I opened it up and it looks super simple so I unplugged the connectors and plugged it in an extension cord and the cooling fan is now spinning. The compressor does not seem to be running unless it's slow to change temps. :dunno:

I'm posting a separate thread on it now to see if anyone knows more.

It's essentially the same basic workings as a window AC, refrigerator, dehumidifier, etc. You will need a gauge set, it might have a leak somewhere.

Crummy yard and estate sale (all but two were no shows, only one ES had anything and that was day 2 leavings...)

Heyco multi Spanner with an open end, a pin and hook spanner and two other pin spanners. I'm sure this was a tool specific tool. I need to replace one pin. no big deal.

$3 all (except the clamps and one socket)

attachment.php

The Heyco wrench is for a BMW motorcycle, Airhead 1970 to 1980.
The 2 pins (including the missing one) are for the fork caps. Without checking mine, I think there's a 24mm for fuel taps, and the hook wrench is for steering lock nut. The other two pins are (I think) for swing arm dust caps on earlier models.

Outlaw, I just noticed that chuck. Is the shaft on it 3/4" with two flats on 90 degrees from each other? That looks like the one I've been looking at for my mag drill. :headscrat

Nine; that sounds about right; not sure about the 3/4" but I'll check when I get home. if it is a fit, it's yours.

Gart; thanks!

Ben; is the diamond plate for something specific? Free is always good!

Farmer; Box cleanup: Simpler green is good, some use dawn or laundry soap and a scrub brush. I'd be careful with strong degreasers as it could take the paint off or damage it... Kennedy recommends WD-40 for box cleaning.

Slides - clean as above (one guy made up a section of PVC pipe to soak tham easily with minimal cleaning solution needed...). Once clean, use beeswax or Door-Eze stick lube. It's less likely to pick up dust/grit...

WTF is up with people posting **** on CL and then never answering emails??? Some GOOD stuff out there and can't get any of them to respond!! Frustrating :dunno:

Sometimes it's still worth it to keep trying. I've been chasing two CL ads and one has not responded but the other did immediately and saved the item until after work today and sold to me at less than asking. I'll get pics posted later. Yes there are some nuts out there and there are also some nice people just cleaning out the garage.

Pawn Shop Score?

Picked up the following:
Herbrand T-23 open combo 11/16 - 5/8
Plomb 3034 open combo 11/16 - 5/8
Plomb 3030 open combo 5/8 - 9/16
Proto 3030 open combo 5/8 - 9/16
Craftsman 43101 7/32 distributor wrench
(2) CM =V= open combo 19/32 - 11/16
CM -V- box combo 3/4 - 5/8
CM Underline C 11/16
no name made is USA 11/16 - 3/4

came in a box drawer, wish they had the whole box. It will make a good drawer organizer.

The 2 3030's have a name scribed on them and USAF. Makes you wonder what they have worked on.

All for $7. I love my SIL! (who is asst mgr at said pawn store)

Something tells me I am set on 9/16-11/16 wrenches. Maybe not...

Nice set of wrenches . . .BUT I must disagree . . . you can NEVER have enough wrenches of any size. More more more!

Good deal on the screwdrivers. I think the box is a Huot, but as Outlaw mentioned let's see a picture of the drawer slides. An overall picture would help as well.

Damn Good call, especially considering the crappy picture I had of it. after some cleaning and pulling out the drawers, I discovered that it is indeed an Older Huot. I really haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet, but it should clean up nice. Might need a new paint job.

So I totally forgot about this purchase that I got at the same estate sale as the block grinder, check out this Wilton C-clamp, I can't say that I have ever seen one like this. any thoughts? btw paid 2.00

No, the diamond plate isn't for anything, just a gift. Just to have , because not everyone has it!
I did post in What are you doing in your garage today, trying to make " Homemade " outlet covers.

More great finds guys! Keep posting. . .

I found a 1943 Blackhawk wrench this weekend. No big deal, just a cool wrench. But I just saw these letters on it today. USAAF What do you suppose it is? My two thoughts:

1. US Army Air Force (I thought it was air corps back then though)

2. US Army Air Field

What say you?

It's definitely the first, sarge.

The Air Corps was a branch of the Army, like the Signal Corps, or the Medical Corps, etc, from 1926 to 1941. In 1941, it became the US Army Air Forces, unifying the Air Corps with several other related components. In 1947, it became the separate service that it is today, completely autonomous from the US Army.

That's a weird one for sure, maybe it was part of something else like a corner clamp or for a welder?

Thanks Lug! That's pretty interesting . . .I now can say that this is a wrench that "escaped" from an Army Air Force tool box no earlier than 1943 and no later than 1947. A cool piece of military history, however small.

So this isn't tools and might be against posting rules but i Used alot of my garage sale tools to accomplish the job of setting these. They are also a local antique/junk store find.
I know there are a lot of carpenters on here that share the same passion for this old wood as i do, so enjoy!
They are 1877 turned porch columns from the historical patrick ranch house which is a now a museum. They came off the house when it was finally renovated from its original condition. It is just a few miles down the road from where I live. I still have two more to set this weekend.
I bought 3 at 60$ each, they are solid one piece wood and in very good condition, no dry rot at all. the square bases are 6x6 roughly
not bad for over 100 years old!

Does that clamp have some sort of quick set feature, either a lever/tab to release, or some allow you to just push the screw in but have to thread out?

Picked this up today after work. It was a CL ad I stumbled on last night and immediately responded to the owner. A nice young lady cleaning out the garage of this rusty old socket set. The box is pretty rusty outside but metal is solid so it can be saved. A little original paint is left on the inside but the New Britain decal is long gone.
This is a None Better brand 1/2" socket set made by New Britain. The original leather handle on the box is still there and mostly intact. It's the S-40 model ratchet that was patented in 1940 and from the look of everything it likely dates back to that pre-WWII era.
Most of the original sockets are there, the ratchet still rotates well and the breaker bar and speed wrench are there. A few other pieces were added over the years. A couple Cornwell universals and other odds and ends.
$25 for the whole set. I am happy and can't wait to clean it all up.:willy_nil

This is a huge YOU **** in my world!

The only visible difference between the 1940 ratchet and the ratchet New Britain would patent and, oddly, start making only a year later is the length (got shorter) of the selector switch. For that reason, and because they are relatively rare, most WWII collectors will put the 1940 design for New Britain, NONE BETTER, Husky, and Craftsman BE in their kits without any qualms.

What is the finish on the sockets and handles? And are the sockets marked like this?

nonebetter_007.JPG

Or do they say 'CHROME' on them?

Thanks for the extra info on the ratchets. I've been trying to find out more history on these via the web.
I've cleaned off the outside of one socket to take pics and the finish seems like chrome plating but does not have the word "Chrome" on it anywhere.
The sockets are marked similar to yours except the number is T1240 as seen in the attached pics.

Anyone that has pics of what the original set should look like and the original box paint color that would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know what this is?? It's a Lufkin 520?

On this side of the pond this is whats called either a surface gauge or a scribing block. Its a machinists tool to be used with a surface plate to mark layout lines on a work piece which is tradionally covered with marking blue and now often felt tip pen. The diagonal rod (the scriber ) is set against a rule using either the clamp on the verticle rod or the large pivot at the bottom and the other screw at the base gives some fine adjustment. Useful for marking out parallel line to place screw holes etc Can also be used with some adaption to hold a dial indicator. I've either two or three made by Moore & Wright including one about 18" tall.

I'm hesitant to post without pics but I assure you guys I'll get pics up tomorrow. After our little gathering last evening, I had a bit of trouble getting up at my usual 2:30 am so, I slept in, got the girls off to school, and hit the road picking. First stop was a former CL pick Beatcad and I hit in January. He had dug up some more stuff and I came away with some Blackhawk ratcheting combos for beat, along with some other BH smalls, tons of underline craftsman circle H sockets, and a few pieces of Proto and S-K miscellany. Next I hit a few out of town pawn shops and grabbed some Bonney wrenches and sockets, various Proto, S-K, Williams, and Wright sockets and wrenches, and 2 SO ratchets. Lastly, I hit a tool shop in that area. They had a lot of older stuff on display, then gave me access to their hoard in the back. Got about 125 or so sockets from BH, S-K Wayne, Proto, Challenger. Full sets of BH 3/8 drive deeps, BH 1/2 in drive shallows, S-K 1/2 in drive shallow, full set of Bonney 1/2 in drive triangle shallows, and S-K Wayne could be a set of 1/2 in drive shallow. Filled 3 vacancies on my 1/2 in Proto board. Also got a full set of Proto LA DOEs, and a full set of Challenger DOEs. Next are a couple Plomb pebble wrenches, 2 Proto LA pebbles, and a large transition year Plomb/Proto combo wrench I've been searching for forever! Also a few more odds and ends wrenches and a bunch of wobbles, extensions, et. And the coupe de gras, I finally found a 3/8 in drive Proto socket display! The trip cost me $250 + gas.

RK, New Britain made those for Craftsman as well. Mid/late 30's to early 40's I think. Nice score!

Would you mind taking some detail pics of the leather handle? I have one I need to replace, guitar case/amp handles on ebay look like a good fit but I wanted to be sure before I dropped the coin.

And Lastly

Pic 1 is all Blackhawk (for Beatcad) sockets and wrenches
Pic 2 is Bonney
Pic 3 is a couple odds and end proto/S-K wrenches and the rest are all S-K Wayne sockets
Pic 4 - Wahoo! My 3/8 drive Proto Board.

Ok, Pics 5 and 6 --- Armstrong Blackhawk :dunno: Anyone that can shed some light on that?

Pic 7 - I KNOW I've seen this discussed before but can't for the life of me find the thread. What are these sockets? No brands, just the size and symbols.

Good picking there twertsy. That last pic, the socket with the (H) is Hinsdale. The star socket is Indestro. The other, looks like a "D" on it, could be Duro.

Snap On green ratchet=

Picked these up at the local thrift store for $15. 3/4 thru 1" SnapOn combo. Also came with a US made Craftsman 15/16 combo.

Anyone know a good way to remove some of the surface rust without scuffing up the chrome? I guess I could take scotchbrite to it then re-polish.
