Okay, I missed one last item from today's purchases: a cool, old school Justrite headlamp, powered by four D cells in a belt-mounted battery pack.

With a new elastic head strap, it'll be sweet on a fall Boy Scout outing.

Gentlemen, thank you. I chalk it up to good luck and a target rich environment around Boston. Well, that and going to sales every weekend.

That said, I will be taking one of those hypothetical breaks we occasionally hear folks talk about. I am officially calling "Uncle". I now own three band saws, two table saws, three drill presses, a dozen locking pliers of various manufacturers, a tool box drawer overflowing with DBE wrenches, a workbench full of things either listed on E-bay or that need to go on it, and as of today, I have only one car in my three car garage due to no places yet to put this weekend's acquisitions. Not to mention the hole it blew in my wallet. I have a heavy-duty 12" metal lathe that I really don't know how to use yet, as well as welding equipment I'm not very good with, and a long list of projects and home improvement ideas that are not getting done.

Like the boa constrictor, I need time to digest, rest and eliminate. I need time to actually use the cool tools I'm piling up in there. Hell, my Mustang's been sitting for three weeks, because it's easier to go buy stuff than it is to finish installing the top. This hobby of estate sale-ing is really fun and more than a little addicting. I may resume it again in the future. Maybe when I actually get my woodshop built. Or get retired.

Meanwhile, I'll live vicariously through the rest of you. As I said, it's a target rich environment out there. You all can and will find some pretty cool stuff.

It's better to go out with a bang than a fizzle, you sure went out with a bang!! Great job and don't give up entirely, just be more picky about what sales are actually worth going to as opposed to working on your list.

congrats again!

Thanks, Nine. It has been fun and I've learned a ton from all of you and my online research about old tools. I'll still follow the thread and try to share what I've learned.

Cheers!

Hit up the flea market yesterday morning. Nothing much there as usual but one guy always has decent tools and I've been meaning to get to 'know him'. But this stuff for 30$, overpayment for sure but he isn't much of a bargainer from what I gather and maybe I'll eventually be able to break him.

7 Snap-On 3/8 sockets, including two identical 1/4" ones, oops.
Snap-On F 710-D 3/8 ratchet, good shape and works well.

And this little German made clamp vise. If anyone has any info on it go ahead, I don't have anything. I thought it was kind of cool and I bought it in part to save it from being restored, the guy buys all the vises he can find and paints them all in Record blue, I thought this one deserved better.

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I see them for around $20-30 often. Just don't have the room for them! Also i'm looking for another one but I'm being picky as like I said, I don't have the room for multiples! LOL

I just Bought the workmate and this craftsman sabre saw for $50. I need a folding workstation to bring outside to grind and this is perfect. I'm tired of using a sawhorse and clamping a board on it.

Dear Blue Bomber, as a spokesperson for the Northeast Garage Sales Pickers Association (NGSPA) I would like to say good riddance to a NGSPA Hall of Famer  You have been a pain-in-the-*** to many of us who ply the pickers trade. So many times we have heard at the hallowed Northeast tag sales the murmered cursing 'Blue Bomber got here already' of 'that ******* Blue Bomber has already been here' as we rooted through cans of rusty washers and used nails!

Shhhh....can you hear that??? That light tapping sound? That's Jake dancing in his basement, thrilled at the prospect of not having to compete with you anymore.:rocker:

Although I have not had any direct confrontations with you Blue Bomber, they were going to become inevitable as Veeps keeps pushing me north to better hunting grounds, much like the plains Indians of the early west as they went farther afield in search of Buffalo.

As a going away present the NGSPA would like to send you the following items to assist you in your dotage:

1.) Lifetime subscription to eBay with a permanent ban on buying.
2.) A Craigs List Lifetime achievement award
3.) The last three seasons of the reality shows 'Hoarders' and 'Intervention'.
And lastly:
4.) A 2 month gift certificate for a 'Pickers, Mommy and Me' therapeutic encounter session. Some of the subjects covered will be 'Do You Really Need That Wrench', 'Can't you get that Cheaper at Harbor Freight' and the wives FAVORITE 'Why Do We Suddenly Have So Much Money In The Bank Honey'

In Conclusion, Good Bye, Good Riddance and don't let the door hit you in the wallet on the way out!:lol_hitti:beer::thumbup::FIREdevil:bow::bubbrubb:

Well you're going out with a bang. Good time of year to take a break. If you really need help cleaning out some room, I can be up there in the morning with a truck. I won't charge you anything to load it up with tools. :)

I think i scored a great deal yesterday. If a chainsaw counts, i think i came out smelling like roses. I picked up a dirty, but very solid Stihl 029 with all of the original decals. Should clean up nicely, and it fired on the first pull. Best part.... I paid a whole fifty dollar bill for it :) The guy that had it used to trim trees until he hurt himself, so he said he was clearing out some of his tools. He told me to make an offer, so i threw out 50, knowing i was wayyyyy under its value.. but it was all i had on me... and he took it. He also had a Hitachi mitre saw and a newish looking black and decker firestorm mitre saw. I didn't buy either of them, because i was now broke, and also because I'd rather have something older. Anyways, here is my score (the bar looks small due to the angle, but it is an 18").uploadfromtaptalk1441059867940.jpg

old plumb bob
Fairmount automotive wrench
Blue Bird battery post pliers
10" old Husky 1/2" extension
2 pair of K-D snap ring pliers-inners and outters

If you have room left in the drawer, you don't have too many. If you don't have any room left in the drawer, you just need a bigger drawer.

I generally don't post about all finds, just point out the ones I think, Damn I wish that was me!!! LOL

As for the vise, if it still works then so be it, but I shy away from ones with welds on them.

I try and stick to things I'll use more than collect so I grabbed the vise thinking it's better than the 3" Reed I have at home. It looks fine if it works I'm happy. Hopefully not a big deal.

I went back to the same sale the next day because it was 50% off. I was looking again just to see if I could see anything else. I remember a box of taps for $20 and I figured for $10 I'll take them. Probably 20-30 in there. So I grabbed them since they were still there. Noticed a coffee can with what looked like puller parts inside. One part had the old school snappy logo on it so I looked further. Found 4 jaws with the "CJ" part number and the bar they attach to. I'm trying to build a puller board set so I bought the coffee can and it's contents. Ended up with some proto jaws too in the bottom, battery terminal puller and hub puller that looks well used. I'm just happy to get more pieces for my puller set.

Also found some grinder discs in Makita boxes with Japanese writing on one side and english on the other. $1 each so I grabbed them.

LOL! What a great send off! I don't deserve most of that larger-than-life stuff, but that was hilarious. Even SWMBO was laughing.

Good luck to you Joe. Come on up north, there's plenty of picking for everyone!

Found a handful of combination wrenches at the flea market the past few weekends. All in the range of $1 to $1.50 a piece from a few different sellers and bundles. I'm just trying to put together a few wrench sets on a budget with good old USA steel.

Proto 1212 3/8" Los Angeles
Proto 1214 7/16" Los Angeles
Proto 1218 9/16"

Mac CW16 1/2" newer style
Mac CL18 9/16" long pattern Sabina Ohio
Mac CW26 13/16" Sabina Ohio

Craftsman VA 7/8"
Craftsman V 1-1/16"
Lectrolite 15/16"

I absolutely love the fit, finish, and feel of the old Proto wrenches and will be keeping a close eye out for more of these old beauties.

Had a great time picking tools at the flea market on Sunday. Got some neat stuff. Total spent was $64 on everything.

pic 1-2:
Craftsman 1/4-inch electric drill, cost $10. Works great! Model is 315.7730, I can't find a manual online for it, but I have a 1950 Craftsman catalog with it listed in there. I love these old metal-housing power tools....

pic 3:
Wrenches and stuff - Lectrolite DBE, pair of Controlled Steel DOEs, couple no-name DOEs, a box of NOS General Electric bulbs, and a pair of Utica pliers

pic 4:
Stanley "Handiman" 8-inch adjustable wrench, a Billings & Spencer Model 97 bicycle wrench (my first), a MAC 3/4" combo, a pair of no-name "S" wrenches, and 7 other no-name antique DOEs.

pic 5:
Pair of New Britain small ignition wrenches, pair of Proto screwdrivers, an Xcelite screwdriver with removable shaft, Wright combo wrench, Diamond crimpers of some type, oil can, JP Daniels angled pliers and a small tapered hammer marked "Bell System". First Bell System hammer of this type I've found...

pic 6:
Mixed lot of 12 Craftsman wrenches, including 1 old long-C Craftsman combo. Also a Craftsman punch.

pic 7:
Lots of sockets. About 56 of them, most are Craftsman, some Husky and Kobalt, and K-D, Klein, Penncraft, and Thorsen. All are USA made.

Piker, only 120...

you better get back to the yard and estate sailing... :see:

(counting ALL forms of clamping devices... 110+72+230... = 412 (at least) :p

A year ago, stopped at a yard sale and bought an oak ice box. Had the usual 4 coats of paint, including couple of coats of paint over the original zinc interior.

What was amazing was the paper factory tag was still intact on back, so knew it was a Seeger made in St. Paul Minn and Model #30.

My wife has wanted one for years, but either price or condition kept me from buying.

Finally got it finished, so wanted to share with the group and used several tools and items from yard sales, to get it done.
