Finally get to post in the GS 2015 thread!

Vintage Stanley Industrial router.

7/8 HP - 23,000 RPM.

Purrs like the day it was made, and will most likely outlast anything made today.

Just a little bit bigger than a laminate trimmer, but smaller than the more usual PC unit.
Wmn8

I did my first routing jobs with that exact model Stanley router. I borrowed it from a co-worker. It worked great!

Picked these up, an old Cochran pipe wrench and an oxwall screwdriver/nut driver rack. The rack looks like a display rack from a hardware store and the best part is it was free! I plan to hang it in my shop and use it, the wrench was $3, only got it because it looked neat.

When it rains it pours....I had run my cute little ultrasonic cleaner out of water and fried the transducers, so I went looking for something a little bigger on the old Craigslist.

Well, bigger it is. 16x22x16" bath, three industrial transducers with individual generators. It was pretty spendy for a garage sale deal, but pretty cheap for a no ******** industrial ultrasonic.

Also, my local Radio Shack was closing, so I asked if the cabinets they sell the smalls out of were for sale. They were. So I got 8 of them...

...for $50, or $6.25 each.

Now I've got to find room.

Me and buddy went to a house that the husband passed away. Him and I where the first guys in the garage in about 10 yrs. There where only paths and stuff pile 8 feet high. We got some stuff but the memories meant a lot more.

Have a good one Gerard

That sounds like a fun time. Wish I was there!

Good deal. What are the specs on them? All metal? Dimensions? Ball bearing slides?

Lista/Vidmar they aren't, but I'm pretty thrilled to have them for small parts.

They're 16.5Dx23.5Wx25H metal frames and drawers, roller bearing slides with detents, and each drawer has a plastic insert with pre-defined rows of plastic lanes and divider cards in the aisles which will be repurposed as part label cards.

The drawers have no bottoms, so without the plastic insert or some sheet steel they won't be holding anything! Thankfully all 56 drawers have the inserts. I'm hopeful they fit the Akro Mils 5 inch wide bins (arg...too shallow).

So as I was taking kiddo to school this morning, a friend of mine who sells at flea markets hit me up.
"Hey, wanna come with me to dig through this warehouse in Philly?"
Sure! What the hell!

after some BS'in, $20 landed me this box:

They literally had totes of tools a pallet high... I quickly skimmed through 1/3 of the skid...

They usually sell at flea markets in the city, and got the majority of the tools for pennies or less, so they were happy with roughly $.50/tool.

That Plomb... I swear I have/had a Hinsdale identical to that. And looks like no other Plomb I've seen. Anyone think Hinsdale made these or did Plomb make the Hinsdales?

Is that some of the hard to find Craftsman CF sockets?

Hit a few sales today, not much at first.

Older Craftsman ball peen hammer, $3

Davis First Aid kit, full. $5
I will replenish the out of date stuff and mount it in the shop.

Vintage Chicago padlock with key, $2

And my last stop of the day I almost didn't go to......

Lawson hardware 4 drawer section with 3 drawers (2 full, cotter pins and machine screws)
18 drawer cabinet AND 72 hole bolt bin. And what was in the bolt bin? 26 POUNDS of grade 8 bolts!

$100 for all. :bounce:

Nice scores on the bolts and racks BB!

Sorry smoke, no real clue, but based on the styling I'd say late in the life of the company.

Only two sales showing tools and garages in my area, both a half hour drive away, but neither enticing enough to drag me out into 12 degree weather. Instead, I'll engage in the equally fulfilling activity of preparing to file my taxes...

As clean as that vise is it deserves a "you ****".

It has T-jaws so it's not real new. 70's?

It is really clean :) No grease on it until I lubed the dynamic jaw and inside of the static jaw. When you flip the vice over the bottom of the swivel base is completely clean cast metal except for a few spots of surface rust

Two small sales near me this morning.

The first house was mostly cleaned out before the sale. There was a Reed 204 on the bench, but another guy called dibs and then couldn't get it off the bench. One of the bolts was lined up with a 2x4 support and held with a blind nut that was jammed. We couldn't get a wrench in there, and the bolt wouldn't loosen enough to get a hacksaw blade in. It's just as well, the fixed jaws were worn and beaten and the slide was really loose from wear. This was a very well used vise. All but worn out.

There wasn't much, but I did walk away with :

Pic 1 - $20
Dexter No.3 multi-size pencil sharpener (for the shop wall) (included shavings )
1/8 pegboard hooks
Edgeworth Tobacco tin full of copper rivets
4 boxes of T&B Sta-Kon uninsulated connectors
Wood Fid (for net making)
unmarked body dolly
5 rolls of waxed thread
E.C. Stearns & Co (Syracuse NY) 2-1/2" c-clamp

The second sale was a family cleanout from an elderly man. The basement had been flooded, and both carry boxes were still full of water and rusty lumps of handtools. There were rat nests all over the place. The bench was so cluttered that even with gloves I was afraid to touch anything.

Pic 2&3 - $20
Roll of 2" clear packing tape
Greenlee # 735 Knockout set
SK #42470 1/2dr ratchet (pretty much the only handtool that hadn't been sitting in stagnant water for the last year)(not my favorite style, but I couldn't leave it behind)
Creative Sales model #1004 type II (225lbs) aluminum work platform

Picked this up off the c list earlier this week for $50. Very gently used 4" Colombian vise. Anyone know hold it is?

That looks nice, congrats. I'd say mid to late 70's potentially into the early 80's. It is in the late 70's craftsman catalog.

Nice finds posted so far guys!

Well I had to leave town to do it, but I did get some stuff this AM. Nada, zero, zilch, in town...

Both were planned stops, none of the TOO's had anything. Most of it came from stop #2, where I was allowed into the detached garage to do a limited dig.

Stop 1 (mostly, the Williams "Superwrench" ignition wrench was from last week; I found in in the back seat, after it went missing...), Glass door knobs, NOS (shelf rust, it still had it's box..) paint stripper, Mercedes B. rear brake pads for a 1985 SEL, and some fluorescent Line.

$2 all

attachment.php

Everything else was stop No. 2:

3-1-2 & 4" **** gauge markers, 3 Prong adapter, Husky retractable mirror & 1/4-3/8 drive flex ratchet, Ryobi Driver heads, Shark Fine tooth pull saw, Mini back saw, hack saw blade holder, and a handle (made in germany) for I think a flush cutting saw blade.

attachment.php

2 Adjustable C clamps, two #3 drivers - One of these will probably get chopped to a stubby, and a 3 way clamp

attachment.php

3 Jorgensen Bar clamps, 18", 24" and 36"

attachment.php

2 Miro Moose Screw clamps; Total bill for Stop #2 was $30:

attachment.php

This I did NOT get, I spotted it in an overpriced CL ad, but I struck me with the right CFLs, this would make a great over the workbench extra light where you could pull it down close for better light. I can remember doing that as a kid at our kitchen table during card and board games...

Anyone else remember these?

We had one in the house when I was a kid also, it was a little older looking then that one but it was nice to pull down the light at the table when playing cards and such.

I took a gamble on a $2- as is Facom ratchet today from a local surplus store.... Thanks to all the threads and reading done here I figured I could prob get a rebuild kit if needed so I picked it up. Facom J151 8SGOG France 3/8 drive. Cleaned the layer of grease off of the rubber handle then opened her up to see dried up grease gluing the internals together, Cleaned/lubed - Good as new.

Yep, that husky flex double drive was frozen solid, and about 5 min cleaning and lubing and it's good as new. someone had let a little water get inside, and it was locked in surface rust. All gone now.

Anyone know the COO of that era husky? It seems to be 72 teeth. I'm guessing Taiwan.

Scimonetti, the orange handled thing is a hitch pin, typically used on tractor implements. The big handle makes it easier to yank on if it gets stuck and it's easier to find if you drop it in the dirt.

Jack, Great find. I have the same ratchet. Are you sure it was grease on the handle? Mine gets gummy from time to time - like something is seeping from the plastic. At some point I may pull the handle and install something else.

We added two more sales to the list this morning that were listed late. Our first stop was just around the corner from us and mentioned lots of NOS mechanic tools. We got there on time and there was 15 people digging around and more by the time we were leaving. The garage looked like a hoarder lived there and this guy was there to clean up. I dug around on the tables outside before climbing in to the mess of a garage and found these few items. There is a NOS 3/8 Blackhawk ratchet set and a NOS 3/8 Blackhawk 9 piece extension set made by Stanely Proto along with a roll of Blackhawk security tape! I also scored a NOS Truecraft 1/4 set in the box, set of NOS SAE & Metric crows feet and a lot of loose new/like new all Truecraft Japan. guy was cool but wanted a lot. He came with $60, I offered $40 and we settled on $50. :willy_nil
01811.jpg

Next stop was a bust, "sold all the tools yesterday" but the 3rd stop paid off. There were lots of used HF tools marked 50% of new prices but I found one box with unmarked tools in it and these were new. I chanced asking the guy how much he wanted for them and to my surprise, his reply was "My wife didn't mark them? Let me see." I hand them to him and after looking them over he says, "I don't know, how about $1 for the small one and $2 for the big one?" :eyecrazy: DEAL!
NOS HF universal impact set and Channel Lock 808, 420 and 100-10 set!!
01812.jpg

So we hit the 4th stop and it's bust, then head out of town to the 5&6th planned stops. The 5th was a bust also but we found a new "vintage store" between stops and checked them out. I can see him having good things if you are there when they get put out but all I saw this time was a bunch of Craftsman standard hand tools. Prices were good on most things, he was high on a Milwaukee band saw but seemed willing to wheel and deal a little if you have cash in hand. I got this valve for the sink and the Williams B52 for $5 otd.
01813.jpg

Finally the last stop, which was the only one I had planned since early in the week. I saw the grinder in the ad and sent them an email trying to buy it earlier in the week. They said they could not get to anything until the day of the sale, but they would hold it for me if I could make it there. When we got there, it was a strange group of new office buildings with a parking lot out front. We go to the office door with the address and walk in to a finished two car garage like any standard home has, with door and all. :dunno: There are lots of people there digging already so I go straight to it and look around the vicinity for a screwdriver to remove it from the bench. Another guy has his hands full of shiny wrenches, I can't make out a brand due to the panic of getting the grinder. After securing it by the cashier in my new "pile", I rummage through the boxes and **** on shelves and come up with a set of DOE Craftsman wrenches a Craftsman dremmel tool, 17mm Craftsman combo and a pair of Proto hose clamp pliers. We previously negotiated a deal for the grinder at $30 so he asks for $50 total. I come at him with $40 and he says the grinder and wrenches are worth his asking price so I cut the **** and paid him before he decided to go up...
01814.jpg

We stopped back by the fist stop on the way home to see if the garage had been cleared out any and new things put out. I dug around and found some tack things I needed the other day for a project and could not find in my junk, a Truecraft tool catalog from the 90's, NOS KD magnetic tool and the cool Blackhawk key chain. I go to ask the price and he mentions remembering me from this morning, I say yeah, how much for all of this? He says, "for you, free"!

Nice scores Nine. Straight up parts store tool goodness right there! Sweet key chain & tape. You might have to put up some of that Blackhawk caution tape to keep us from drooling all over you finds!;)

Great ratchet save Jack!

Nice finds all!
This week was a bust for me. Craigslist ad I called blew me off twice after promising to set up a time to look at tools. Little interested me in estate sales and the flea market yielded cold winds and a story from some old kook about his 1978 microwave that is still up and running. Supposedly "Panasonic" brand  he says.

Tools from last Sunday though, went back to Saturday's sale and not much good stuff was left but did ironically grab a Proto plier and partial Thorsen/Action wrench set to go with the long mixed Thorsen/Action set from day before. I know they are the same.
Makes me wonder if one was phased out in a store and the other replaced it for warranty or what? Or were they sold that way?

Marked down to $10 for the bunch and the rusty hedge clippers were thrown in free. As I was leaving they were on the front porch in the snow and the guy said take them.

Been down with the stomach flu last several days but I picked these up earlier in the week and a few from last weekend. It's always tougher pickings here in the frozen north during the winter months. Found two Mitutoyo digital (non-electronic) mic's for cheap. A Cleveland drill bit set in a wood block with a rotating steel washer with a hole that you spin to the drill bit size you need. What I believe is a heated windshield removing tool for melting through the rubber seal, made by Somaca. I was worried it would shock me but I had to check it out... took a while but the tip did get hot.
