Got this off craigslist for FREE today!! Called within 15 minutes and drove to the guys house and picked it up he said he couldnt get it started and didnt want to mess with it.
I cleaned the carb and the main jet was all blocked up, changed the oil, new ngk spark plug, new air filter, and checked the gas tank screen for debris. The gear box wasnt leaking so I sprayed all the linkages and left the gear box alone. It fired right up on the first pull! All the gears work too. clutch engages smooth. It only needs 2 new rear wheels....

I have been using my dads old briggs and stratton craftsman that he gave. me its over 20 years old and I used to mow the lawn at my folks house with it when I was very young. It still runs well.

Ill guess I will retire it to weed and ditch mowing and keep the honda for the lawn.

Dang, just no sales worth chasing this weekend. I checked Craigslist for garage sales, and tools, and estate sale sites. Nothing. Oh well, guess I can always organize the junk I already have....

Perhaps my favorite find from yesterday's box/vise adventure. This thing still works, including the reel/locking mech. I've gone through 4 of these stupid things (new ones) in the last year and a half because the reel locks keep failing. I'm betting this is '50's or '60's vintage if I had to guess, based on the logo/lines. I'll also be this will outlast any new one I buy!

I woke up to more snow flurries this morning.
Went to 2 sales. The first had some professional tools from a retired welder, but everything was priced for guys who had money to burn. The second sale was way out at the end of my traveling range. When I got there it looked like no-one was home and nobody would answer the door bell. It was just a waste of gas.

Dang Jake, snow?!?! It's 73 here right now, be 80 and storming this afternoon. I don't see how you guys do the cold.

No sales today, thought there would be one or two pop up this morning but no such luck. Couple estate sales next weekend, maybe one of them will be promising.

I'm living through y'all today so my fingers are crossed for you!

Cold is easy to deal with, it's the wind that gets you. I'd rather have cold than heat. In the cold I can put another layer on, in the heat eventually I'll get arrested for indecent exposure taking layers off to stay cool.

Everytime we get a little thaw, everyone around here forgets how to drive when they see another snowflake. Everywhere I went this morning the drivers were either creeping along, or having to get pulled out of the ditch. It took forever to get around. :willy_nil

You should it when it snows around here, Texas is worse. They drive 90 mph over there year round, when it snows, you'll see cars upside down and piled up everywhere. :lol_hitti

Nice. And anything with a name like "Cordomatic 900" with the name embossed into the metal rather than some cheap vinyl sticker just has to be saved. If it ever does fail its worth taking apart to fix it. Just because…...

Madison: you made the right choice. She won't likely remember but you always will. Plus happy wife happy life right.

You are right, she probably won't remember except subconsciously maybe but I had fun with her when she wasn't crying! Plus my wife apologized as I have been wanting to go to this one sale since the beginning of the week and she knew I wanted to go but instead I took the baby for the morning. None the less I'm working around the house now so I'm like others, just looking at pictures of other people's scores!!!

You aren't kidding, I lived in West Texas for 27 years and I was one of those pedal to the metal type driver!!!

When I came up here to Pennsylvania 5 yrs ago I had to change my driving habit but the wife says I still drive too damn fast! LOL

Hit 2 sales yesterday. Got these at the first.

GS%20150320-1.jpg

Goodrich made Riv-Nut tools. Looks like 3 different sizes. $8.00

Second sale I had to dig...got filthy. Nothing was organized. Sale company was clearing the whole place out.

GS%20150320-2.jpg

The long punches are Starrett. Combo wrenches are marked "MF" Not sure of who made them, but they feel nice. Also got a 4'x20' roll of vinyl runner for tool box liners. This was my favorite find

GS%20150320-3.jpg

Yankee driver 1/4" drive socket adapter. Never saw one in the wild before.

The guy was a machinist at IBM. Turns out he and his wife were also Schindler's Jews. He learned his trade as a kid in Poland and it kept him alive thru the war. Kinda weird how what we take as a "hobby" was that critical to one man's survival.

Here is his mark on the Dumore grinder.

Oh, a free Honda mower definitely *****.

Short list, all the drive bys were dead, and only three got me anything at all, and not a single real tool... :dunno:

It did seem to be "Five dollar day" as that was what each stop cost me...

Pic one and one half of pic two: A Duffel I got for camping. I'm gradually getting all my normal "day to day" Camp gear that fit well into duffles like this. The are easy to find, move, load, and generally pack well without having to "get creative" on the Tetris aspect of packing odd sized objects... I can even soak them down with Scotchguard if I want to to make them less likely to get completely soaked for casual water contact.

The second item was that Clip belt pouch for 2 Gov. 45 clips, which I'm reasonably certain is WWII vintage

The MHB 22 edition was from another stop.

And one of my later stops, a near full box of black cable ties, and three "Cable "Wraptors" , These seem better made than most I've seem and certainly better than the ones I brought home from cleaning out may Dad's place last year. I like the Same deal - $5....

NY, is that a grinder, or an electric eraser? If the latter, it should be pretty old! I can't recall ever seeing one with a toggle. They usually have a momentary switch for thumb/finger use where you grip it.

I saw but passed on a Machinists Practical Guide if not identical, very similar to the one you picked up.

It is a Dumore Grinder - Think industrial dremel. The same people that make the tool post grinders. It has a 1/8" and 1/4" collet. Handy to have when no air is available or you don't want to wait for the tank to fill.

Pics 1 & 2--Front and back of three saws.

Top keyhole saw is made by E. C. Atkins & Co. of Indianapolis Indiana.

Middle saw by Disston & Son's marked USA. Has missing section on one side of handle and can't read the etching information on blade. However, suspect that it might be a Disston 95 with a portion of the bakelite handle missing on one side.

Third saw shown at bottom is Disston Philadelphia and can't make out the etching information on saw blade.

Pics 3 & 4--Front and back of hatchet/hammers

Top is a marked E. C. Simmons Keen Kutter that I believe is a Tommy Axe--Style Claw Hatchet with nail puller.

Next is a Vaughn 20 oz 999L hammer

Next is a Blue Point BP12A 12 oz hammer

Last or bottom hammer has no name found on it.

Pics 5 & 6--Front back of the squares

The larger Carpenter/Framer Square is 24"x16" and made by The Riverside Tool Co--Model 3B--Celebrated Blue Seal--New York

The smaller square is 12"x8" and made by Eagle Square Mfg Co of South Shaftsbury VT
