OK, I splurged on an Early B-day gift to me off Eprey. You can see what I did with it here: :bounce:

It's a Proto 5449-D, and I will use it primarily on the Mill vise I have for the DP.:

YOU ****!

I've been looking for one of those for years, I can never find one for a decent price. Whatever you paid, I envy your recent purchase...

As for those of us who buy and then re-sell...that's almost a natural requirement of the tool-hunting hobby, as I see it. After all, how many 9/16 open-ended Craftsman wrenches do I want to have in my box? 100? Yet when I find a low-priced tool box filled with an assortment of tools (SOME of which I really want/need), I'm gonna buy it. And, naturally, I'm gonna sell the stuff I don't want or need, trying to reduce the cost of the few tools I do plan to keep. It's just common sense.

And for the record, in the past 2-3 years of buying used tools at various sales, my own tool chests are becoming filled with more and more premium-quality tools which I have very little investment in. That makes me happy.

That's exactly it Lump, I have accumulated several thousand dollars worth of craftsman alone in the past two years of garage sailing and literally have nothing invested but time after selling the unwanted/unneeded tools I picked up along the way. Actually made some monies too ;) :willy_nil

Thought about it, I may end up snipping the tab to release it, I'll never use a padlock on there but I don't want to cut the tab completely off. I could always tack weld it back together once the lock is off.

Found these in my favorite shop today. I try to stop at least once a week at the shop to see if there are any new tools.
I know it's not a steal of a deal, but I didn't have a 6'' adjustable plier yet and I also couldn't resist the Hazet wrenches :D! I didn't need the kongsberg adjustable, but it looked like it was in good condition and I liked the fact it is made in Norway :)
Total was 4.50 euros.

This thread got really funny fast. I used to go to tons of sales bright and early in the morning. There were lots of old guys like that. They would pile in like mad, clog up the sale and not buy a thing. I think they just like to see what people have.

Funny no, defensive, yes.

I see no crying by anyone, people were just stating facts figures and statistics. Some people act as if they were personally attacked, no evidence of that. :dunno:

Out of curiosity, what shift do you work, occupation?

my cl find from yesterday. got it from the orig owner, date code of 9/72. has the key for the top box but not the bottom. has some cool vintage speed decals on it also. he also threw in a hf pressure washer with a bad pump, but the 6.5hp engine runs good. the goofy buick badges are already taken off, lol. paid $75 for the box.

I know some of you guys get the Wards MasterCraft green boxes, I just saw one today at a local thrift shop that was tiny. Four drawers, but it must have been 4" x 6" or so. Priced at $25 so I left it, but if anyone's interested I could pick it up.

I did a quick clean up on it. But it still needs a new belt. The motor and switch appears to be wrong. This will keep me a little busy for a while.

YOU ****!! The belt guard is usually missing, I wouldn't sweat the motor too much as long as it runs good.

.....sounds like someone is bitter...

I work second shift.. I go out a few hours before I get out to work and find some goodies.. I rarely get up to be an early bird for he worms. But--knowing the house is older, and has a messy basement and garage.. Interests me.. Don't hate if someone of us are selling the stuff we buy for a few extra bucks. There are places where the sales just aren't happening-those of us out in the rural areas have the gold mines a little closer. We are glad to spread the love--you just gotta pay the finder "fee". Heck--when you on the last day of the sale and it's 5 degrees outside-you can count on getting the good deals. The last stuff I grabbed this weekend was 50% off day.. I didn't even try to bargain-fella running the sale wanted $10--I was happy to oblige.

Or--quit being lazy and griping about those old dudes who still have ants in their pants and hop outta the sack early, share breakfast with their boys at Dunkin Donuts--then get there early..

Outlaw-Is that mill handle a stock Proto piece--or was it manufactured by a wise machinist?? Pretty cool.

It's not actually a Mill handle, that is it's intended destination though.

Real Proto built. 5449-D; no one so far knows what it was for originally...

I love it when you get something "broken" and all it turns out to be is pilot error!

DT man: Do you happen to know what these were originally for?

I got it off Eprey on a "best offer" deal. He didn't meet my original offer, but the counter offer was at my upper limit, so I took it...

Hey, my turn is coming!

I get a kick out of the older dudes. A few weeks ago there was a short, grey-haired guy who was old enough to have some trouble walking. He picks up a pickle fork and says, "hey, I can use one of these!"

Sure, knock your self out!

So, whats so hard about a pickle fork? :dunno: Hell, I'm 52 and can still use a pitch fork, much less a pickle fork.:bounce:

FINALLY my first garage sale/pawn shop/Craigslist scores of 2014!

Wednesday I stopped at some pawn shops and found a decent P&C adjustable wrench. Went up to the front to pay for it and the guy had a rusty box of tools there. He told me $10 for the whole box, I took a quick look and saw a Snap-On large wrench and a Craftsman ratchet without even digging, sold! Along with a few other tools I paid $17.50 total. I am still sorting it out, lots of junk but bit of Snap-ON, Craftsman, Mac and other tools. Lots of cleaning to do as well! It will be a while before I get pics up.

Well here is some of the better stuff I picked up from the pawn shop. This is after hours of sorting out the junk and cleaning the good stuff.

Blackhawk wrench and 3/4" drive socket, 2 Channelocks, Craftsman punches, sockets, extension. (there are about 4 teardrop ratchets soaking in trans fluid as well) Diamond pliers, Husky wrench and 4 crowsfeet.

Klein pliers and nutdriver, P&C wrenchs and the adjustable that started it all, Proto Challenger wrenches, 36mm socket and 1/2 breaker bar, Proto sockets and 3/8 universal, S-K wrench.

Wizard 1/2" extension, Wiss snips, Wilde box end wrench, Thorsen USA wrenches and sockets, Sparta wrench, 4 Snap-On wrenchs and sockets,

All the import tools are back in the tool box and will go in the next yard sale for $15.

Hit one of the local flea markets Sunday, found a few good deals.

I collect Kraeuter and Dunlap so these 2 Kraeuter's and a Dunlap for $5 was fine by me.

My favorite score of the day, mint Craftsman Crown pocket stone for $3.

A box of tools for $5 had a few good pieces, Straitline chalk line, 2 Dunlap wrenches, Proto speed handle, 2 Craftsman screwdrivers and a few USA sockets. The stuff on the right will go into the yard sale box.

Vintage Champion (Geneva, Ohio) wood vise. Patent date on back is 1917! $10

My second favorite find of the day, Chromcraft Corporation vintage metal swivel chair from St Louis Missouri. Has a NSN (National Stock Number) on the bottom so it may have originally been military/government. Date code on the bottom is Jan 30 1959 it turns 55 years old tomorrow! When the guy said $10 I was all over it!

I needed a few drill bits and the SK machinist box came with it. i'm not sure how sharp the bottom drawer full of them are, but i'm guessing the ones new in the packages might have some life left in them. also not sure of some of the other tools included in this $100 deal so feel free to comment or PM me.
