With school having started I figured the sales wouldn't look all that great this weekend but I have two promising listings on Kijiji.

The first is the guy I ripped off for 25$ the other week, I'll glady give him his money and hopefully buy a few more things.

The other is advertised as a couple downsizing out of a 50-year home and it advertises hand tools and man stuff.

The number of yard sales were down on Friday (9/11/2015), but did get a case of Delco concentrated windshield washer fluid. Mix two bottles of the concentrate with water (distilled or ionized recommended) and it gives you a gallon that will keep up to a minus 28 degrees freezing point.

Also bought three walnut 2-3/4" wood handles with a cone back and metal connectors on two of them (i.e. the third one was missing the metal connector).

The only mark on any of the pieces was a five pointed star on one of the metal brackets, as seen in Pic 2

If anyone knows what they were originally used for, would appreciate hearing.

Mike

I picked up this set at a garage sale last weekend. I just finally got around to cleaning it up and organizing it. Cost a whopping 60 bucks. Even that was kinda steep compared to the Logan lathe for 75.

I haven't been to successful as of late with any sales but I did find a Wilton pattern makers vise, a Morgan wood vise, a Dewalt orbital sander and about 200 rounds of 12ga and 20a for $100.

Went to a Auction preview and spotted this stand, had no lt number on it. Asked the guy, " that was supposed to go in the scrap bin, how about a donation to our tip jar" $ 10.00 later is was mine.
I was just starting to gather parts to build one, what timing for a change.
It's nice and stout, weighs about 40 lbs.

Traveling this week for work and had a spare half hour in Midwest City, OK. Stopped at a neighborhood garage sale that included a custom Harley motorcycle for $10k. [emoji50] There was also a fair amount of Snap-on and Craftsman at high market prices. Since I'm trying to cut back [emoji6] , I walked away with just an S-K combo wrench from the 50 cent bin.

I had three stops today, inbetween running back home to check on my mother. The third stop was the furthest, and in a town that's laid out like a rabbit warren. It turned out to be a wasted trip.

The first stop didn't have much worth looking at. I decided on taking a chance on an 8x8 pop up shelter for $15. It turned out that the frame had some broken/bent pieces, but the cover is still good. I can make it work until something better comes around. For another $3 I picked up an unlabeled 12" 40T carbide saw blade w/1' arbor hole. (pics 1&2, $18 total)

The second stop was a little better, but I got there late, so I don't know what I missed. For $21.50 I picked up (pics 3-6) -

8 boxes of Kleenex and 2 pads of paper for 50¢ each
a plastic vial of brass pins
Small brass plated Anvil
Klein #44-100 utility knife
SnapOn TM-70B 1/4dr 20tooth ratchet (unknown date)
King **** single feeler gauge (unmarked size)
SK #40990 1/4dr universal socket joint
SnapOn #OEX-240 3/4" short combo wrench (1951)
SnapOn #OEX-120 3/8" combo wrench (1948)

NIB (almost) Peterson Vise-Grip #10WR w/paperwork "With NEW Easy Release"

Well, I did say that, and I am not doing the three-sales, out-the-door-at-6am-every-Saturday thing again for a long time. But I sold my Power King drill press last weekend for >2x what I paid for it, so I figured a 2 bit wrench was okay.

Targets laid out for tomorrow. Best thing I have seen so far is a round top "mailbox" Craftsman block grinder with the large water tray and two NICE metal and glass eyeshields. Wish me luck!

Got the Craftsman block grinder! 1/3 HP with pretty good metal/glass eye shields and the large water tray. Runs OK but needs the grinding wheel shimmed, it's rubbing. Got the old GM door lube "crayon" at the same sale. $40 total.

Other things I found today is a bag of sockets with some nice Plomb and a few Snap-On too. At the same sale I got the Craftsman 50' tape measure, S-K 3/8" drive ratchet, old USA made trash can and Resolve to get my greasy garage clothes clean LOL. $11 total.

Picked up a working Harbor Freight pancake compressor for a friend for $5.

And last but definitely not least got this Ideal 55 chest cooler done up as Coca Cola for $195. Needs a little work but will hopefully make a good beer cooler!

At last, my life is complete!
...well, one small corner of my Penncraft collection is probably complete.
I've always been a combo fan, but I had a couple of ratty old DOE's that I found handy to have hanging on the woodworking workbench. Don't need them often, but it save a trip to the garage. So, I started keeping my eyes open and several garage sales, estate sales, flea markets and eBay forays later, I've manage to get the complete set... probably.
The eight wrenches cover 1/4" to 1" by sixteenths, plus the useless oddballs 19/32 and 25/32. That's a complete set in my book.
The part numbers may tell a different story. They run 3517 to 3528, skipping 3519, 3521 3523 and 3524. I've not seen any reference to these missing part numbers, so I don't know whether they ever existed. If they do, I want 'em! :lol_hitti

Went to about 10 sales today and got nothing. One sale did have tools but nothing worth my time. A broken blacksmith vise and a really small open screw vise but I didn't bother. Of course the huge anvil sitting in the floor wasn't for sale. Oh well.

I was on my way to Autozone to drop off some used oil and stopped in on a garage sale advertising tools from a wood worker. It was a piddling small pile, but that's all I need right now. I walked away with a bag of hose clamps for a saw dust collection system, which will go nicely with the one I bought two weeks ago. And another tape measure, because despite buying at least a half dozen at estate sales over the last six months, I still find myself looking around my garage in the middle of a project saying "Where the h-double-hockey-sticks is a g-d tape measure!?!?"

Total price was $5.

I have also started picking up tape measures at the sales. I've found that the older Lufkins and such are great tapes. At a couple bucks or really next to nothing whe you have a pile, it's the way to go.
I'm building a stock pile, some day we're going to run out of of this good USA stuff.

Lets hope the USA stuff comes back to our shores. Look at Tekton trying to make there tools back on our shores. I have given up on HF and the chicom tools pretty much and trying my best to go all USA made stuff.

Good finds rolling in guys! Well done!

Quick trip today: barely an hour. 6 stops including a small HS Flea.

First up was the Dagger Scabbard for a buck. The Flea got me the grinder wheel star & washer truing tool for Two. I liked that is was an unusual pattern compared to the ones you usually see. Also at the Flea was the 1/4" Thorsen set, and the hex drive bit set $8.

A yard sale yielded an old wood Ammo box, and a Coleman 530 B46 WWII era single burner for $5 ea. that is the second one of those Coleman's I've picked up in the past two weeks.

The ammo box had some "junk" in it, and it was an all or nothing deal so pics of that stuff, but included were some IBM specialty tools - No clue what they are for.

attachment.php

The box is very well made, finger joints, the top & bottom is tongue and groove, and steel reinforcements.

This mornings planned stops were a bust but the unplanned stops yielded some finds.

Anyone recognize this anvil? The seller claimed he bought it used 25 years ago. Rebound is really good (est 75-80%) and it's not a cast iron Vulcan. It weighs 70 lbs and he was firm at $50:

Lady claims she only used this trimmer 4-5 times then decided to hire out her landscaping. $30.

One sale today and it was a good one. I got a pretty good variety of stuff. Some early Snap ON 5/8 drive sockets and extension, some Plomb, Proto, and a bunch of lathe tooling. Also scored a ton of big tapered drill bits in MT2 and MT1. Paid 50 bucks for everything pictured.

Fourth place I ended up buying stuff had a lot of stuff. If you didn't know better you'd have tought the owners were retired Canadian Tire store owners. In reality the man's father (90 yo) just moved into a nursing home and I guess he just couldn't resist a deal and ended up buying multiples of everything. Seemed like he had 5x everything, and a lot of it was still new in packaging, unfortunately most of it was made in japan and or china MasterCraft or other cheap brands. Did end up paying 30$ for the stuff below. Pricing was also all over the place for stuff, they clearly had no idea of what most they had. He was asking 10$ for the MasterCraft branded 10" vice grips and 6$ for the 10$ Petersen ones...heh. Ended up giving him a few pointers on my way out.

Taiwan made SAE and metric nut drivers (1$ each set, don't have full sets at present so this will do until I upgrade)
5WR Vice Grips 2$
Craftsman Canada #0 #2 #3 Robertson .50$ each
Craftsman USA 9-piece allen key set 1$
Bunch of Craftsman Canada screwdrivers 5$
Fuller 905 Canada screwdriver .50$
8R Vice Grips 10$
Klein Lineman pliers 1$
Gray Canada 8" and 6" adjustable 5$ each
Snap-On 71-M ratchet 5$

The prices are what he had on them. I gave him 30$, I dug the Snap-On ratchet out of the mountain of stuff he still hadn't sorted through in the garage. He said they might be having another sale in a few weeks, I'll be there. Probably had another 15 set of various USA made vice grips, bunch of other screwdrivers and other stuff. He also had some beautiful handmade carpenter boxes but I just didn't know what to offer for them. I should have taken picture, it's ridiculous the amount of new in box stuff the old man had. Oh, he also had 3 Beach hand carry boxes that he offered me for 10$. I don't know how I managed to refuse that, but I did. I think SWMBO would have killed me, but she doesn't need to know right?

With school having started I figured the sales wouldn't look all that great this weekend but I have two promising listings on Kijiji.

The first is the guy I ripped off for 25$ the other week, I'll glady give him his money and hopefully buy a few more things.

The other is advertised as a couple downsizing out of a 50-year home and it advertises hand tools and man stuff.

Today was a good day. Only bought at one place but it made me feel a lot better. That big bunch of stuff up there I said I paid 30$ for, turns out I had only given the guy 5$ for the Snap-On ratchet and had never paid him for my original lot. So today he had a sale and I ended up giving him the 25$ I had owed from last month. He had no idea but was really thankful, the tools were all his fathers and the money he makes from the sale goes to his parents who now live in an old folks home. Good dead done for today.

First things I grabbed after giving him the 25$ and explaining were the Klein pliers and the two small USA C-clamps (no maker on them). He said to take them since I had come back to pay for my stuff :)

Also ended up grabbing, for another 10$, the 6LN and 6R Vise Grips, and the two big C-clamps. The black one is a Hargrave Cincinnati Tool Co. and the red one is an Armstrong. He had 21$ in price tags on the lot and agreed to 10$.

Other stop I had planned for today turned out to be the older guy just selling his junk and none of his good stuff. Stopped at another few sales that didn't yield anything either.

I visited one estate sale yesterday and bought three items for $650.00. I couldn't get them home until today, so here's the pics.

1. Titan Industrial Generator, 8500 watts, remote start, never used.

2. Transfer switch for the generator - NIB

3. Craftsman Grinder on stand - really bought for the stand as I was looking for something to put my 974 onto. I'll flip the grinder.

When I went to pick up the items above today, I noticed the Mac Tool box for 1/2 price, or $40.00, so I got it also.

Finally, I spied this tool and picked it up for $10.00

I don't know if any of this is gloatable, but Mama is happy to have the prospect of a generator in case we loose power this winter, so if Mama is happy, I'm happy!

After deciding not to go to any garage sales, I stopped at a junk store instead. [emoji15]
First pick was a crappy machinist chest with random junk in it and no front. But I have a use for it. Closely followed by a Mac tools double flaring set. $7 & $5 respectively. Then on the way out I saw a set of card file drawers. $25. What about the shelves they are sitting on? Another $5. At least it all fitted in the shop and didn't take any extra space due to re-organization. Oh and the file card drawers had a bunch of good actual files in them along with a 15" Rigid pipe wrench. [emoji106] Here are a few pictures.

The shelves are about 36x36x18 and the card file just about fits the top.

Great grab on the stove Outlaw..

Hit one sale today. Didn't even stop coming back from the store when I saw the sign pointing down a side road. But I ended up turning around and going back. The fact that I really should be getting rid of stuff seems to be of no deterrence to me. :)

I bought this Craftsman tool box. It looks kind of crusty, but actually it's really solid and the drawers work fine. I spent all of 20 seconds looking in it, and handed the guy his asking price of 20 bucks.

What a smogasbord of tools. Still haven't gone through all of them, but to give you an idea the wrenches in the one pic are all different brands. The sockets consist of some Japanese and Tawain brands I have to check out, S-K, Craftman and some Chinese ****. Some files, gauges, a brass hammer( I believe) and other assorted stuff. :eyecrazy:

A neat old 1/4 Craftsman ratchet and an old Ford box wrench were a surprise.

All told counting the box, it ended up being 52 lbs of tools. :wtf:

The box I'm going to give it a quick do-over and use it in my Jeep.

Today was a washout - on and off rain and T-storms in the area, so there wasn't much in the way of flea markets or yard sales. However, did stop at a couple indoor flea markets and antique/junk stores and saved a couple things...

pic 1:
Coleman lantern, model 228F, complete and in good shape except needs a new set of mantles. Few spots of light rust, but the globe is uncracked and it's dated 12/1971. $12 for this gem.

pic 2:
Craftsman miter box, with saw (Cromwell brand, not Cman). $10 is a little steep, but it's in real nice shape.

pic 3-4:
Craftsman circular saw, 7-inch 1.25 HP. Barely used. Model 315.11802, made in USA (!!!). Cost was $25, also a little steep but like I said, barely used and a new saw from Cman wouldn't be near the quality.

pic 5-6:
Craftsman 1950s magnetic scroll saw, model 110.27501. This is the 2nd one I've ever seen of this model in as many months. Missing a couple parts, but I can take this one and combine it with the 1st one I found and make a complete unit. Cost for this one was $4.

For my fellow New Englanders who might be curious... wife wanted to hit up Brimfield Flea in search of furniture, so we made the trek out. I've had some random luck with good tool deals in the past, most of the time in the form of "take the box and everything in it for $25". No such luck this year, in fact prices for tools were through the roof, at least the stuff I was looking at. There were a couple random, out of the way vendors that had decent prices, but nothing earth shattering. With all the hype Brimfield has around it at this point, it's to be expected. I was putting a small stack together out of one guys stash - little stuff, combination square, center punch, some other random incidentals. Weekend garage sale price, we're talking $20... $30 max. When I ask him for a price, he's in the hundreds before the chuckle can escape my lips. Needless to say I was out of there quickly. More power to him if he can get the scratch he was asking, but I did hear from a couple vendors that that it was a slow week. Anyway, if you're wondering if you missed anything, from my experience, you didn't.

Thanks for the report. I had actually considered going, but decided against it. now I don't feel like I missed anything.

In my opinion, Brimfield today sure isn't what Brimfield was 15-20 years ago.

I only had one planned stop today, and then decided to go to up to a Flea market to pass more time.

I'll get back to the sale, but the FM is one that I normally don't like going to. Usually it's a waist of time and I hate the $1 admission charge, but occasionally I get lucky. Today was one of those days. I have a compressor, and a table saw that I have to run wiring for, but have delayed because I want to put in a lockable cut-off switch on the line. I just don't like the look of the new ones and used ones are selling for near new prices as far as I'm concerned.

Today I found two Wadsworth 30A enclosed switches for $5 each. :bounce:
At that price I might be able to buy new guts and convert them to non-fusible units. One of the units has a burned fuse lug, but it can be salvaged if needed. I'm one step closer to getting the compressor and table saw done. (pics 1&2 - $10)

The first stop was an estate sale that was the only listing in my target zone worth leaving the house for, but only just. The tools turned out to be the usual assortment of future recyclable chinese exports, but I grabbed a few things and went in to check out the house.

Pic 3 - $10 (but there's a reason why I paid it )

Cordmatic #500-G trouble/work light
2 full cans of Rustoleum
____Hammered Silver
____Hammered Black

OK, here's why I paid a Hamilton for the above. After being disappointed in the garage, I decided to check out the house with the expectation that I'd be disappointed in the basement. Not so. After wandering around dodging the crowd, and finding nothing, I took a look at a pile of books that I had passed several times. No-one was even looking at this pile of books on some kind of stand. Which makes sense, it was all junk.

And then ..................... I took a look at the "stand" that the books were hiding ...........................................

Looking good guys! Jake- nice find on the vise grips!
Grail21-
I wonder if that's the older guy I ran into in Cape Cod some years ago. He had all antique woodworking tools and wanted $40 for a common Williams ball peen hammer that would sell for under $10 here!

Anyway I pulled out some of the better finds from the flea market guys. I have two boxes to go through so may post up more when I get to them.

As always sorry about my picture taking.

Snap On Blue mini screwdriver/pick set -$25
