to your color selections.

Well geez, that shows how much I know, then. :D I've seen the rectangular cans before, just not the round ones before now.

I should have clarified that a bit. As I reread that post you were referring to the round cans. I'm a little slow sometimes. :rolleyes2

I mentioned briefly in the previous post about buying another truck. I bought this 1951 Ford F1 pickup last weekend at a farm sale. It was bought brand new by the farmers father and had never left the family farm in Garrison, Iowa. It was parked in the corner of one of the old barns in the early 70's. It is incredibly solid for an Iowa farm truck. I needed another project like I need a hole in the head, but these old trucks are getting really hard to find untouched unmolested anymore. It will get a 302/auto/9inch combination. More than likely I'll do a mustang II IFS. I want it to be a good shop truck driver. I have no plans to paint the truck, just bring back as much of the original paint as I can then leave her in her natural state. I'll probably have Perry Oil Co painted on the doors with the Sinclair HC logo weathered of course. This is the truck that the old Autolite battery came from.

Never met a farmer that didn't carry tools in the truck. These were in the tool rack on top of the gas tank behind the seat

I sprayed some metal prep wash on the front of the drivers side fender to see how much of the rust staining would come off. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

I've only done the front corner of the left fender and the grill area, but you can see how much of a difference it will make.

That’s the cleanest farm truck I think I’ve ever seen. You may have not needed it but you just don’t pass those up. How many miles are on the ol’ girl?

Fantastic truck and very good idea to add Perry Oil Co. on the doors with a weathered Sinclair logo.
