You guys that carry a shopping list of wrenches and sockets you need would have loved this sale today. I was enticed by an ad for a big tool sale at this small monthly flea market. Much to my surprise the tool seller was our very own ken w., and man what a spread . This turned out to be our first meeting though we've crossed paths before.
I arrived right at 8 AM when the market opened and not surprisingly two of the other big local tool hunters were already waist deep in Ken's tools. Cheaters  . Anyways we all did a little chatting while digging and I had a fun time.

Not going to give what I spent but let's say it was a very fair deal, he had good prices. Almost all the tools were American made and that was pretty awesome. Ken even made sure I didn't waste my time on a bag of cheap import sockets. Hope Ken has a great day there!

Here's a nice assortment of tools. A few oddballs in there like a Craftsman Stainless screwdriver, Craftsman vintage bit screwdriver (only the second one I've see including the one I have but at least this one has a cap), oddball Snap On Octo Grip partial tool that Ken said he's showed online before, an unusual basin wrench head with a drive square, a Snap On railroad wrench, TRW 3/8 METRIC SET, and lots more good stuff.

3bay,

Nice Cornwell set. Is the ratchet an SR-4? I'd love to see close-ups of the 12-point sockets and other handles, especially the markings, and if that's a pain in the ****, then a list of the markings, please.

Good stuff guys! Two stops and nothing for me today except a Craftsman heritage clock from Sears that I saw in the HOT DEALS section here. I posted it in the heritage thread.

NOS tin snips from Florida for $2??

My favorite find. A Piranha cut from 1" plate steel. Weights close to 50 lbs. The seller claimed his dad made it. He insisted he didn't want to keep it so let it go for $7.

? for metalworkers. How does one make such nice clean cuts in 1" plate steel. Does Plasma do this?

One sale yesterday with "Lots of Tools" And there were in fact a few, but not all high end. I did however come away with a couple of Matco Screwdrivers, 2 pincers and a non working (yet) Snap On FK720 ratchet. Pic 1. $9

Pic 2 is from a CL ad and it turned out that I have bought before from the same guy. A nice little "Yankee" vise. It will be for use, not for sale and will find a home on one of my benches. $30

Pic 3 and 4 is first sale today, a cabinet shop was closing. He had already sold most of the good stuff but I picked up a couple of things. Titebond wood glue, Inflator with gauge, Pencil sharpener, and a couple of table bases, which will become stands, probably for grinder and buffer. $20 all

Pic 5 is last sale. Perfect handle screwdriver, Stanley hammer, needle nose pliers and a (probably Chinese) Tap and Die set. $20 all

Nice ratchets Oak!

Private, the Cornwell set is stamped Corrnwell B on every piece except the six point bullet type socket and the combo wrench which both have part #'s and look to be later production.

The ratchet looks like the first one shown on Alloy Artifacts dating back to 1925-26. Wow that's old.

I think they push the pressure up a few thousand psi. I was in a textile mill and saw them cutting 2' of denim with a waterjet that produced cleaner cuts then scissors could do on paper

It's the squirt gun of doom:shocking:

On cutting with water, pressures vary between 30,000 and 90,000 PSI - FYI:
A water jet cutter, also known as a water jet or waterjet, is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The term abrasivejet refers specifically to the use of a mixture of water and abrasive to cut hard materials such as metal or granite, while the terms pure waterjet and water-only cutting refer to waterjet cutting without the use of added abrasives, often used for softer materials such as wood or rubber

I went all out today so I won't be posting here anytime soon lol.
First CL sale is 50's Sawmaster 3100 power hacksaw. The saw is in great working condition with all original parts. The stand is not original since these were sold as benchtop models.
Second CL sale is a whole lot of machinists tools. My intention was to get jut few that I needed and I ended up getting everything the guy had. Way too many to list them all. Now I have more then I need so if anyone wants something let me know.
All in all I feel good about it.

You guys have been killing it. Some really nice scores.

:+1: things are certainly picking up!

I did some research on the "leather" tools, and nope. not that! They are wood checking tools (No. 1 & No. 2) from the Warner Products co. Baldwinsville NY. I Googled/found a reference to the company in a 50's/60's gunsmiths book.

Not much garage sale action here with the cold and the snow. One estate sale with some tools, about 5 minutes from an appointment this AM.

Lots of cheap tools, mostly rusty. But I did find this.

150306%20Haul.jpg

Missing from the picture is the 10 1/2' surf rod to go with the reel and 60 lbs of lead. $15 out the door.

The hatchet with the handle is an American Axe & Tool Americanax. With the handle it weighs 3.25 lbs. It will make a nice kindling axe. The unhandled axe is a winchester.

Unfortunately, the MAC VRF Ratchet came with 7 sockets, but 3 are 3/4". Wish I had one of these about 25 years ago.

Nice finds. Did I read that one part right? You got 60 lbs of lead, along with the tools, for $15?!

They basically paid YOU to take the stuff lol.

We have to post the fails as well, right?

Spring hit today, and my oldest son, my dog and I hit the road for yard sales as usual. 1st one we hit is a church gym yard sale. Walk in and sitting next to the front door is a tool box. Says Snap-on, but I've seen plenty of cheap boxes with Snap-on stickers. Look further, one of the handles is missing, it's got wear and tear but no damage. Open up the flip top and it's got shadowed foam inserts. Looks like a military mechanics tool kit (90+% of the tools were missing, just a few nick naks). I pull out the lonely 1/2" ratchet extension and, sure enough, Snap-on. I look on the back, find the sticker and it's a KRA-4059.

I'm on a budget, and try hard not to buy stuff I don't need. I don't NEED a tool box. But I ask anyway. $75.

I only had a $20 on me. So I walk out the door and get in the truck. I immediately regret my decision, and head straight to an ATM about a mile away, get the cash and head back.

Walk in the door, and say I'll take it, and the owner says 'the guy standing next to you just did'.

dammit.

MK3, that Americanax is my favorite hatchet head pattern. That (should) have a hardened steel insert on the flat side. and the rest is forged steel. It's harder to sharpen, but holds an edge much better.

If you replace the handle get the longest one you can with the curved handle. It makes it 3X better cutter, and a lot more useful. I have one with a 30" handle for camping, and it's all I need, as it's ax and hatchet (and stake hammer) all in one...

Nice find on the Winchester head! Those are worth $$

Saw-jaw?

Stump vise for sharpening chain saws in the field

Learned something new today! :rocker:

Walk in the door, and say I'll take it, and the owner says 'the guy standing next to you just did'.

dammit.

We've all been there man :( get a handle on it ;) (pun intended). I swear we need a pat on the back icon.

This is a recent haul I made here locally. I need to clean the grime off the wrenches. The Craftsman 1/2 drive ratchet and breaker bar are both V code. There are two SK wrenches, a 7/8 and a 3/4. Also in the picture are a Craftsman 7/8 and 21MM wrench and a 1/4 drive Craftsman ratchet. My problem is that even if I already have a certain tool, if I run across another one at a yard sale or pawn shop, I can't help it. I still have to buy it!! :willy_nil

Nice finds. Did I read that one part right? You got 60 lbs of lead, along with the tools, for $15?!

They basically paid YOU to take the stuff lol.

Well...once I got home I realized the 2 biggest ingots were zinc. Traded them at the scrap yard for lead. Ended up with about 40 lbs of lead ingots once I melted them all down. Should keep my casting furnace fed for a while.
