First sale of the day looked promising from the photos but all the good stuff was gone. Hardly worth the 40 min drive.

i overslept but my dad went to a small garage sale they have every saturday, managed to pick up a giant tote of old tools for $5, a test rite rolling cabinet that im going to take the wheels off and just hang on the wall for $5, and a ingersoll-rand 2131a impact for $20, its a little rusty on the housing so i was wondering if i could take it off and put in the wire wheel to clean up and re paint, it worked just fine to rotate a full set of tires on 2 vehicles today and only using a old husky portable air compressor.

does anyone know anything about the sheet metal puncher? i believe it was made by rockwhitney?? it was made in rockford illinois and it can go though sheet metal with little force at all
vBWY9wb.jpg

the highlight of the haul for me was almost a full set of xcelite nut drivers, a couple proto nut drivers and lock ring pliers, a shapleighs keen cutter cresent wrench, and we've never had a impact so the IR impact is badass to have finally. the best part was after he bought it all the old man asked him if he did any mechanic work and he agreed to do a front brake job and driver side rotor replacement for him for $30, he already had the parts he just said old age caught up to him and he wasnt able to work on his durango anymore. so he basically got paid $5 to take the tools and about 45 minutes of time.

Thanks. I never know what I'll find. It's exciting to find something new. I err on the side of buying too much rather than getting home and researching something I didn't buy only to realize it was very valuable. I end up with some interesting things, but the downside is my garage is getting full!

I agree, that is some mix of tools and other goodies. What will you do with the mouthpieces?

I only picked them up since they look to be silver. A quick search on ebay shows that they have some value and that these alone will pay for the rest of the purchases. I bought them on a whim taking a chance that they may be valuable. I'll research them to figure out the vintage then list them later.

The tool with the yellow handle is commonly called a Whitney punch or a whitney jr.
They usually have a metal tin with a set of different size dies to punch different size holes
The old ones and the new ones pretty much look the same that might be a Jr. no5

Estate sale this weekend about 30 minutes from the house. Apparently, the owner has been "moving" for about 3 months. Guy comes out, says "Hi", but has to go back in for his glasses. Comes back out with no lens on the right side and a dark lens on the left. 4 building full of...well.....true junk. I did walk out with this gem

Been looking for a cart, keeping the Mac. It's nice and solid, just needs cleaning and paint. Just what I need, another project.

$70 at two different flea markets. This is picture 1, doing this on my phone only allows 1 pic at a time. I got a Chas Parker 104 vise in really good shape, just a little rusty. I got a trailer hitch. I got a pile of mostly US wrenches, only 1 Taiwan Duralast. The notables in the wrenches are two Mac knuckle savers. I also got a pile of 90% USA sockets. A few Taiwan Allen and torx sockets were mixed in. Notables in that pile were 8 Mac sockets, 2 Matco sockets, 3 swivel sockets and a 36mm SK socket. Other pics to follow....

Made for Sears/Craftsman by the J. P. Danialson Co. from mid thirties to early 40's, (about the time production for Sears was probably halted for the war effort, - Danialson was acquired by Plvmb about 1947)

Outlawmws,

Thanks for the info.

I knew the logo was older but I had no idea the adjustable wrench design was that old.

It was definitely a dirty move, one I will be ashamed of for a long time, my mom didn't raise me to pull **** like that. I think I will punish myself to a week of hard labor and no more sales this month.

Thanks outlaw, I was wondering myself of the vintage of that wrench.

That style adjustable goes way further back than that... 1891 for the current base design of an Adjustable or "Crescent" wrench - 1841 for its earliest predecessor.

Nines, I missed The Mixer Story till just now. :spit:

I bet the seller was thinking you were with the other lady...

My girl said the lady was all on him too, saying how much she wanted that mixer. He was apologizing for getting confused when my girl ran to the van with it. I really do feel bad but ....

I took the day off from working in the garage today and made a couple of calls and lined up an old barn to go picking in.
I spent over 3 hours going through boxes and unwrapping things.

This guy I saw today has spent his life collecting everything made of brass and odd tools. Did I hit the motherload today, and I didn't even make a dent in this collection. (yet)

2rogp6t.jpg

a large brass fire Extinguisher holder that mounted to an old fire truck (1930s)

n4eedu.jpg

Old 1/4 horse motor weighs a ton An old pump extinguisher and an explosion proof light from an old war ship

97jipk.jpg

Brass hose reel a revolution counter and a pair of heavy duty wire cutters (brass)

16atxjn.jpg

How's this for an old pliers collection (all cleaned up and sealed with some kind of jelly)

so7de0.jpg

Some brass equipment oilers and an 8' brass folding scale along with other tools

29az21l.jpg

Check out these brass levels still in their orig. boxes

255hqg6.jpg

And this rare old soldering iron to go with my blow torch collection.

2nh192h.jpg

How about this collection of plumb bobs and a 3' spanner wrench and a 5lb brass sledge hammer

1553q4h.jpg

And finally the last shot of the tools
A small assortment of fire nozzles.

otgspy.jpg

The big item of the day, the one thing I went after that caused the phone call was this big brass stock scale.

Great score Don -- I would say that you really cleaned up, but apparently you only put a small dent into this guy's brass collection. I'm sure you'll be returning to the scene of the crime (I know I would if I were anywhere near So. Cal., alas, I'm 3K miles away)

Nice haul, Don Long! Love the brass parts off of old fire trucks. My family used to be part of a little club of antique fire truck enthusiasts near Cincinnati, Ohio. I've spent a lot of hours riding around on cool old fire trucks, and we were always hunting for nozzles, leather helmets, speaking trumpets, brass bells, 6-volt brass sirens, brass spotlights, etc. Most old fire trucks were stripped of such items long ago, and trying to re-supply those missing parts has always been tough.

I'm a bit behind in my updates. Here's items from the 50 mile long Main To Main yard sale event a few weeks back on HWY 371 in Webster Parish.

Borden milk crate, Dunlap vise and early Mustang hubcap that is already hanging on the fence with it's brethren. $23.

Herbrand auto body tool ( I think) $5

Bought the Walgreens basket with a bunch of old tools, notables are the large International harvester wrench, right angle drive 3/8" extension that I thought was a ratchet at first, Plomb pipe wrench, BluePoint hacksaw and inverted fittings tap and die chaser set. $16

Like new Coleman cooler stand $8, Williams B-52 3/8" ratchet $2 and Leatherman Micra $3

True Temper store display stand for garden tools $5

Hit an estate sale that opened on Sunday because the owners sold the place due to divorce. Husband had cleaned out the tools but I picked up this truck toolbox that had a new come-along in it for $30, working neon beer bottle light that will need some new "decoration" for $20 and an old metal traffic light for $60. Pictured under the toolbox is 6 of 7 Coca Cola plastic boxes I picked up for $20 earlier.

After that I swung by the flea market and found the elusive Craftsman grey/red mid box. In poor but restorable shape, $60 for top and bottom and sold the bottom for $45 right away.

I was helping a friend move stuff last week with my small trailer with the long ramp on back which made it easy to load up this Lista roller cabinet for $65 that popped up on Craigslist. I included my technique for cutting the NeverRust liner from Lowes, flip the drawer upside down, lay the liner on top and cut it on the edge.

Local machine shop lost the lease on their overflow building. They were motivated to sell because anything left gets scrapped on Tuesday. My office closed early so I headed over and had about an hour to browse.

Owner gave me a tour of the facility and let me dig around in the building. His dad started the business in the 60s. I'm heading back Friday to take another look while they pull things off the shelf.

By the time I got home it was dark but I got a photo at the Wegmans parking lot which was well lit.

4b66dba5e23ce40a3eacee3d96b8b811.jpg

The fan is a 42" box fan for $20. Needs a new motor which I'll try to source. This is my biggest fan yet. Tractor supply house brand.

Then two Baldors for $50 each. Both 3/4 HP single phase on stands. 8". Grinder is a 8100WD and buffer is a 333B. Missing left nut and flanges.

a70421d61556774abbb9abc18cf3bf38.jpg

e57c5bf21be3ed9a9cc65fd8ab345838.jpg

Then I got a 9x9x1/2" 13lb piece of 17-4 stainless and 6x6x1/2" 5 lb piece of copper. $5 and $10

02b9e94015a655164f33ff8349552d35.jpg

Lufkin 4" square $5

563a119adb425e907ac179e81a75cf7f.jpg

And if you looked closely in the truck you'll see my $40 Wilton C1. My first bullet vise. I'm going to clean it up but leave it unpainted.

3035abd31403543145f11ef66b9db06c.jpg

He was also selling a 5' panel saw for $200 which I'll take another look at, and this:

3e3b373c8d31a27919dc6664560378b0.jpg

A monster 15 HP Quincy pump. It works but they upgraded and don't need it anymore. It gets scrapped soon and he isn't asking much for it but this must weigh 1/2 ton with motor and pump. I think the pump alone is 600 lb. it would be a fun one to rebuild but I'm busy on my Quincy pump from a few weeks ago and garage is nearly full. I'm not sure I could even unload this without professional help. I'm taking another look Friday. I'm kind of afraid if I make a lowball offer he'll accept and I'll be obligated to buy. At least he has a forklift. I'll let you know Friday if I take it home.

He also has a broken screw compressor for scrap price.
