I pick up about half my tools and stuff from garage sales. The other half from Craigslist. Been a busy week on craigslist picked up tonight this 3/4 inch set. The box is Williams, most sockets are wright, a few proto. The ratchet is proto, breaker bar and extensions are P&C the swivel is snap-on. It was $60

I got rained out from work yesterday , seen a lil garage sale sign on my way back home. Decided to pull in even though it was raining cats and dogs and maybe some livestock.... under a plastic covered table was this lil gem for .10 cents. I gave them a quarter, they didn't have change yet :)

It's pat date may 7 1895, put in service 11 - 29 by the CB&Q railroad. Chicago, Burlington & Quincy. It didn't have the key with it or I'd gave them another quarter :D

Oh for those that never seen one, It's a telegraph sounder. ...The receiver end. The key is the sender

my snap on find from an estate sale this morning. when I got there, there were about 20 or so people in front of me. at least 10 headed for the garage. they all passed up the tools to go for the lawn equipment . so this is what I wound up with, all snap on and all 3/8" dr. the price was nice and cheap.

I was able to stop at one sale this morning while running the dog back and forth to the vet (still in progress, nothing serious).

I spent $12 for :
a toilet snake
2 - NIB 16oz mops
2 - rattail brushes (1 NIB)
and a 3-step pulley

A 7 oz Blue Grass hammer and Snap On aviation snips.

Don't know why these small vises keep popping up but his one is in nice condition.

And finally, a Greenlee draw knife that appears to have never been used.

Hit yard sales on Friday (6-5-2015) and got following:

Cleveland Taps in 3/8-16, 3/8-24 and 5/8-11 sizes, including red plastic cases.

Chuck keys a Jacobs K4, two T-6, Jacobs 32 series and a small TB-1

A tool that I bought because it looked like a caliper, but when got dirt/grease off of it, it said "Patent Pending--The Art Tool Mfg Co of Cleveland Ohio" See close ups of the front and back on pic 2 and 3. If anyone has any info on the company or the tool, would appreciate the information as I haven't come across anything in my searches.

Craftsman ball pein hammer and believe number on it is 38475-24oz with fiberglass handle

Plumb Fiberglass handle hammer

Couple cans of PB Blaster, some electrical tape, duct tape and wide packing tape.

Pic 4 is one of a two bottle decanter pump set with carrying tray. I got the first one cleaned and operational, so others are in soapy water to help get years of cigarette grime off of them. Learned a bit about how these work in putting the one pictured, back together.

No yard sales but I got a couple of nice scores at my favorite used tool store.

1st, a Lufkin 299A back plunger indicator set in wood box. Indicator is a little sticky and there are some extra bits in there that don't belong, but the height gage attachment bar is a very nice color case hardened finish and overall everything is in good shape.

2nd, is one of the smallest hammers I've seen. Marked EE &Co on one side and 3 oz on the other. Head is approx 2" long by 11/16 in diameter looks to be made of bronze or copper. 8" oal. Anyone know anything about this? I'm guessing for jeweler or tool maker use. Where was it made?

Indicator set was $10 hammer $1

Got a Duro 3/4" Breaker bar and unknown swivel attachment (USA made, though) for it at the Habitat restore for $13 today. Makes my 1/2" breaker bar with swivel look like a toy!

Looks similar to "dancing legs calipers. But they don't come to a point and not sure what the attachment is.

steed andersen:

With your info on it being automotive related (i.e. piston ring groove cleaner), did find that The Art Tool Mfg Co was located in 1929 at 332 Lakeside Avenue West in Cleveland OH, per an advertisement on another automotive tool they made in August 1929 of Popular Mechanics.

Thanks for your help and Outlaw's confirmation on it as well.

My wife is having a garage sale today. The baby clothes, toys, maternity stuff, kitchen gadgets, and pointless knick knacks are selling like hot cakes. The vises, Kennedy chest, canoe, mower, tractor implements, camping gear, etc that I contributed haven't even garnered a second glance from anybody. :dunno:

But I did score a 1 HP Craftsman block grinder at a sale down the road. It's dated 12/65 and came with a light, both eye shields, tool rests, and a quench tray. I think it still has one of the original wheels on it. Other than a little bit of rust on the sheetmetal cover and some yellowing on the eye shields it's pristine. I was happy to hand over $30 and run. :3gears:

Today was mainly a bust. Early rain caused most sales to cancel.
Only found one with tools.

Morse Twist Drill number drill folding index. Even still has the pin that holds it closed!

Guy wanted near or full retail for almost everything, but I dug this stuff out of a bin he hadn't sorted yet.
Got it all for $7.

Oh, and I forgot the best deal I Have ever seen! A broken 50" plasma TV that did not work at all for the low, low price of $250! :headscrat:wtf:

After striking out on tools for the longest, the best pick yet ended up being 4 doors down from my house.

Prices were all over the place. Too much on some hand tools, and really good deals on other stuff.

Makita hp2010n. Well used, but still in good shape with all the pieces.

15%2B-%2B1

Small Fulton 5130 vise.

15%2B-%2B2

15%2B-%2B1

$20 total.

Good deal, especially if the jack works. Pretty sure those are a re-badge of the ever so common walker units. I missed out on a semi clean one the other day for $20 :(

at least 10 headed for the garage. they all passed up the tools to go for the lawn equipment .

I love when that happens!

Blue Frog I see some suckage in those prices.

topop101 you stole that cool little device!

Here are today's flea market finds. I've been falling behind on my garage sale posts. I think because I've just been buying too much and getting overwhelmed. :shocking:

Picture 1- everything was $38 from one vendor

Picture 2- all for $13 from one vendor

I was a bit amused by the ratchet with the Chinese writing :wtf: so I took it. It has a great big MADE IN CHINA on the back.

Thanks, lots more helpful info available when searching Walkers. It's been holding up the rear end of my Jeep a couple of hours now and hasn't settled any yet. It doesn't have much throw when jacking up under load. Low fluid level maybe?

1 Lufkin folding rule , 1 Master Rule sliding stick , 1 Ideal rivet press , 1 hand dolly , 2 old partial cans of J & J Paste wax , 1 Nichols file , 1908 pat date Will B. Lane UNIQUE Ratchet and socket set.... missing one socket and the leather case... but hey it's a 100 + years old and damn cool . 1 Stanley Bailey No. 8 plane  2 No. 5 Stanley Bailey planes. 1 Craftsman No. 5 plane and 1 Stanley plane with the price tag still on the tote from Payless Cashways for 3.49

Not a bad haul. A good week for planes I guess. Stuff didn't come cheap though. 122.00 for every thing. But the No. 8 Stanley Bailey should cover my day once restored. Had fun and met some really great folks. That part is priceless .

I planned on going to 3 big sales today, but a CL seller had been stringing my along all week and I had to stay home waiting for him to call me with a time to meet this morning. I went to 2 of the sales a a few TOO's later, but if there was anything good, I missed out.

With the CL purchase, I ended up spending $322.50 for only 4 items. This might be a record for me.

A TOO yielded a metal Marlboro sign (1992) for $12. (pic 1)

One sale yielded a Luther #93 3-1/4"jaw clamp vise for $10. (pic 2)

and another sale only had a pair 4" Utica #47 cutters for 50¢. (pic 3).

(I'll post the big CL buy in my next post)
