While I was on the phone confirming the deal with the nice lady, I could hear her uncle in the background telling Merc to squeal like a pig, he really took one for the team and I can not thank him enough! :D

I stopped at a moving sale this morning on the way home from work. I never had any luck finding decent tools at estate or garage sales, but today I found a decent lot of random USA wrenches, one huge Wright 12 point socket, 2 Usa metal rulers, a actual Vice Grip and a metal Craftsman tool box that is exactly like my first tool box that my dad bought me when I turned 18. I'll fill this one for my son, so I can pass the tradition along.

The price for all of this, 11.00.

You both made me laugh when reading your various posts on the recent great finds.

Stopped at our local flea market (12/15/2015) and owner said he brought in some tools to sell and that I might want to look through them.

Finally a SCORE!! Palgren 8" x/y rotary table with 3" Craftsman drill press vise for $50, plus I owe Merc a delivery fee for picking it up an hour away!! I had been in touch with a lady when I saw this in the background of a CL ad for wood working tools on a drill press. After contacting her, she mentioned having 4 more bench vises(one being big) for sale as well. I asked her for pics and she sent them with model numbers this morning while I was sleeping. By the time I woke up, I saw her message saying if I wanted any of them to let her know as she had someone coming by 30-45 minutes later. I freaked the F out. :willly_nil
After researching the "big" vise I found what they go for and hit her back asking if it was damaged in any way and for more pics. I did not hear back from her and was getting worried. I was not interested in any other items but the x/y table but Merc mentioned wanting a big swivel vise so I wanted to make sure it was in good condition to grab for him. My mom happened to be in town too and while having lunch we discussed taking a ride to go get the vices if the lady ever responds. My phone rings and it's Merc, after eating I check my messages and see a text from him with the pic below, he was at the lady's house right then!! He was trying to convince her he wanted to pick the x/y and vise up for me but she promised not to sell out from under me so I got her on the phone and confirmed the deal, he paid for my x/y and struck a deal for the big vise along with other goodies(I'm sure he'll post) and brought it back to town for me. I could not be happier, Merc IOU man!!
I just got home from his house where he loaded me up with some things he wanted to get rid of too that I will post later. I have been searching for a 6" rotary for years and thought this was one, turns out to be an 8" Palmgren made x/y rotary, I am even more excited and just wait til you guys see what he came home with, AWESOME day for me for sure, I think he will be a lil more excited when he does some research on his finds as well!! :rocker:

Dangit, Nine. All I've wanted for my drill press is a simple vise, just better quality than the one I currently have. Can't get that rotary table out of my head now. Got a lead on one and trying to work out a trade but he only seems to want to trade money, the jerk. How high does that thing sit from base to top of the vise on top? I think it would be too big for my 13" drill press but I don't often drill into anything particularly thick. But it would give me a reason to hunt for a larger drill press next year... :)

...but then I'd jack it up by trying to mill with it. This is all your fault.

Thanks Marty and ZK! I guess a 6" is still on my list since technically this is an 8"? :D

Merc, I'll get measurements when I go back out after dinner. You don't really need a rotary table for a standard drill press but it would be handy. I wanted a 6" rotary for my mill but this 8" is too big so it'll go on my big drill press until I get a vertical mill. I will say I have a 6" x/y HF vise on my Craftsman bench top drill press and love it. I had a. 4" HF x/y before and it was just as handy but I sold it for the same price I got the. 6" for so it was a free upgrade. Also, I have a no-name tilting vise I would give you in trade of the valve covers and delivery fee if you want it. It's nice but I have the same type in a Craftsman and don't need two.

Dang it again, now you're being the voice of reason. I know I probably don't need it...just the wheels got turning after yesterday. This guy actually worked for years at the same machine shop where I got my Wilton from when it closed down. I know he sold most of his stuff when he downsized into a smaller house but I knew he still had some things lying around, and he was meticulous about maintenance so anything he has is probably in good shape. Not a motivated seller but I'm going to go check it out soon if they let me.

I'll take the no-name tilting vise as it's got to be better than what I have...which I think is an older version of the base HF vise.

Is this what you're talking about?

http://www.harborfreight.com/6-inch-cross-slide-vise-32997.html

I'd seen them but ruled that out due to what I thought was bad reviews a while back. Looks like the reviews are actually pretty good. Should've hit that up with my 25% off coupon, not that I wasn't already at budget.

Yes that's the HF vise I have. It's the most used vise I have and pretty much stays on the Craftsman bench drill press all the time. It's not machine shop accurate but neither is a/my drill press. It's perfect for day to day drilling and I could see it being perfect for your knife making when drilling holes for handles. Drill a hole and crank it to the next location and drill another straight in line with the first without removing the blade from vise or having to set it up again. The 4" is just as handy but a bit smaller if you have size restraints .

This weeks purchase comes from a CL ad since garage sales are winding down around here some what and I have not had time to hit any estate sales. And my biggest purchase to date but I think I got a good deal.

Good thing you have a flat driveway! I'd have to torch off the last 4 feet of that to have a chance of backing it into my place.

Looks like a great haul and $20/ea on the vises deserves a "you ****". I also want to know what those c-clamps are for!

I hate to say this but I don't think you got a very good deal. Looks like that "car hauler" started its life as a double axle camping trailer. Then some one cut and lowered the back half for the dove tail. Overall I wouldn't trust it hauling anything over 2000lbs. :shocking:

I hear your concerns. When I looked it over it was clear this was originally a purpose built trailer for some piece of machinery and needed some help but, the frame is definitely not from a camper. The axles are much heavier than any camper this size and the overall construction is not factory done. So I know it will need some upgrading but I could see the potential to make it better for minimal cost and take my time doing so. I can handle spending some addition funds a little at a time, just can't afford the new trailer total cost all at once.
It will replace my current tow dolly which will now be sold and further offset the initial purchase price. Once the dolly sells I will have very little invested and can then spend a few bucks to improve this.

Yes LowBuck , he was a huge help. Thanks for the suckage!
I've been half *** gathering things for a garage sale of my own all year and now he has motivated me to finally have it. He will be bringing over a couple truckloads of things he's ready to sell too so hopefully we can both clear out a bunch of **** this weekend and not end up just swapping junk between ourselves... :lol_hitti

My plan is to go in to the new year with a shop I can actually work in, instead of piles of **** on the floor everywhere.

Just a reminder guys, we need nominations for next years thread starter, either we can discuss it here or we can start a poll if needed but we've only got two weeks til the new season to decide who will host 2016's 5th annual thread!!

Nice haul Marty!

I couldn't shake free from work until 2PM Friday so I probably missed a bunch of good stuff at that sale. The folks running it said they will be selling out of the house in March 2016 or so - lot's of antiques and stuff will be in that sale.

Over 2 days wandering around that sale I picked up a few wood handled screwdrivers, a Vicegrip and 2 measuring tapes.

Cheers

Liking the strong New England showing. Can't go wrong with any of the top three. I'm like 88 on the list, off to Craig's to buy something and post.
