Here's my puny haul for today....
DSC07123.jpg
Got all 3 items for .40 cents.....the guy said .50 cents but .40 was all I had in change and I didn't want to break a buck so he said O.K. :bounce:

The little slip joint pliers aren't channellocks.....I thought they were before I wired brushed the rust off  they have no name and are pretty cheezy but what da hey....
The needle nose ones look and feel like quality but there is no name or markings on them.
Lastly the Kobalt 6-in-1 screwdriver was in great shape except the #1 phillips end.
DSC07125.jpg
All the other ends looked like they've never touched a screw!
DSC07127.jpg DSC07128.jpg

But.....I had to run to Lowes this afternoon....So....I just took them along to see IF they would warranty it.....
....Here's my brand spankin' new replacement 6-in-1.....ain't she purdy?

Better luck than I had.
I hit 3 garage sales this past weekend that all said they had tools. Came away empty handed. Didn't see a single tool. Must have been referring to the people having the sales...

I think a lot of people that hold garage sales have figured out that listing tools will bring in a lot of customers. Last season I went to quite a few that listed tools but there was not a tool in sight and it was painfully clear that there were never any tools. Just little old ladies selling home made craft items at ludicrous prices:mad:

Hahaha. Crochet needles could be considered a tool.

Finally posting in here. Got the first pic for $5 at a garage sale that was supposed to be THE garage sale to go to for tools. Not so much. But there was another one five minutes down the road, which actually was the one to go to for tools. Guy was cleaning out his old man's shed. Got that lot with the vice for $20 :).

Good stuff, what vise is that?

Ok, I'm finally gonna start posting some photos of tool finds again. Got burnt out for a while there, and kept buying but stopped posting. Sorry.

Anyway, today I got there late at an estate sale to see if anything was left (always crowds pushing and shoving 1st thing in mornings at the sales this company runs, rather come later). Found a Snap On 1/2" drive swivel impact socket in 3/4" size, an SK Phillips driver, and a nice little "HOLD-E-ZEE" screwdriver. All in great shape, priced at $1 each. (They had price tag over top of the SNAP-ON name on the socket. LOL).

But then I spotted a cool tool chest in a corner (turned out to be two chests, stacked). It was a Rem Line chest, in pretty darn good shape.

I noticed that the top was actually wood. Then I read the serial number label tag on front, and noticed that the company address was pre-zip-code era. Nice.

All the drawers worked fine, no major dents, rust, or scars...not missing any handles. Hmmm...

Backside was nice too. Price was $45. A BIT much, but I really liked this chest, and want to keep it for my own use in sorting out all those sockets and wrenches in my collection.

Wife wanted some kinda candle-holders too. So I made them an offer on the package, and they accepted. I must have about $40 in all the tools and chest. It was a good day, I think.

Did you go to the one in Springboro by chance? Looks like they had lots of nice stuff. Those Remline boxes are very nice. Worth the price IMHO.

YES, Zkling, exactly! Springboro is about a 40 minute trip from my office.

They did have quite a few hand tools; and there were clues that the guy may have been a tool maker or machinist. I saw a Kennedy tool chest full of little tools and scraps from a tool maker, and some steel blocks, etc. I found a set of 10 or 12 Herbrand combo wrenches, but the owner had engraved his name into every one of them. And they had lots of decent C-clamps, and I LOVE good quality C-clamps. But I have a LOT of them, and these were $6 each, so I passed.

There were a bunch of Craftsman raised-panel STYLE wrenches in their photos, but those were gone when I got there. But at these kinds of sales, the Craftsman brand name usually means the tools will be over priced.

It looked like they had quite a bit of nice stuff (saw a pair of knipex). That is quite a drive for me, and didn't see anything I really needed in the pics (wanted the lever action). What was the "old vise" they had? From the pics it looked like some of the stuff was pretty reasonable.

Very nice - I like those with the kinda art deco racing stripe thingies along the bottom.

The "old vise" was a tiny no-name unit. Around here, some of the sale operators have learned that tool collectors will come looking when they see the words, "bench vise," and they use that term whenever they can.

That little vise was gone when I got there, but I had seen photos of it before hand.

Thanks, nine4gmc. Good to be back. But you will notice my buying habits have adjusted a bit. I am way more selective now...passing on lots of pretty good deals. I have so many tools stacked up around my small garage that I am having troubles finding places to work. LOL.
I plan to start focusing on filling out sets, and keeping only certain brands, or certain tools that I really want or admire. Soon I will sell off some brands, like Plomb, Proto, Snap On, Husky, etc, so I can focus on others that I still need or want. Wish me luck!

So I put a "tools wanted" ad on CL this morning and got an email back in literally under 5 minutes. Snagged this box of her "grandfather's tools," all USA made MAC, SO, Proto, etc. and the 3 1/2" Wilton Bullet for $50.

Picked up a Dormer drill bit set yesterday. Only 11 of the 29 bits, but they are in really nice shape for the most part. A couple don't look like they've ever been used. All are stamped "England".

What I'm sure she held in high regard are the 5 kids she had in the house trying to make a living with a husband doing exclusively storage auctions. Oh and by the way "Rod," she asked for $30.
My apologies for being judgemental. It's a great find and I would love to see the rest of the tools. It sounds like she has her priorities in order, I just sometimes wonder why people in that situation don't ask more for the tools. I had an interesting conversation with my wife about it and she disclosed that before she met me, she would have done the same, or probably even dropped them off at Goodwill! That's pretty crazy when you consider that her dad probably owns about 100k in tools and equipment.

That Collins hatchet is cool, I've never seen one with a nail puller on the underside of the hammer head before, nice find!

$60 bucks on the plates (all matching pairs) and tabs, $5 on the tools. Tools are Snap on to the left, SK in the middle, and Craftsman V on the right.

What's the date code on that Wilton? Does it have GUAR EXP on it?

AND PS YOU ****!

New to the forum. Went estate shopping while visiting my parents in the 'big city' today.
Found an early Kreg Pocket Hole Jig. Model M-2. Still in the original box, can't see any real marks from being used a whole lot. Got the jig, bit, and vise grips for $22. Probably not a steal, but I had been wanting a kreg pocket jig, and this is cheaper than the newer plastic jigs they sell. Ready to get to work with it.

edit: can't seem to post photos right. Here is a link to what was in the box.

T4runner, in my opinion you are #1 on the list for "YOU ****" of the week with that $40 mint 1 HP Craftsman block grinder!
