Pick up from an on-line auction - haven't seen anything like this before.

Top is 1/4" steel plate - sides are 1/8" steelplate - 8" rollers.

My late father would say that this cart is as ugly as homemade sin.

It's heavy, but easily moved on the large wheels.

You my friend win. I don't know what, but that's one badass cart!

Oh, I don't know about that - I've made some pretty good looking homemade sin in my time.

With a new paint job (maybe some pinstripping) that will be a nice looking sinner.

Dang all I have to show is this tiny pick at a pawn shop, but the two items on the left are Snap-on...

The good thing though, is that it's only Friday.

Love those Wiltons!

Today was some good old yard sailing. Normally I'm more for estate sales and flea markets but I love looking for tools anywhere!

The morning was nearly a bust. Drove up and down one street for a listed sale that didn't exist. Looked for another nearby sale but the signs must have been old. Another two sales had some guy stuff but nothing interesting.

Hit one estate sale and wanted to buy a nice wood cabinet, but this time the whole house had that pet "odor" if you know what I mean. Made me sad thinking what must have happened there and I didn't think it was worth the risk buying. Oh well. :dunno:

Another sale was all tools. Most were too newish/contractor type to really get me going though. The man wanted a very laughable $2000 for his set of 3 small Craftsman stack boxes with mostly screwdrivers and loose Craftsman sockets, lots of no name China/Taiwan stuff. :headshake.

Did find some nice odds n ends there and his individual prices weren't bad. I offered $7 on the Snap On ratchet with extension that was skipping all over the place. Ended up needing just a good clean and lube and works great now.

Sorry guys I'm a bit long winded here.

Ratchet+ Extension -$7
Craftsman Clench Wrench Set- $5
Palm Grip Socket Driver 1/4" drive with 3/8" female square in the handle,Snap On angle wrench ,Mac pick -all for $2

Common industrial maintenance type cart. They come in slightly different configurations, but have the same basics. Doors over the drawers, no drawer slides, can really take a beating. More often than not the vise is permanently attached to the top.

I found this ad looking up Columbian vises, Trenton anvils are in the corner:

http://scuttle.dayid.org/wiki/images/2/29/1926PittsburgAutoAd.jpg

Shadow, that's cool, a penny per pound for the anvils. I think I have two of the vises listed on there too.
Thanks for posting.
I'm going to print that ad and hang in my shop.
Edit- the pricing is 1/2 to .15 cents/lb over base price. No base price is listed. I paid $ .40 /lb. assuming 100 lbs. Who would of thought back then these would be worth much more 100 years or so later.

I really have been laying off the estate sales, and am moving a lot (okay, some) of my stuff on Ebay. I had no plans to go picking this weekend until SWMBO texted me at work Friday saying "Town-wide yard sale tomorrow. Buy me a caffeinated beverage and we'll call it a date!" Who could say no to that?!

First few stops were tool-less, but we bought a few books and other household items. However, persistence paid off on the last cul-de-sac of the day:

OTC T73T-1200-A Front Wheel hub driver set, complete in case: $3

Disston & Sons 24" hand saw, circa 1896-1917: $2

Dunlap 7/8 x 13/16 12-pt DBE 25¢
Dunlap 5/8 x 9/16 12-pt DBE 25¢
Stanley hand plane 50¢

Blackhawk 4219 9/16 x 9/16 double socket wrench - this has a 6-pt socket on one end and a 4-pt socket on the other end
12 vintage sockets, including several S over O Snap-on 1/2"-drive, Walden, Walden-Worcester, Bog Mfg and Long-C Craftsman
Indestro autokit style wrench, 3/4" x 5/8"
Total price: $8

Last stop was at least a hundred feet of tables with standard yard sale debris, but I found the one tool in the bunch. The guy didn't know how to get the blades in, but after I showed him how, he let me have it for $15.
Milwaukee orbital Sawzall, mdl 6520-21, w/ case and a dozen blades. Case is missing one buckle.

Under $30 for tools, and I got to spend the morning with my better half (priceless).

No sales for me this weekend. I'm spending my tool money on going to the Revolution game at Gillette tonight. It's just as well, the listings for this weekend were slim to begin with. Still, that itch was pretty hard to resist this morning.

and I missed this find from last week. Only markings I found so far are in 2nd picture. Everything seems to work.

I forgot to show that this is a mechanical (ratcheting?) type of floor jack. See new pictures. Anyone have any info on manufacturers or specs?

thanks

Decent morning run; Only 5 planned stops though. I'll be up in the mountains again next weekend and possibly the following one.

First stop (unplanned) a Yoga mat for SWMBO to replace the on our oldest daughter "borrowed" for a class; A buck, appears unused:

attachment.php

Second stop first planned, and the big score for the day: lots of reloading stuff and supplies here, I passed on a lot of it.

Two powder measures; the Redding is identical to the one I grew up using, and still use occasionally. The pistol measure came with two cylinders and a spare dispenser nozzle. The sinker molds are for 1) 6 & 8 oz egg weights; and 2) mushroom decoy anchors.

attachment.php

A Redding Case trimmer, a No. 5 shell holder, and a Wilson Case deburring tool looks to have never been unwrapped (I'd know, its the same one my dad gave me when he gave me all his other reloading gear...)

attachment.php

A NOS "long gun" sock, very old Aluminum leader case, and 100 ft (guessing) of 1" black webbin and a couple of snap buckles.

attachment.php

A MEC 20 Gauge progressive reloader, and three Ammo cans

attachment.php

And my daughter grabbed these: Work gloves in "SF Giants Colors" and the rafter hooks

Everything from Stop 2 came to 31 bucks! :bounce: :3gears: More to come!

Three stops left:

$5 for: 2 gear gauges one is a relay nice Boston gear SS version (I can't tel you how many times I could have used one of these...), A really cool tap handle, that you can lift slightly and reverse, then go again; sort of a manual ratchet without any pawls or whatnot, just an engaging spline. Pat date of 1912 - Alarm tool Co. :dunno: An Enders drift, and two small precision clamps. (not too sure of the maker on these as the name is full of paint.. Possibly "Futters" L(something) Limited?).

attachment.php

One of my Estate sale regulars: $2 for 2 Blue point DOE's, Proto driver, and LA crescent & Tappet Wrench, Utica Needle Nose Pliers, a K&E aluminum Ruller from a pharmacuticla Co., USA SS Forceps, and a Kelsey-Hays Cam Loc 3/8, and a tiny wood handle screw driver (I love these...) No name pliers I seriously didn't even realize I had them in my hand until later...

attachment.php

And the last stop; $5 for a dual fuel full size Coleman lantern. Ordinarily I need another lantern like I need a hole in the head, but I don't have a dual fuel. I'd have preferred a smaller unit however, but it's good for emergency use with the car gas option... Already tested, and it's god to go!

Spent all morning roaming neighbor sales in search of something good. I normally avoid these sales as they are full of baby clothes, books and Christmas ornaments. But my son needed to practice driving before I'll let him get his license and we had some time to kill.

Most sales were a waste of time but it was nice to spend time with my son. Here are the highlights. And he's becoming a much better driver. Over 70 miles today.

ae099681347a124eb0b52945f8b8b62b.jpg

Porter cable 6424 polisher. I need to pick up a pad which will cost more than I paid for polisher. I've been wanting a DA polisher to remove oxidation on my tool chest. $5

13082611f8fd62d883d31973d85915eb.jpg

Black and decker 3052 worm drive saw. $20. Did need to replace two orings to stop oil leaking.

348e1ceb19589805c095efc6f3c71d07.jpg

$7 for the following
Ridgid 205 cutter
KD hose pliers
Starrett 12" calipers
Starrett 15cm rule
Starrett and craftsman center punches (spring loaded kind)

Ended up being a pretty productive day even though the first sale I hit was one of those "oh someone bought all the tools at 7:00 am" ahh wasn't the sale supposed to start at 9:00 ? of course the goal of the seller is to get rid of the stuff anyway they can but I don't like wasting my time either. Oh well life goes on.

Some decent picks today I think.

Challenger wrench set. I have never seen a purely Challenger wrench set before but I have seen the Challenger by Proto wrench sets. This one looks like from the Penens days ? at least from looking at Alloy-Artifacts the wrenches shout Penens. The wrenches themselves are only stamped "Made in the USA" $3

IMG_0767_zpsa1tlx5es.jpg

Vulcan/Williams short metric combo's $15

IMG_0769_zpsf5djzlmw.jpg

Kennedy box $5

Hinsdale empty socket box

Is the outside of the Hinsdale bx as nice as the inside? that's an old box.

Outlawmws, the outside of the box has a lot of scrape marks and loss of paint and thus associated rust. Not too bad for the age but nowhere as good as the interior. Any idea on the age ? I know nothing about Hinsdale but bought it because the emblems/interior where in such good shape

AA has quite a bit on Hinsdale. An early leader in socket tools they were too late on the forged socket bandwagon and lost their market share, I think in the 20's or so. About when Snap On and SK ramped up IIR.

What an absolutely horrible start to garage sales today. There was one street in my town with about 12 sales going on. Example-everything was at or above retail, I kid you not. One guy wanted $100 for a roof rack for my car. He said the kit to make it fit was only $80. No tools on this street whatsoever, I felt like I was in the twilight zone.

Anyway, took my son to a birthday party at noon, decided to stop at a sale in that town that had advertised tools. Jackpot! Will post pics in the morning, by the time I got home tonight it was already dark, didnt get a chance to snap some photos.

Not garage sale... But Friday I went over to a friend of my best friend's place to help swap the engine in my friend's truck, and this fellows dad was about to throw away a box full of miscellaneous sockets! There are plenty of no-name Taiwan and Japanese made ones, but about half the box was old US made craftsman, snap on, and SK. Found one plumb and one Cornwell too. I've nearly pieced together two full deep well sets of US made stuff and 1 shallow set

The boy need more driving time on his learner's permit, so we targeted a pair of sales that required him to drive through a New England city. For those of you who know Lowell, Mass, I need say no more. He did okay.

I did okay on the last day of a four day yard sale. All of this came out of a tub of oily, pig-piled hand tools for $10

Bonney 10" curved adjustable - the sliding jaw is frozen, so it'll go into the Evaporust bucket for a good soak
Billings 8" adjustable
Proto 4" adjustable
Crane square nut SBE, 28827 with a faint "JF" logo cast in
Early Ford slip joint pliers with some original green paint still visible
Utica battery terminal pliers - been looking for a pair of these for a while
Harrold brand pliers - a new brand for me
Gripso brand locking pliers - another brand for my collection
P&C DBE, 1-1/8" x 1-1/16"
Barcalo Buffalo DBE, 5/8" x 9/16"
Half of an Eclipse DBE 3/4" with the 11/16" end cut off - actually thought this was an SBE by how cleanly the cut was made and dressed

We made our way out of the city northeast into Methuen, allowing the boy to transition from narrow one-way streets to country two laners. The second stop was an estate sale, also on the last day of a four day sale. The dearly departed had been a career lineman, so there was the potential for some good tools. Unfortunately, most were long gone, but a little digging through randomly filled tubs yielded the following for another $10:

Klein 5104-S leather-bottom canvas bucket with 25 ft of cotton rope and a pair of Klein two-pulley hoisting hooks
Big roll of rebar wire to use in my electrolysis to replace the copper (will make Outlaw happy :) )
A partial jar of petroleum jelly for yet another way to remove rust
Mostly full bottle of blue marking chalk
Pal stainless steel fishing knife, mdl RH-51 with sheath
Wiss 10" scissors - because scissors are like tape measures: I can never find a pair when I'm looking for one
Cheapo scraper - for the same reason
Cheapo miter slide , hoped it would fit my 50s Craftsman saw table (it doesn't)
Zircon stud & wire finder

Porter cable 6424 polisher. I need to pick up a pad which will cost more than I paid for polisher. I've been wanting a DA polisher to remove oxidation on my tool chest. $5

Black and decker 3052 worm drive saw. $20. Did need to replace two orings to stop oil leaking.

You **** for the two power tool buys - especially the polisher - those are selling for $70-$120 on Ebay. Good find!

We are doomed BB is back at it again.

Relax, Dodge610, I'm only going out when other people need me to be out. If we need to build up driving time, we might as well do something productive with the road mileage.

:D

So, I will admit to still checking the on-line ads for sales and plotting for ways to get to them on the weekends. But I am resisting the urge to depart the house at dawn for multi-stop treks that fill the back of the truck.

Really, I'm much better. ;)

Ok, finally got a chance to take some pics of the items I picked up yesterday- I was hoping to find a press with the Vari-slow option, just didn't realize it would be so soon.. Only had to wait a week. Got everything below for $230. The band saw was too nice to pass up, the previous owner set up the multi-speed pulley for it.

On the press, he wired a reverse switch for it, which I think is pretty cool.

And what's in the box? A NOS column to convert the press into a floor model.

ALso picked up the Tap and Die set, Ive been waiting forever for one of these to pop up. Thanks for looking.

Not me, he's a continent and three large mountain ranges away! :D

Lots of this: :3gears: to get into my territory! [emoji14]

Where exactly is your territory, Outlaw? I haven't sifted through enough of your 17,000+ posts to figure it out. By the clues above, I'd guess Southern California?

Edit: wait, with all that gun loading stuff you just bought, it can't be Cali. New Mexico?

Besides, my job takes me all over the country - I'd treat it as a professional courtesy to let you know before I would do any picking in the territory of a legend such as yourself. :D
