I just dropped in at the close of an estate sale on my way back from the hardware store, and found these goodies. Also got a Cross mechanical pencil (not in the photos). I plugged in the electric knife sharpener to test it before buying, and it works!

Scored a very rusty Griswold dutch oven -- Trying the vinegar method of rust removal as I'm too damn indolent to set up my electrolysis rig.

Oh and post pics of the woodworking vice! I missed it as I've been looking for one to put on my bench.

madison069:

Got the Wilton Woodworking Vise cleaned up this morning that picked up at the All Tools sale in Pittsburgh PA on Saturday.

Attached are the pics as it now looks.

My first good score of the year came today. Shortly after waking I got a text message from Merc showing his morning score(much better than mine this evening but he can share that) so I scoured Cl for a deal, full of jealousy from the text I just received... Nothing... While catching up on threads here I kept checking CL, finally an ad I can relate to "For sale tools and alot of them - $20"... I quickly contact the guy and ask how much for the box of tools in the first pic(below), get a reply of "$100 but will work with you on price". I respond thanks but that's way more than I would pay, he inquires how much I would be willing to pay to which I respond $20. He says he will do that and that there are 8 more boxes there too. Immediately I hit up Merc and see if he wants to go check them out. We meet and roll over to the guys house, in the hood with shady characters all around and weed smoke in the air. I check out the box that I inquired about and it's even better in person, deal! I got what I wanted and backed up for Merc to check out the rest, unfortunately the huge lot of wrenches and a few of the boxes sold prior to us getting there so there was only a couple left, Merc chooses one he wants and away we go. Getting back to my vehicle we both go through our finds, turns out the box I got was a Snap On carry box and about 50% is all Snap On!! :rocker:

Merc can post his score if he likes, he made out like a bandit at the first one and got a good deal with me at the second one. I would have bought the box lot at the second one if he turned it down and I'm a tightwad. Mostly keepers in his box, I will be flipping these to cover my year end purchases that were keepers. Hope to have a few dollars for powerball when I'm done.

Huge lot of wrenches we missed out on, I think they are mostly Proto but I've been fooled by poor pics before.

Man I dig that gray index card cabinet...super useful size and looks awesome.

I'll cover last week first. I bought a Craftsman shaper off of CraigsList. The good is that it's in great shape and has a nice stand, and the bad is that it came with no bits, motor cover, and the motor doesn't appear to be worth working with. I've been steadily trying to convince Nine that he wants it :)

This week is off to a better start. I usually check Craiglist before I head to lunch, and there was an ad that was simply titled "Tools", with a blurry picture of some heavy duty looking items. I made out a buffer on a nice stand, so I high tailed it over there. I was zeroed in on the stand and mostly ignored the buffer as it looked a bit rough and was three phase. After going round and round for a couple of minutes trying to only buy the stand, I ended up with the buffer (Baldor 409B, 1.5 HP 3ph), stand, and a frankenstand topped by a piece of RR track for $40.

A couple of hours later Nine texts me that there's another CraigsList ad with a guy getting rid of some high end things so I run back to the same part of town I was in for the other deal, and crab a nice Craftsman box with mostly Craftsman / USA made tools for $20.

Tonight the burning question was whether or not the buffer works. I've been hesitant to plug anything else into my VFD, especially things of an unknown origin...but I rolled the dice and it runs like a DREAM. I didn't have super high hopes about it but after taking a closer look at it, a fresh coat of paint is about all it needs cosmetically. I'll have to source hardware for it as well...hoping that won't be too bad.

Good score Bluebolt! Thanks guys, I'll post pics of contents shortly, I finally separated them all to see exactly what was in there. Merc, I said it earlier before you tried it out and I'll say it again, YOU ****!!! I'll probably end up with that shaper, just gotta replenish my funds first... maybe I'll win the lotto... :D

BTW Merc, post up that stand and see if one of these guys can help identify it, looks like Bluebolt has plenty of catalogs to go through and I'm thinking it's a Craftsman.

It is, but isn't branded. It needed some oiling but appears to function well now. I'm guessing it's nothing special, but I tossed it in the tool box rather than the garage sale pile "just in case".

Ask and you shall receive. I took the grinder off of it last night. It's still pretty dusty but looks like it was part of a pretty nice kit initially.

Top of stand looks to be random wood, but the legs are from an old craftsman table saw like in the pic.

Nine4GMC is right, they are Craftsman bench legs. Page 49, 26 or 31 inches tall. http://www.blackburntools.com/artic...ves/sears/pdfs/sears-craftsman-1949-power.pdf

Thanks Nine4GMC, I just got the Ebay invoice $41 with shipping for all of it. I will have some duplicates of the Craftsman catalogs if you are interested. Now I need some numbered drill bits LOL.

Okay, here are the tools all separated from yesterday. First pic is all Snap On except the DOE and DBE Blue Point wrenches. There is a full set of deep and shallow SAE SO sockets in the tray, along with my favorite - the swivel sockets, all 3/8 drive along with the ratchet, extensions breaker bar and t handle. Second pic is everything else from Craftsman, Ridgid, Proto, Channel Lock, Stanley, Starrett etc, the cheapest thing in there is a set of Meteor ignition wrenches. It's probably 40# worth of tools here! :willy_nil

STOP !!! You're killing me. :eyecrazy: :willy_nil

Like you killed me last year? PAYBACK! :lol_hitti

Here are 2/4 tables Merc and I got from the auction over the weekend, had a buddy bid on them for us and we just picked them up. He got a large one like mine and a slightly different small one but they are all General Fireproofing. I plan a full strip and either refinish or bare steel depending where they go since someone painted them brown at some point....

Well not a typical deal, but I went to sell a fire axe I customized to a fireman. He was on duty and couldn't leave the station so asked if I would deliver . I agreed . He was so grateful once he seen the axe the deal grew. I ended up getting the $100 bucks originally agreed on plus another fire axe and a 745 Wilton mechanics vise. It's beat to hell but I know a guy the can do something about that!
