Okay, so maybe my "retirement" is a transient state that depends on whether there's a sale nearby. I still contend that I'm not driving all over the country side every weekend looking for scores, so let's just call it "semi-retired".

You may not be driving all over the countryside, but there's nothing "semi" about flying all over the countryside to get to a sale.

Next, I had to run into town center today to take pictures of our youngest marching in the high school band at the Apple Blossom Festival. Oh look, a garage sale advertising tools. Picked up Craftsman 45075 dikes and Crescent G-26 pliers - $1 each.

Then, took the long way home to stop in on an estate sale. This was one of those small, piled high workshops mixed with mouse nests and acorn shells in every drawer. Jake, you would have loved it. Not a honey hole but I found some take-homes:

This pile was $5.

I'd call that just adjusting the territory to a reasonable area. I did that a long time a go and only do the long runs for a particular something I just can't live without or I will combine a stop with some other reason I needed to be there. I don't generally "make up a reason" for that though. :3gears:

Nice scores guys! I'me working on some pics, I need to get some "work" work done, and I may sneak out to revisit one stop...

Made a late run to the flea today to see all of a half dozen vendors there in the strong winds and wetness.

I knew the tool guy would be there because his stuff won't blow away. Still did okay, found a few things for $1 apiece.

Burn Tool Co Wood plane blade
Buck Chisel
Fulton Chisel
Hardy for a vise
Blue Point Supreme punch
Blackhawk vintage 1/2 drive 7/16" socket

Well it looks like a punch because it is one. I have a few in different sizes that were used for sailmaking. But could be used for punching holes in any softer material. Leather, canvas kind of stuff.

This guy calls last night wanting to sell me some vise's he had. He needed bail money for his girl friend...lol He wanted 175 but I told him I'm only paying 150. So I bought a 1977 Wilton 4-1/2 bullet and a Morgan Chicago 135. The Morgan is a real beater but the Wilton besides being covered in surface rust is a peach . Jaws are like new and not a single hammer mark anywhere. I'm not sure it's ever been bolted down.

finally got some decent stuff today. Kind of a grab bag of all sorts of random brands as well. $45 bucks for everything. (the money is going to a local church so I didn't barter at all. And I think it was pretty fair)

All Cornwell 1/2" drive and a wrench
9u9bid.jpg

B & C clamp, Bog speed wrench w. 3/4" socket, Indestro wrench, Fleet 1/2" speeder, Truth Mankato T-bar, New Britain t-bar and sockets, Peterson Vise grips, unknown ratchet
vi1z15.jpg

Truth Extension (modified), Hexo DBE, Unknown DBE (modified), 2 Ford wrenches, Controlled Steel wrench, Husky (USA) wrench, Proto wrench, Bluepoint wrench, Oxwall wrench (heh), Plomb socket, The rest are fleet, bonney, herbrand, proto, snap-on, Ken Tool, craftsman, Champion, and Challenger...and one unknown 15/16" hex drive deep socket. whew!
2zp8lj5.jpg

And then this homemade tool box, some allen wrenches, and a Union Agreement booklet from 1950 (Local 945 and Parts Manufacturing Corp of Traverse City, MI)

My first real outing to a sale this year. Just have not been as motivated to spend more money this year but, this estate sale was real close and showed pics of lots of tools, fishing and gun stuff, knives etc.
I didn't get there until after 1:00pm and figured all the good stuff would be gone but to my surprise the garage was still full and so was the house even with a steady stream of people. Some prices were very good for a first day and some way off.

Fist pic is from the garage. $28 total. Small SK socket set partially complete was $3, an empty SK socket set box was $1. All hand wrenches were $1 each so I picked out a set of Craftsman and some individual Proto, Barcalo, Bonney and Stanley. The small 4 jaw chuck was $4 and the flaring tool was $4. A full can of tire dressing was $1.
IMG_2648.jpg

From the basement some mostly full cans of black powder $3 and $4 each. A Stanley square, Utica adjustable wrench with a unique button that locks the jaws in place where you set them. A fishermans knife and ruler combo. And at the check out table a nice used example of an old Russell Green River Works trade knife was $10. And a TAT Brand socket set from Spain $5. Not sure if it's worth much yet but was unique and only missing one piece.
IMG_2649.jpg

The fishing knife is funny because one side the ruler is for Honest Fishermen and the other side for Dishonest Fishermen.
IMG_2650.jpgIMG_2651.jpg

Also bought but not pictured here most of the parts to a 1860's style muzzle loader kit that was not finished including the barrel, fore and **** stock and some of the lock parts. And a hand tooled leather gun belt/holster that would fit something like a Navy revolver or similar.
I'll be going back tomorrow morning for day two pricing.

Had a goodun today, couple planned stops, a couple TOO's (that were time wasters, oh well, you don't look, you don't find...) So, second stop first, for two dollars I got:

Wiha insulated bit driver and HK Porter cable cutters, which work perfect.
But it was the first stop that made my day, and for $20 got the following:

and with it came the motor:

I have never seen an open induction motor like that before, so it will be interesting to see work. Needs a new cord, but that is no big deal (I cut them off of power strips that I find cheap) When I asked how much, he said he told a neighbot $30, but the guy never came back, so I held up a twenty and said "how's $20 right now sound?" Sold!
The three jaw chuck is a bit frozen, so that will take work, but should be no big deal. I am sure there is a vintage lathe thread around here somewhere...

Went to the auction for some farm stuff. Ended up buying 3 tool boxes. This is the biggest, looks to be about 100 decent tools. This is as far as I got.

Once I go through the flats I will post pics of some of it in the respective threads. Need empty the other 2 boxes first.

Nice haul Tellingthem. I wonder if that ratchet might be an old Thorsen. Any markings?

Thanks! Actually I think I just figured it out haha. It looks like IHUIH...figured it was owners marks. But looking closer at the stamping and it dawned on me. The stamping looks light on top. I'm betting it's "TRUTH".

Not technical ya garage sale score--but in the never ending effort to find good deals for myself to use or re-sell, I found this pair of older Saylor-Beall 705 80gallon air compressors.. One works and according to the seller, one "smokes".. Either way, at $300 they were basically giving them away..

OK Picture time for me. I had a VERY good day. Not by volume, not by quality, but by "Things on my YS Bucket List! :pimpflash

First stop got me this HP Power supply. 6V and + or - 20 v, and adjustable within those peaks. Nine bucks.

attachment.php

Second stop you have to wait for! :p

Next was a Block sale that has done well by me in years gone by. a bit slower today: The mini torch, Duro 3/8 Speeder, Small Giller box, (my second I believe) and the Hole cutter; I was thinking it was for a golf hole but its 3" not 4-1/2.

attachment.php

The Little brass "shower head" and faucet adapter were a buck. The silver forks and "Selfie Stick" were three - I cleaned two of the forks with Wright silver cleaner just to show the difference a little care makes;

attachment.php

Now we get to one of the "Bucket list" items an early Proto Tool board! :rocker: I strongly suspect that under that blue Proto sticker is "Plvnb" printing! (Anyone have a Plvmb board? are they green?) If I'm right this makes this a "lawsuit" board! got it for five! :bounce:

attachment.php

the "Skipped" item is next post!

Yes! Its a Plvmb! I've been on the hunt for one of the for five years!

So this will find a home on top of my old 2 drawer Pressteel roller, as I believe Pressteel made both.

Now that green inside... anyone think that is original? Ithe interior and drawers are painted like it was, but it doesn't seem right for the era.. :headshake

Great find! I'm not sure the color is original either. The lil 1/4" socket box I found this weekend has the OD wrinkle finish. But that's just a small box.

Outlaw you should check with bmwrd0 . He posted in the "The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!" thread a short time ago. His Plomb box is not the subject but it is there to see and the green is pretty close.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5739527&postcount=5665

Thanks Craptain, I just came from there and saw that! similar but not quite...

Top, I have a couple of older small boxes as well (Including the one my dad had for a 1/4" "set"... ; All OD or repainted...

Outlaw: you have created a major vacuum in your garage. Can't believe you found the tool board and the tool box in the same day. Major suckage and you need to go buy some lottery tickets...

Here's my take from a estate sale on Thursday. I was first in the garage told area, but it just wasn't that much there.
58439ce8d6543d11b8289eb6c252be67.jpg
Some flapper wheels for the bench grinder, nice hand reamers and deburring tools, made in Germany and Switzerland , USA unibits, a desolder tool with suction, three crimpers and some Relton hard surface drill bits and hole saw.

Got Bondhus? I do now, all next to new, the channel locks that can never be passed up.

A 3/8" stubby angle drill.

...True...

Now I just have to decide whether I'll keep these and run them in tandem in my new barn, or sell them for some play money and keep using my lovely 1972 Kellogg American.. Guys selling them said they were "too loud" and besides, they were in a detail shop and the guys were only using the compressed air for blowing dust away from the cars they were working on.. Guessing these lived a very comfy lifestyle..

The shop replaced these big girls with one of these fancy little California Air Tools "quiet" compressor.. (I was unimpressed with the sound this little turd generated while I was eyeballing the monsters.)
