Rockwell Delta Homecraft 8-1/2" Disc Sander, barely used or artfully restored, but missing the miter gauge. I wtb one to fit but can't post in the classifieds yet. Not a brand stickler, but vintage and all metal is a must.

Daiwa 1000c reel, early 80s, mostly metal, on a similar vintage barely used US-made graphite rod.

Daiwa AG750 reel, late 80s, mostly plastic, on a well-used Fenwick 149 rod. Turned over to a collector friend for a tidy 5X markup.

Fenwick Lunkerstik 1455, well used. Got rid of it too, same deal.

Smith's 4-pc sharpening set for fisherman, new in the package.

A buck apiece.

So I went to follow up on an ad I saw on CL for some tools. The guys father in law had died and he was a plumber. The picture showed some good stuff and some stuff that was potentially junk. I thought it was worth a drive to check it out.

When I showed up in the neighborhood I figured I was going to score big or I was going to walk away with nothing judging by the houses. I had to stop and take a picture of one.

The guy had a ton of chinese junk and a good bit of stuff that was decent. I went through it all and picked out what I wanted. I took all the snap on wrenches, all the craftsman sockets, all the Klein pliers, some proto stuff and anything else that I recognized as being decent. I took a few torx drivers and some extra screwdrivers just because. I also grabbed a couple pipe cutters and a box of set screws. Also found a neat oil filter wrench and grabbed a hose cutter and a hacksaw as well.

As I was looking to settle up with him he asked me about the turbotorch which I had no idea about (I started a separate thread on that) but looked online and felt like I needed to take it.

On my way out he offered me this chainsaw (cheap he says) and I asked if it ran. He said it did but doesn't know. I know these things are pretty low end but I don't have a chainsaw and he offered it to me for $20 bucks so I grabbed it.

I paid him another $40 for all the tools and $80 for the torch since I figured the bottle was worth at least half that. $140 total. More than I was looking to spend and by far not the best tool deal I've gotten lately but I think I did okay.

Here is the rest of what I grabbed.

Dude, you paid 25 cents each for quality hand tools and got a chain saw for 20 bucks. You ****!

It's hard to tell from the pics how much of each brand you have, but if you put the Snap-on stuff on Ebay, you could make back your purchase price pretty quick. Ebayers love them some Snappy.

I don't know if the torch was a good deal for you, but it's good to have one!

So yesterday I was holding out. I went to an auction and bought. 2 lots. First was a bunch of loupes that will mostly become gifts. 2nd was a fowling piece from early 1800's. In truth this was my only reason for attending. I won't discuss what I paid but it was more than my usual budget. However it appraises at better than $2000 in current condition, and if I were to put it up for sale the profit would be substantial. The mechanism and possibly the whole gun was made by Henry Deringer. The barrel is 43.5" long.

So here are a couple of pics.

Really nice long gun you found there. Very reminiscent of guns made in Pennsylvania or the Ohio Valley area. Short fore stock compared to Kentucky Rifles. What's the caliber? Look very close on the very top of the barrel for any engraving by the rifle maker. Many small rifle smiths engraved their names and the year of manufacture on top of the barrel. Lots of smaller family operations would buy their barrels and lock sets from a manufacturer and then hand make everything else and fit it all together. I have one made by Edward Bates of the Ohio Valley made in 1861. His family were gunsmiths for many years.

Cool piece!

What makes it a fowler? Lots of smoothbore muskets that shot ball back then.

if early 1800's, I'd guess its either a very early percussion cap gun, or possibly was converted from Flintlock? :dunno:

Thanks. It is primarily the barrel length that makes it a fowling piece. Keeping the shot tighter. The thickness of the barrel at the muzzle is also relatively thin. There's plenty of meat around the breach though. It could shoot a ball and should be relatively accurate for a smooth bore. I believe it was always a percussion cap.

I have to do some cleaning and lubing before I make the decision wether or not to shoot it. Due to the rarity and value it will never see a full charge even if I do shoot it.

Nice pick-ups 3bay

The Plomb puller in a wood box no less is really nice . It looks ancient, any idea of the age ?

The third photo, the green driver looks like it has a female square drive in the end? Any name on it ? it looks similiar to ones I picked up awhile back.

Thanks WNYflyer. I think I need some help with a date on this thing. Not sure I understand the code system.Definitely does look ancient, lol. Stamps are 4C and 5B. Maybe 1934-1935.

I was super excited when I found it in a crate of old junk and did my best not to show it. It was early in the morning, I found it while the seller was unpacking and it hadn't hit the table yet. He was a loudmouth and being real harsh in talking to the customers about other items. I couldn't imagine what he wanted for this thing. Right off the bat he hit me with $50 so I hit him with $10:lol: ! He went :spit: and walked away but he was doing that to everyone on everything! We went back an forth a minute while I looked it over and I said what's your bottom. $30 so I bought it. I don't think I could have left it for $50 though.

Good eye on the green driver. It's a clutch head Kent Moore KM-167-4, came with a Snap On Octo clutch driver. Has the female end like you said.

I acquired this bee-utiful 1940s Dunlap scroll saw tonight from Bobcat, who needed to make some room in his garage. Since I sold off my Craftsman bandsaw, I figured I could give it a home.

Check out how nice this saw is. I believe the paint is original, as is the Sunlight Motors 1/4 hp electric motor. Bobcat burnished up the cutting table until it shines. I don't have any immediate need for a scroll saw, but I'm proud to have this seasoned old tool in my garage. I may just sit out in the garage with a soda and look at it.

Today's haul....

20150916_210752.jpg

L.S. Starrett #13C double square w/hardened blade....this is after it came out of a vinegar bath. It was extremely rusted but cleaned up pretty good.
20150916_210803.jpg

63 rounds of 22LR roundnose leadheads and a Snap-On GSDD2 like new screwdriver......this is Snap-On's industrial finish line and the shaft looked (to me) to be rusted.....So....I wire brushed it! :D I didn't know it was 'post to look like that....but it's shiny now! ;)
20150916_210814.jpg

Nice heavy-duty set of helping hands (lucky find cause I've got some soldering coming up)
20150916_210831.jpg

Two Drildex numbered drill indexes with is few bits
20150916_210852.jpg

Vintage aluminum VW badge

I realized I didn't sufficiently thank Bobcat for passing this good deal on to a fellow GJer. Thanks a bunch, BC!

Oh by the way, BC is a recent graduate of welding school with his own truck full of welding equipment. If anyone in the Boston area needs to fuse two pieces of metal or knows someone who does, shoot him a PM!

Picked up my first STANLEY VIDMAR 9 drawer cabinet last night for 100 dollars off craigslist last night. No dents and all the drawers and slides work great. It has some minor rust, but mostly it just very dirty and greasy.

I went to an estate sale this morning hoping to score a Kennedy 3-drawer roller. I want a 29", but it was only 27". The box was in good condition, but they were firm at $180. That included the tools (there were some good body working tools in the drawers). It wasn't a bad deal, but I just couldn't spend that much and they wouldn't sell just the box or any of the tools separately.

It was pretty much a wasted trip but I did find a P.S. STUBS jewelers handvise for $4, but that was all I walked away with.

It’s been about 6 weeks since I’ve been able to get out to some garage sales. I think I did pretty good.
First some ratchets, an S-K 3/8 dr roto, S-K Frankenstein and a ¼ =V= craftsman. All three are near mint
Next a couple 4” adj wrenches, a Proto and a Proto LA and a pair of Proto ignition pliers
Then a few combo’s, Snap On 7/16 OEX-140, ½ OSH 16, Proto 3/8 1212-LH & Proto 11/32 1211
And a couple Fairmount DBE’s 13/16 x ¾ offset and a ¾ x 5/8
A few Mac 12pt combo’s 9/16, 11/16 & 13/16 they need some clean up
Finally a Snap On #87 diagonal cutters that also need a cleaning

Just a couple yard sales here on Thursday, but while out, got a call from a yard sales friend who spotted a Craftsman Vise on a stand at one of the sales that I was heading to. Hit the yard sale just after he left and it was still there. It was a Craftsman No. 391-5188 and after getting home and cleaning it up, confirmed it was Made in Japan.

That is a fine looking piece of equipment isn't it? Yes Sir, I think I would be lounging in the shop and just admiring it myself for a spell.
