Today's offerings (part 2) -

This is from the first sale of the day. It was in a really old house. The front of the house may have been built in the mid-late 1600's. The rest of the house looked like it was built in the early-mid 1700's. (yes, I'm aware that to our european friends this isn't that old, but in North America it's ancient and really cool )

Just like the second sale that I posted about, this first sale was high priced on the first day and there were no discounts.

I ended up spending $53.50 at this one for :

Pony Kerf Keeper (in box)
Grip-Tite magnetic holder
Boyne saw gauge
golf tool
dental pick
1962 Stanley Catalog (I'll eventually try to post it over at VM if it isn't already there)
EDIT - Wouldn't you know it, the ONLY Stanley catalog in VM's library is the same 1962 one I was going to upload. I guess I don't need to scan it now.
2 Craftsman c-clamps
Paper Fastener tin (with some fasteners)
Lufkin Rule Co. 6' SAE/Metric tape

3 20" Pony "wagon wheel" 1/2" pipe clamps (didn't want more pipe clamps, but they are just too cool to leave behind)

I found the next items buried in a cabinet. There originally were 6, but they would only sell me 4. I'll post the description in another well read thread later. But in the meantime, let's see if you can guess what they are.

Picked up a few things this morning at a sale
the hammers are D, Maydole ( the smaller one ), Philadelphia tool company is the other. A big Channel lock, Craftsman ( made in the USA ) and this anvil vise which I know nothing about. I paid $20 for it all.

Yes cowboy that cap will work, I normally find the china made ones for a quarter, and take the caps off, I seam to find a lot of them missing the cap. I have not found another brand that would not work on them and the craftsman ones...

Worked for a guy today who was setting up for a sale, we got first dibs on everything he had. I ended up with these. He told me $15, but I gave him $30, felt for $15 I was ripping him off. All USA, except for two of them.



Anybody know what brand this is? There is a 5/8" wrench in the end hole on it. I know I have seen the logo before, but can't place it.

I went to one sale this morning and came out with only a 6" Lufkin combo square with center-finder head. It was the only reasonably-priced tool in the entire lot occupying a room in the basement. I've never seen so many over-priced tools. The most insane was a Delta 14" bandsaw with an open base and 3/4 HP motor for $3200.00. Yes, I told the dealer to have the person who researched and priced that tool to do his work over!

Todays haul, all from the same very nice guy "Rich".
Baldor 7" grinder complete with water cup, tray, cast pedestal, etc., Jet disc/belt sander, Porter Cable Industrial 7" grinder, Sioux corded offset drill. All items are like brand new. Seriously this stuff looks and runs as though it was lightly used maybe a couple of times.

Total? <$1000

Calling for pics of the house!

Didn't have my camera with me. From the outside, it looks like a normal New England Colonial. From the inside, you can see it's a "second period" 17th century layout with 2 rooms over 2 and the shared hearth stack and narrow stairs in the middle with a similar narrow walk-up to the attic that has a batten door hiding the stairs. The hand-hewn Summer beams had been "modernized" sometime in the past. Probably when the 18th century addition was built.

Went to an AUCTION today at a construction company/machine shop that had been closed since 1990. The company was founded in the 1940's and no one had been in it since it closed in 1990. It was like a time capsule. Most things went cheap. If I would have had the room, I could have bought a tractor trailer load of heavy equipment parts, storage organizers/cabinets/shelving, etc.

Picture 1: All parts organizers for 75 dollars. They are all full of nuts, bolts, etc.

Picture 2: Bolt Bin and cabinet with contents for 30 dollars. Cabinet had a lot of NOS borg-warner parts in it.

Picture 3: All wrenches/etc for 40 dollars. Wrenches are Proto and Wright. Largest is 2-3/16"

Picture 4: All contents for 20 dollars. Includes Model 107 SKil Saw Cummins sign, 40" long tap handle, 3" Wilton 300 Vise, and various scrap.

Picture 5: Wilton 300 Vise.

Picture 6: 5" Reed 3C Vise for 80 dollars. That is one heavy vise.

Picture 7: Two drawer cabinet for 5 dollars. Cabinet is in better condition than it looks, just needs sandblasted and painted. Been looking for a small cabinet like this for some time now.

Not shown is a pickup load of NOS heavy equipment air filters for 10 dollars.

Sunny day out on Friday (6/12/15), with more garage sales than I could get to during the time I had to spend.

First pic is a manual volume, oil or transfer pump made by Alemite. Pump still works, but hose that came with it had a couple holes in it.

Second pic looks like a tin oiler with spout and a cap lid below. Pic three shows underneath it and that's what has me puzzled. Any ideas on what it was used for?

Fourth pic shows an aluminum with probably another metal splitting wedge made by Dixie Logging Tool Co.

Fifth pic is the second Johnson Bar I've purchased in the last 3 weeks. Made by Hamilton and 6 ft long version

Sixth pic is a vintage Cooler Chest with Eskimo

Seventh pic is a 6 ft bookcase, that will end up with my daughter at her home after doing some tweaking to it.

No, both the 3/8" Ratchet and the Breaker are "Herbrand"

All of the hand tools were in the Dayton box. The box also has some long spade bits for wood working which is what I really wanted. He threw in the whole box for $10.

Mike - Could that oiler have been used on trains or heavy equipment ? It looks to me that the hole on the bottom would be to sit the oiler on a peg to keep it from shifting while the machine is moving.

Mike, that aluminum wedge is probably for keeping the gap from closing while using a chain saw or two man saw.

Wrench Guy, they made similar Gear oil pumps like that; but your right. what is on the hose? a Gear oil pump typically had a "hook tube" for ease of use and a hole in the top for when not in use. (To drain the hook nozzle)

Thanks cowboy, I created an account with Brownells to order a cap but with $7.95 S/H .....I don't think so (as you know....I'm a cheap ***)

Gear oil pumps also use that length handle and a larger piston i'm sure to move more oil. The top of the pump where the actuating rod is looks large for grease.

Mike In the second pic Is the oil can tin or copper.? Can't tell with all the "patina" but the joints look lead soldered

Yeah that will be a good one. Plenty of good things from the pictures and the list. Avoid anything that says "tool shop" or "performax" unless you can get it obscenely cheap. The rototiller will fly out of there on invisible wings.

I'd be all over this sale too. Don't get caught up in the frenzy though. There will no doubt be a fair amount of people after the same stuff as you so you'll have to pick and choose through what you can because you won't get it all.

And to echo what Outlawmws said: if the prices are too high and they won't move on them, walk away. There will always be another of something at another place and another time and at a better price.

The only story on the oiler I got was that it was left in the garage by previous owner.

However, another buyer at sale did pick up a small lantern that could have been railroad.

I like your idea on hole on bottom of oiler being used to store it and think you are right.

Do have info and pics over to my Dad, who worked and retired from B&O and C&O, so will be interested in what he says on it as well.

The tag on the Alemite is pretty bad. So far, only see what I think are the numbers 606223.

As to the hose, I have one pic that I'll attach, but if you need more, just let me know. Connections on hose may have been altered, as fellow I bought them from was a plumber.

It's the real deal on being antique.

My kids grew up with old furniture that I rescued/refinished and they all like having it around them today in their own homes. I'm glad they have that appreciation of the old (i.e. including me!!!)
