What's that tool in the lower right hand corner??

How do you guys find out about garage and estate sales? Craigslist, other? I'm just amazed at that there are so many sales this time of year. :dunno:

Ratcheting cable cutter I believe.

The bottom right is a ratchet cable shear.
Open the jaws around the cable, then squeeze and release to ratchet the jaws closed until cable is cut

Yes, it's a electric cable ratcheting cutter, it's a Huskey, Taiwan. I never seen one by Huskey before. It'll cut just about any size copper/aluminum wire you can fit into it. I have a pair now, but I'll keep these in my building in KY.

Great stuff guys! I see some Klein items, cbacres!
Jeff, no markings on these pliers, but I agree with you there Kleins. Must be some kind of sickness I have, buying another pair, I must have about 8 pairs, mostly Kliens.

CL for me. That and the Flea market schedule/circuit. Some has to be area/weather dependent. We don't get snow, and it's near drought conditions right now, so, while it's slow, I'm crippling along. I do get rain days, and of course there is buying off CL direct like I did the DP last night. Of course Estate sales never have a "season" and most are Indoors, and in garages.

Dang, I don't remember the last time I saw an actual news paper in person. What does the random SO badge go to? Did they have a box or something? Looks like some nice stuff.

There was a SO box (top/middle/roller) with the same badge on it. This must have been an extra one. I thought it was cool so I picked it up.
There was a nice guy who bought the box for his son who's turning 18, and I was happy to hear that. I helped him drag it through the snow and load it up and he gave me a couple tools for helping too.
He actually had the point for my puller in the box and just gave it to me. That's the problem with some estate sales, the box contents are removed for sale in a fury by the estate sale people and good sets get broken up.

Here's my new table score from good 'ole CL. Thought it was a welding table, but the experts on the site confirmed it was a "turtle table" used in the printing industry. Needless to say, when I went to get it today it was in a old school printing shop:bowdown:. I'm going to head up to grab some more stuff in a week or two. It was stuffed full of vintage tools/tables/signage etc. I should have taken a few pics of the shop, but I was nervous the seller would get nervous. He seemed a little standoffish which was to be expected since it was his pop's place he started in the 50's. He recently passed away and was selling the contents.

Anyway, this thing is a true BEAST. I'd say it weighs about 200lbs. or more. Considering the size it is a HEAVY S.O.B!!! I put the 6" CP I scored in 2013:sad:, so pay no attention to the large vise on the table:lol:.

It feels good to be posting up scores on the 2014 GS thread:rocker:!! Just need to step it up and get out of the basement for the top posters spot.

Nice scores guys. I hit one estate sale yesterday but the only thing that interested me was a Craftsman Crown sander but it was too much for first day of sale. I was going to got back today for half price but a buddy who moved out of state lost his storage and wanted me to move his big trailer, a truck, a car ands some other stuff ASAP. He gave me some nice stuff for helping him out.

zk, estatesales.net, craigslist and I go to my local newspaper website classified section, they have a garage sale category with map. There were 11 sales listed today here but only one with tools so I slept in. Next week I'm probably having a sale then hope to get back shopping after that. You guys are rocking!!

One estate sale today. Big old house with vintage red **** carpet. As I walked up long driveway there were two people leaving empty handed - not usually a good sign.

The owner was into armature radio and I picked up some radio accessories. Not much in basement except a drill dr. Not sure why no one grabbed it yesterday.

7abadusu.jpg

Two 12v power supplies. 2.5a and 13.8a

Matt:

Those 2 people leaving empty handed could have been me and my wife . . .

I didn't see the Dr Dr so maybe you were there before me . . . .

Cheers

3baygarage,

I think you wiped out that sale  Not much left when I could get there on Saturday. I think I made a big mistake by turning the significant other on to garage sales and estate sales  Since her work hours are not as flexible as mine she gets a little bummed if I go into work a few hours late on Friday's so I can hit any good sales during Friday openings. I just have to make it up to her by going back out on Saturday when she is off work.

There is already some great scores and suckage going on an we are only into what......... 12 days of the new year?

My meager findings this weekend. I have enough stuff these days but always looking to fill in the blanks or find unique stuff.

-Berylco Berylium-Copper Spud Wrench
-Blue-Point XD series box wrench which fills in an empty spot in the set I inherited from my grandfather.
-Random Snap-On combo wrench
-Craftsman carpenter's rule with brass extention.

Mattblast, in post 144, the "flexible thing" is for mounting a microphone to a desktop. Often called goosenecks. Some mics have the cable coming out the end where it screws into the gooseneck; it will also take a standard mic holder- same threads. You could probably adapt a light socket and shade onto it and make a nice machine light.

I gotta stop "popping in" to carboot sales!

That being said I had myself a £5 bargain haul ;)

View media item 36879
- 8" Bacho adjustable, some flaky chrome: Made in Sweden
- 3 x King **** (imp.) spanners: British made
- Machined Punch
- Stanley small plane, no model number: Made in USA

Anyone able to identify the Stanley?

Also have a lead on a garage closure, tools and all, a lot of snap-on apparently, but its January and pocket money is tight.....but I'll have a gander :D

This junk for 5 bucks.

Kind of esoteric but it was picked through by the time I got there. Nevertheless since a lot of guys don't know what tools do, they leave them behind.

45º carb adjusting screwdriver. pilot bearing puller, small slide hammer, circle cutter, sureform, cheap oil filter tool (but Taiwan) and the best, a plane iron and chisel jig.

Oh, and I got the tool box too, but it's not too good. Still, 5 bucks was hard to resist even though I don't need any of it.

Isn't that the way?

Myself and a couple other guys just got a lucky break going early. All the regulars weren't around, they must be in hibernation mode.
Nice wrenches there. Can't say I see too many bronze spuds.

Not Bronze, BE CU... small amount of Beryllium make Copper VERY strong and you can even make springs out of it...

The problem is the toxicity of BE if ground and inhaled so care must be used cleaning. (i.e. nothing abrasive not even a wire wheel...)

OK I was not expecting to even leave the homestead today, but an unexpected phone call got me to put shoes on and make a short drive.

Someone I have gotten tools from on Freecycle before called and asked if I was interested in an old disk sander they wanted rid of. in the past, I'd been given a 50's craftsman bandsaw, a number of spools of band saw blades, and other tools.

I was like Of course! I'd love to pick them up! Got my shoes on and :3gears: 30 min. later or so I've got these: :bounce:

Delta 12 disc sander, on a delta stand. Exposed belts and the motor could use a better location, but it's a pretty nice sander for all that!

They also gave me an "extra motor" (their words) its a Crown craftsman side grinder wheel on a Wards 1/4 HP motor, and a Crown Craftsman (probably made by General) drill sharpening guide!

I'm thinking I'll use a reversible motor, use a 3 sheave pulley on the disk sander arbor, and set that wheel and drill guide (or one of the several others I have...) on the back side of the sander arbor. the sander and grinder would now be speed adjustable, and I can slow that grinding stone down a bit.

Possibilities...

Oh yeah, they also told me they are still digging through the garage! :pimpflash

Outlaw: that sander has some real classic looks. I do like the 30's water faucet handle for the adjustment. strap a 3/4 HP Baldor motor on it and you'll be able to use that for any job.

by the way do you own 1, 2, 3 or more warehouses to store all these big tools you are coming home with.

I wish I had that extra storage. I added the shed in my sig last spring/summer; this spring I need to complete the reorganization effort...

Thanks!

Good eye! I hadn't noticed the stand being welded! The middle shelf is screwed in, but no adjusting holes so if moved it would need new holes drilled!

That shelf is not original. My guess is the former PO couldn't find a longer belt or just used what they had and made it work. This is an image of what your sander should look like with the motor on the bottom shelf.( not mine borrowed from OWWM .com)

A bunch of nice scores here!!

I've been laying low and selling stuff that I'm not going to use so I can fund future garage sales!

Me too, more importantly the room too! Think I bought 12-15 boxes last year just for the 3-4 pieces out of each that I wanted... or saw a box for cheap, and needed to carry the tools I found at the flea market around lol.

I ended up throwing a toolbox away once i realized the bottom was rusted out. Wasn't much I could do for it so I just kept the tray and the name plate from it.

I did buy some cabinets that I need to paint and get them on the wall once i determine how they are going to be placed!

If I have this in the wrong spot my apologies. I know lots of folks are looking for a box. This box has been for sale for almost 2yrs here locally. I bought my mg725 from this guy and actually saw the box about 1.5yrs ago. He goes from 1k up to 1300 and then back down every few months. When I bought the gun he said around $900 would buy the box. I do not know this guy. I only saw the gun on cl and went and got it. I know the box is super clean and may be brand new. I thought someone may be interested it. It's in northern RI in Woonsocket. I know of it being for sale for 2yrs. It's probably been more. This could be a good score for someone if they are looking for a 40" box.

Yeah I have a lotta time on my hands.

$30 for the bin.

Left group - misc. usa sockets.
Upper center group - craftsman metric
Lower center group - craftsman sae
Right Group - Chinese

The craftsman sockets are mostly -G- and -V- series with a handful of -VV- deeps and the laser etched ones.

I honestly thought when I got home and started sorting them that they'd all be Chinese **** except for those first 3 I looked at on top.

that's a great way to get some extra sockets. now maybe take the ones you like and put the rest in the bin and post a craigslisting for $20 or $30?

I found the containers for some of those sockets just looking for a middle box. paid $100 for these 3 Craftsman boxes with keys and bars. all the drawers work great and in overall great shape except bottom drawer falls off it's slide because it was loaded with nuts and bolts and i'll hopefully fix that.

Wasn't a garage sale, but it was a good deal nonetheless. Stopped at a local Habitat ReStore shop, snagged 6 smaller Craftsman USA wrenches, 1 Wright 1/4-drive breaker bar, and an old drafting brush, for $4.75 total.

The sander is model # 103.22500 I have a craftsman motor same vintage for it and ill have to figure out a stand for it the one it came with is a little unstable. as for the thickness planer it had been stored outside for some time under a tarp. It has some rust but it will clean up nice. not sure of the vintage of it yet.
