I hit a flea and some yard sales, most of it was junk. Only got 2 things. #1 not pictured is an SK Wayne 3/8 and 7/16 doe wrench for 25 cents. Pictured is #2, a Proto Professional #5465 extension, 1/2 drive, 36" long. This was $7 and yes I talked down from $10. Looks new. Weighs 4-5 lbs lol

Just picked up the tools at a yard sale today. Ratchet, extensions, handles and most of the sockets are wright USA. The 1 inch socket and the phillips are Williams. If anybody does what that tool is in the front that is also a Wright please let me know. Paid $10.00 for the lot. Also, I would be interested in thoughts or knowledge about the vise. Picked that up at a flea market shop yesterday. I'm thinking I may have paid too much. I posted more pics of that on "the vises of garage journal" but go no love in the way of replies. Thanks.

And now, the CL score -

I emailed the seller on wednesday, but he didn't get back to me until friday morning. He was originally asking $250 and I said I'd pay it no matter the condition of the item, but he decided that enough people were interested in the item that he wanted to entertain bids. WTF ?!? Now it's an auction !?! :wtf:

I hate sellers like that. I emailed him back and explained my opinion of how things were going in a roundabout friendly way (I refrained from voicing my true thoughts on his character). And in the end, I agreed to pay an extra $50. He then said that he'd get back to me about when on Sat. morning we could meet. Then ............ nothing. I emailed him again on Sat. at 7am and didn't hear back. So I called him after 9am, and had to leave a message on the answering machine. Meanwhile, I was missing out on 3 sales I wanted to check out early.

Finally, at 9:30a he calls me back and we agree to meet at his house at 11:30. Just enough time to run to 2 sales, late, and get back to pick up my trailer and meet up.

This guy was really flaky. He knew I was coming at 11:30, and when I get there on time, he's out at the back of the property mowing a field. His wife had to go all the way out there to get him while I waited in the driveway.

I had parked on the street (because I never pull in with a trailer until I know the layout so I can get out again). I asked if I could pull up to the barn to load up, and he said "no, we'll push it out [all the way] to the street and load there" (with cars whizzing by). Fine, I had just handed him a wad of cash, he can strain his back if he wants. I didn't touch it until we reached the ramp.

So, what was all the fuss about ?

A Swisher tow behind yard vacuum !
Model # LV5537
w/ a 5.5hp Briggs & Stratton INTEK 206 motor

I only paid $300.

I suspect that other potential buyers might have backed out because he didn't tell anyone (until he turned it into an auction) that even though it runs on the first pull, the float dumps all the gas in the tank on the ground. (it should be an easy fix, but most people wouldn't necessarily know that, or know how). A new float and pin should solve the problem. While I'm in there I'll change out the fuel lines as well.

Once I hook this baby up to the bagger arm on my mower (no bagger), I'll finally be able to clean up the leaves from last fall ! :lol_hitti

I've been keeping an eye out for one of these that I could afford for almost 6yrs.
(I had the manual downloaded and the bagger arm ordered 10min after I first emailed him on wednesday.)

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Lobo, does the unknown too fit in the hole on the handle of the breaker bar? If not it's probably a sliding t handle minus the drive plug.

LOBO I think the thing in front is the handle out of a sliding "T" bar for a the socket set. The socket adapter is missing. The vise is a beat up 4" wilton from the late 60's if I remember right... too many number in my head... They have been great flipper for me, but yours is missing jaws, and has big flippin chunks out of the anvil pad. Might check out the vise repair thread and see if you can either find jaws or part it out to save another. Up to you ... Here's one I just sold. The swivel base was destroyed , Could have used yours 6 weeks ago :) but I did ok regardless.

Dave and Topop, thanks. Actually, i have the the adapter for that handle. Didn't know what it was so thanks for the info. I have the jaws for the vise, they're soaking in evaporust. But one of the pipe jaws is missing. Topop, you're vise looks good. I'll be using mine. It seems to operate quite well.

I got a really late start today but still got a few good deals.
IMG_20150606_152639380_HDR.jpg

Kia key fob was $2, and the Dewalt grinder needs a new cord but was only $8.
Everything else was free!

If anyone wants the Dewalt drill they can have it. It's 14.4v and worthless to me.

Hi guys this is basically my first garage sale tool finds i didn't do nearly as well as you guys i don't know how you do it. The sales that had all the good tools way way overpriced and the smaller sales with a few tools i got good deals on but nothing too exiting but i do usually go on Saturdays the last day of sales.

The first two pics i got all of those for 50% off since it way the last day the jack stand were $5 and everything in the second pic was $2. There was a young girl there taking all the tools before me i think for her boyfriend so i got what was left. The 3rd pic just two screwdrivers one proto screwdriver and one ace stubby both usa made and under $1. The last sale i got misc Hong Kong mini wrenches and one long socket extension light surface rust. The rest of the tools were treated like **** and half broken this is all i could save. So all together i got everything for under $10 but i am not happy can anyone give me pointers on how to get to the good sales thanks.

Going to take a couple of posts for today's saves. Lots O' pics as I wound up buying a tub half full of stuff. Some I couldn't care less about but buying the whole tub was cheaper than buying them individually.More on hat later.

I went to a couple of early opening yard sales and got this stuff - 12V cargo light 4 bungee loops, 2 K&N crankcase filters, but these could also be used on small engines for intake; all for $4; A Proto Ignition wrench for a quarter, and an antenna for another quarter.

attachment.php

2 Proto 1-1/4" Combos, and 2 packs of brass hinges. -$5

attachment.php

At a Grade school FM for $5 - a cool old (CT? = Cincinnati tool? ) bar clamp, 2 Cincinnati C clamps, a Bostich Staple puller, a Tire hammer head, And Vise Grip 10LB Nut grips, and a Clamp on vise:
attachment.php

A brand new 2 gallon Hudson Sprayer for $7. This one becomes a mini project. Some of you have seen my "shower tanks" I use for camping. this will be a smaller "self contained" tank as it has the pump built in I'n replace that wand with some copper tubing and add a small shower had and valve on it. the pickup hose will be cut short and connected to a barbed fitting on the other end of the copper tube. Fill with water, pump it up adn voila! running water. 2 gallons should be good for an overnight-er or picnicks.

Here is the Tub from the second FM at the local High school:

Here is the contents as I got them:

And the primary items I was chasing were these Button making Dies when he said that most things were a buck each or I could have the whole box for $25. I wasn't interested at $25, so he dropped it to $20 and after looking at my pile I finally agreed:

More to come for the rest of what was in the box...

I have a jaw if you want it...I think? but usually the stops for the jaw are broken and allows the pipe jaws to collapse

Nice bar clamp. Interested in more about your mini-shower. I picked up a similar spray tank that I'd like to re-pupose.

I used to use a garden sprayer for showering when I lived on my boat. Easy and low water use.

Great score on a #8 Stanley Bailey plane to topop101

As to my yard sales on Saturday, they pale in comparison to what I see others pulling in today.

Pic 1 & 2

However, did get a lightweight 24 ft aluminum extension ladder with standoff's and pair of booties on extension. Made by Eag-L-Line Model 91124-2. Needed to get it, as daughter has 2 story home where trim needs painted this summer.

Pic 3 is a axe, maul and post hole digger. If you look close, you will see I need to be painting that door sometime this summer.

Pic 4 is a worn comfortable Wrangler Jean Jacket and a Delta double robe hook that I need to install in a rental.

I got a crown top craftsman 1/4 drive socket set. New never been on a bolt. They are the "v" series. It even has the little bar that goes into the breaker bar.
Another 1/4 drive ratchet circle U series. It has lost its selector. 1/2 drive proto ratchet and a Williams extension.
At another sale I got a little snap on box, it has adaptors to pressurize cylinders to check leak down. Paid a dollar for the snap on box and **.00 for the craftsman stuff.

I would like it if you have one. Not sure how they go in but it does not look like anything is broken off. There are like two little studs on the inside that I presumed the jaws clipped into. You probably know better then me. But yeah I would be interested.

More on the shower tanks later, however I would NO use a tank that had been used for pesticides or fertilizers... (I did reuse on that was for cleaning solution as I figure SOAP will clean out completely...)

The rest of the Tub Tools:

A fair number of Wrenches. So who knows what a 41mm Open would be useful for? :dunno: and there were 2 of the pin spanners, of different sizes... (I found #2 after the pic)

attachment.php

Sockets (2 Craftsman As set of Husky USA, and a few Taiwan), An 80 ft lb torque stick, Bits, files and rasp, Plumb Hammer, tapes, & chalk lines

attachment.php

Upholstery mostly; the staple gun is a cheal POS. adn probably uses desk staples.

attachment.php

Drivers, agian a bunck oif chicom not shown adn most al on the right are giveaways, to those that might need them.

attachment.php

Cutters, compound Wiss shears, pruners, wood chisels etc. Cheap staple puller, NOS Spark Plug gap gauge.

attachment.php

Lots of Pliers; some were Chicom and went into the "sell this **** cheap at the next yard sale" bin. Two of the strippers are Klein adn Amp, others are decent to good.

Nick,

You've been around here long enough to know the rules - no pics, didn't happen.:):):)

Oh, it happened alright:

IMG_0184_zpsocw2xpwb.jpg

As I mentioned my wife was having a garage sale this morning. I'd promised to stick around and help out and I was true to my word, at least until I heard about a "huge tool sale" a few miles away. I got there right after they opened and the sale was a joke, a few yard tools laying outside the garage and inside they a couple of card tables set up with some worn out pliers, a caulk gun, some plumbing and electrical fixtures, etc. Maybe the guy running the sale noticed that I looked disappointed because he said "if you see anything else in the garage that looks interesting just ask, I might be willing to sell". I looked around and at first I didn't see much of interest. Then I looked over toward a workbench and there it was, bathed in the light of the sun that had just broken through the clouds and was shining through the only window in the place- a 1 hp block grinder. I was afraid to ask the seller if he'd part with it because I knew he'd just laugh and I'd be crushed. But I mustered all my courage and, in a querelous voice I asked, "would you be willing to sell your grinder?" The seller instantly replied "sure, $30, but you have to unbolt it from the bench". No problem, I would have happily chewed the bolts off with my teeth at that price.

Apologies for the bad picture, I just ran out to my shop to snap it and it's getting dark out there. The flash on my camera makes it look a bit rough, it's actually very clean and once I wiped all the sawdust off of it (it was mounted near a RAS) I found that the original paint is even in nice shape. There's just a little surface rust in spots on the center band. I may repaint or I just may keep it as is. The first thing I did was let it spool up to full speed and then shut it off and time how long it took to stop. 109 seconds...

I picked these up from a sale yesterday, a Goldenrod, a Rainbow, and a no-name:

<a href="http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/Nick7661/media/IMG_0188_zpseiygmban.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah270/Nick7661/IMG_0188_zpseiygmban.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0188_zpseiygmban.jpg"/></a>
I always grab old oil cans when I can, the old ones are so much better than the current crop. By the way, this picture reminds me, anybody know what those things are clipped to the rack on the front of my box (just below the oil cans)? They came in a treasure chest I picked up at an estate sale last winter. There are 2 magnetic racks of 24 clips each. The clips look like this:
<a href="http://s1382.photobucket.com/user/Nick7661/media/IMG_0189_zpsctodz5y1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah270/Nick7661/IMG_0189_zpsctodz5y1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0189_zpsctodz5y1.jpg"/></a>

I can't figure out what they might be for. There are a variety of colors and they don't seem to grip with enough force to be of much good. The clips and racks don't have any kind of markings on them beyond the little caricature of the clip that you can see in the picture above. The only thing I can come up with is that maybe they are for temporarily marking cables or tubing? Anybody recognize these things?

After taking care of a few things this morning, my sons and I were able to stop by three sales. The first was a dud, the second was an estate sale with a jamb packed garage, but the prices were only OK, so I restrained myself and spent only a few bucks. The last stop made the day from becoming a complete bust.

I spotted this industrial parts rack off on the corner of the driveway and immediately started trying to come up with a good reason to buy it. I am a sucker for these old, industrial, storage pieces, but I feel I have to come up with some potential use in order to justify buying them.

Well, it didn't take long for me to come up with a solution that was good enough for me...Lego storage for my sons! Now, I will never step on a Lego block during the night in their room or on the stairs! OK, maybe a wishfull dream, but now they can organize their Legos like we organize our shops.
image_zpstflenjrz.jpg

The gentleman selling it also tossed in a box full of bolts, nuts, washers, and screws.
image.jpg1_zpskrkb9kjw.jpg

I felt pretty happy spending $50 for it. Once we got home, we immediately washed all the trays and the frame, and now my sons are fastidiously arranging their Lego collection!

Items from an online auction. $45.00 with a lot more not pictured.

Estwing hatchet and maul. Both have burn damage to the leather handle.

Couple of Craftsman planes - neither has been used - original grind on the blade.

Three try squares and an Incra 45 degree tool.

Some cutters - linoleum, Craftsman, Wiss, pruning, and a vintage one.

Chain vise Grips and a Craftsman copper tubing bender.

Finally, a tool with no name, and based on how it performs, with no use whatsoever.

Yep it has a DIN No. on it.

I installed some whole hide wringers from Italy in a tannery . All the tools that came with it looked identical . So my guess is your wrench came as a kit with some machine from the EU. Just a big ol service wrench

Went to a garage sale this morning and picked up this brand new looking gray tools open end wrench set for 2$ and got some snap on sockets for 1.50$ and a random titanic pocket knife a2f700daefde4bb54999993ed61e8ccd.jpg

Wrench set has sizes: 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 11/16, 3/4, missing 5/8

Snap on sockets: 12pt 3/8, 6pt 9mm, 6pt 9/16

That Titanic pocket knife is too cool.

I love when that happens!

Blue Frog I see some suckage in those prices.

topop101 you stole that cool little device!

Here are today's flea market finds. I've been falling behind on my garage sale posts. I think because I've just been buying too much and getting overwhelmed. :shocking:

Picture 1- everything was $38 from one vendor

Picture 2- all for $13 from one vendor

I was a bit amused by the ratchet with the Chinese writing :wtf: so I took it. It has a great big MADE IN CHINA on the back.

3Bay,

Nice pick-up on the Vulcan torx. I have not seen those around before. A little clean up and those will be ready to be put to work.

I started the day by getting up early to be at a 0930 sale ( I got there 3 hours early ) I was hoping to get a Snap On tool box, however two other guys had the same thought and was there before me. There was a Delta table saw they wanted $250 for it I said Ill check back later. I went back before the end of the day and the saw was still there. I offered $100 and took it home. It has a router table , Unifence and mobile base.

Items from an online auction. $45.00 with a lot more not pictured.

Snipped

Finally, a tool with no name, and based on how it performs, with no use whatsoever.

It looks like a ratchet that operates by turning the T handle. I would think that it could have a use....just not by me. Of course having said that I could probably use it tomorrow.

Or of course I could be completely wrong. :dunno:

I had one of those t handled ratchets. It was the poorest tool I have ever used. I never finished removing the nut. The ratchet kept falling apart! I kid you not, I spent more time putting it together than using it. I tossed it in the can.

Thanks for the tip. Looks as if it will save me a lot of frustration.

I think those were called Sidewinder ratchets and I vaguely recall a TV infomercial for them 25+ years ago. I'd just started working on cars and wanted one desperately. Guess I didn't miss out on too much.

That's a beautiful saw setup for only $100. Looks like they cared for it well and kept it clean or just never used. I think you got a great deal.

Phenomenal price for that setup. In fact a you **** price. The Unifence alone is worth it.

Thanks, I didn't even want it ( I already have a Unisaw ) But I ended up going to about 8 sales during the day and found nothing so I was in need of a fix. I really couldn't believe it was still there by the time I returned.

A lot of local town wide sales Friday and Saturday but mostly kids stuff it seemed. Was still able to sniff out some decent stuff though.

Partial Snap-On 3/8" drive ferret socket set. Speeder suggest it is from like 1948. I have quite a few miscellaneous pieces floating around so hopefully I can fill out the set better. Found less than a mile from home, go figure. $12.

Indestro Super Screwdriver, Snap-on pick & torx driver and Mac metric wrench. $7

Simond Saw and Steel bit case. Thought it was cool since the one old factory is on the other side of town.

Lisle/Jeepers Lo-Boy creeper stool which was a need $7
