I picked up an old filing cabinet off C/L yesterday, unlike any I've ever seen before. 37" wide, 39" tall, and 18 inches wide. Three doors lift up and slide back just like those in a barrister bookcase, but these slide completely back into the cabinet. The upper two doors conceal two full width pull-out trays, and the lower door has one tray behind it. All trays are supported by heavy-duty, full-suspension drawer slides. This is going to make one fine storage unit for my shop.

Stopped by the local ReStore and walked out with the following for a total of $80. The Proto 3/4 Breaker Bar and Proto Socket was my favorite. The rest was gravy:drool:

I picked up an old filing cabinet off C/L yesterday, .....................

That cabinet would be perfect for power tool storage !
No more squatting and reaching in to fumble for the right tool. :thumbup:

Stopped by the local ReStore ..........

Billerica or Lawrence ?
I never see stuff like that in Lawrence. If it shows up there, it's gone before it hits the shelves.
Never checked out the Billerica store.

Ah, didn't know that. I knew I should have gotten down to Billerica when I had the chance.
Unlikely I'll make it out to the Tyngsboro one.

Nice finds BTW.

Blue, I see that style in doctors and dentist offices regularly. No clue why, but they don't use Pendiflex folders so the probably hold more...

I picked up these two wrenches at the ReStore yesterday...

The tiny wrench just says "DROP FORGED" and "CHINA"... No size markings... But appears to be an actual wrench and not just a toy/novelty wrench.

The larger wrench is a 1/2" Proto Anti-Slip Design... Marked "1216BASD USA PATENT NO 5381710". My phone photo doesn't show it very well, but it is a distinct coppery color... I'm wondering if this is one of the copper-beryllium non-sparking alloy wrenches? :dunno:

First find of the new year.
Couldn't pass it up for $60
Purchased from the original owner.
The 3 vises it came with were worth more than what I paid.

That's a beauty there! I never seem to see anything that old, with moving parts, in good shape, and for sale (at least at a reasonable price) down south.

Amen to that Merc!

Off-Street, I think that(beryllium) is what the "B" stands for in BASD but I may be mistaken.

Hit one estate , The first estate of the year in my area. Slim pickens. A local competitor beet me to the punch... this time. He walked out with axe's hammers and a bag full of goodies . I walked out with 3 paltry items for 3 bucks.
Forest King claw hammer

Bench clamp Rex Electric light- really pretty cool

A complete 26 week course in Memory training written by Marvin Dana in 1919. The first 20 century self help guru... I have to remember to read this!

Hit a pawn shop Monday and got a 1/2" Duro-Chrome ratchet and 1/4" Craftsman ratchet (currently apart to be cleaned up) for $3.50.

WP_20160107_22_09_05_Pro.jpg

Was on the way home from where I picked up an older Craftsman shaper that I'm not as proud of, but I'll scare up some pictures later on that. I did get one deal just a few minutes ago from a guy down the street that I was ecstatic with, being a big Craftsman guy. NOS 32 piece USA made wrench set for $15.

WP_20160107_22_10_12_Pro.jpg

I couldn't pass it up, but now I'm swimming in these as I picked another similar set up recently for a bit more than that, but still a good deal. Now if only I could find a set of double box ends reasonably priced...

No big score for me today, but my slump is finally over. :rocker:

Only one sale today. I went into it knowing that it was going to be iffy. Only a handful of tools available and most of those the usual homeowner scraps. There were a couple of rusty japanese style handsaws (not my thing), but otherwise not really worth having to jump start my truck to go out in the cold this morning (bad battery).

Here's the consolation prize I paid $2 for. (I wasn't walking out empty handed)

Gunline Checkering set

jake, i have a stock or two with checkering that needs cleaned up. If you don't have any experience cutting checkering, I'd be willing to put a stock in your hands to let you try.

Just trying to be a good neighbor and see your skill set increase. I guess I'd be willing to do the finish work. :lol_hitti

Bill - I'll put your stocks in the queue for the to-do list. I'll let you know when they come up. You can expect to get them back sometime in the next 15-30 years. :lol:

Nothing like quality tools to get them out. Estate sale advertised as, "Retired aircraft mechanic, Snap On etc." I got there at 9:33 for a 10:00 am opening and there were twelve ahead of me. I got in with the second group. I think the first-day prices turned off some, so there were still some decent pickings.

I don't need to tell the Pros here that bundling is the way to go. The Snap On metric stubby set was priced at $100 and the rolling mechanics seat at $40. Everything else was not priced (found inside the Snap On roller to be sold empty for $1,200) and came in at $35:

I picked up the following:

Snap On complete OXIM metric stubby combination set ($307 list);
Matco Tools 3/8" air drill ($308 list) with Jacobs USA chuck;
Craftsman Made in Switzerland needle file set;
Snap On 3-pc bronze punch set ($99 list)
Old and very worn but still straight Stanley Professional 1/2" flat head screwdriver;
VBW Germany mini adjustable pliers;
Waldes Truarc Snap Ring pliers;
Easco USA (Craftsman OEM) RHFT 1/4" drive ratchet;
Matco Tools rolling mechanic's seat;
No marking but definitely Forged in USA pickle fork;
Blue Point by Snap On pocket blow gun;

I forgot to ask for the chuck key for the air drill, but luckily I've got one that fits. The 1/2" bronze punch just needed a few strokes with a file, but otherwise they're like new. The Stanley screw driver also just needed a few strokes with a file at the tip. The Snap On midget set looks unused except for the 13mm.

Got some SnapOn, USA Craftsman and Xcelite for $2.50 at the flea market. I love the tiny slip joint pliers.

You got some real nice tools today.
I saw that sale listed for the last month and kinda figured the prices would be high so I hit a few local sales. And only 12 people ahead of you wow.
If that sale wasn't listed as Snap On heaven and just tools or such with pictures there would have been a list with 20 names on it 2 hours before the sale started.

Thanks for all the good postings that folks are picking up. It definitely keeps us motivated.

We have a local one hour radio show, where people can call in for free and advertise items for sale or to buy. Fellow advertised on Tuesday a blacksmith post vise and a RR tie tong/carrier.

The post vise had issues, so took a pass. However, did buy the RR tie tong/carrier. Handles are 20 inches long and max opening to tong is 20 inches. Only marking found was what looks like 1BC 86

Pics 1-3

Mentioned above find to my Dad, and he brought me another type tong/carrier. Did find a marked M on one side of it, but it looks like it had a name on it at another location, but it's been worn so bad, I can't make out a name.

Pics 4-6

Stopped at Flea Mkt and Thrift store, where bought a Superior Tool Tub Drain Wrench, a **** Gauge and box of small flat head wood screws.

Holy Crud you guy are killing it...

Jake you kinda ****-a-lot for those checkering tools!

Thanks guys. The sad thing is that while I knew what they were, I had no idea how much they sell for new. I only picked the set up because the sale was a bust otherwise and I was determined not to leave my first sale of the year empty-handed. Sometimes dumb luck pays off.

Good deal on the others, just be careful comparing old, well used tools to brand new prices. That's a nice drill and worth what you paid, but that's about it.

I think I want to the same NJ sale as Garth - with tons of snap on tools listed. House was nearly empty with a few mugs and picture frames for sale in the other 3 rooms they had open.

http://www.EstateSales.NET/NJ/Randolph/07869/1061226

Got there around 2pm and box and most of the tools were gone but I did manage to find a few things.

I also had a AMP tie wrap tension tool in the pile. Seller wanted $60. I said I could do $20. She offered to meet me halfway at $40. Still more than I wanted to spend. She pulled out the tie wrap tool and offered remainder for $20.

Sadly, now that I have the room to build my dream shop (one estate sale at a time), I no longer have the time to build anything. :sad:

Not intended to sound defensive, but the drill hardly has a scratch on it. There's a couple on Fleabay now for $70 and it's as good as any of them.

I know that list prices aren't realistic even for new tools. Even the Snap On guys will give you some discount.

I saw most of those very same tools but passed up the punches because they were bent. I suppose they could be straightened, but I've got some already. That's the result of using too small a tool or too big a hammer.

I looked at the updated ad, and it looks like they sold quite a bit. Although I heard some mild grumbling about the prices, and some guys were trying hard to haggle, I have to think they were fair. Most of the tools looked well cared-for.
