I finally got to go pick up my new to me lathe today. First pic is on site where I picked it up from a boatyard. The guy there is my buddy who was helping.

I don't know the motor but maybe someone can identify it?

nine4,
Yep you nailed it perfectly. Somebody merged the two together in a past life. Interesting but I think I can still use it to hold a small buffer motor and be sturdy. It's pretty heavy using that table saw mount as the floor base.
I wondered if it was a Craftsman piece and now I at least know that much. Well parts of two CM pieces I guess.

Thanks.

Finally got a chance to post some pics of an estate sale I went to. Older gentlemen, shop had been closed for the last 15yrs or so. Everything is primarily from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Managed to find some craftsman =v= tools I had been looking for. Total for everything was $125

Thanks guys, there are a few items I'll be posting in the vintage forum that I think are pretty interesting, some of which I have no clue what they're for.

Dangermouse,

Nice haul.

What make are the 15* x 90* electrical wrenches in the black leatherette pouch?

What make is the set of 1/2-inch square drive sockets in the gray box? One of the universal joints (the 1/2-inch sq dr female-to-female) is a Duro. Are the sockets Duro?

EDIT: Also, what is the make and markings on the 60-hole twist drill and wire gage?

Went to a tool auction on 6/21/16 but just bought one box.

Pic 1--Vtg Stanley No. 48 Tongue Groove Plane "B" Casting

Pic 2--Vtg Millers Falls No. 773, 8 inch Swing Bit Brace w/Lion Chuck

Pic 3--Vtg Russwin Railroad Pipe Wrench--Marked B&O RR

Pic 4--Pair Cast Iron Balance Beam Scale Hooks Weights & L.F. & C #3 Spring Scale

Pic 5, 6 and 7--A broken ft section hand plane found in box. Very unusual set up that reminds me of my Sheldon WW vise, as has grooves on back of the knife blade and also on adjustments, to move knife blade up/down. Whole set up is like you would see done on a nice firearm gun.

UPDATE on 6/22/16: After cleaning hand plane up today, found it was made by the Metallic Plane Co. of Auburn New York. Company was only in business from 1867-1879.

Steven Thomas described the various mechanism's on this hand plane along with pics. Below is the link but go down about 1/2 way and look for his Post 95 and 96.

The 3.5" is complete and super clean. The 4" is missing a swivel base, and the jaw caps are only 3.5"

I've watched this set of ratchets at a local pawn shop for about 8 months now... I have worked on the owner every time I'm in there about selling them to me. He first had them listed at 100.00 . I told him I could buy them new at Sears for that. Long story short , he finally sells them to me for 35.00!

What make is the set of 1/2-inch square drive sockets in the gray box? One of the universal joints (the 1/2-inch sq dr female-to-female) is a Duro. Are the sockets Duro? Attached are pics of the sockets. Seems like he probably pieced that set together over time; seems like most major manufacturers of that era are represented there.

EDIT: Also, what is the make and markings on the 60-hole twist drill and wire gage? It's marked General- see pic

Almost forgot- the last pic is a bucket of perfect handle screwdrivers that I forgot to include a pic of. Looking forward to using them for projects.

I really like the bucket full of perfect handles. Looks like you have a good range in sizes. If I remember right they came in 8 sizes. No. 1-8. No other driver fits the hand like a perfect handle!

Topop101:

With bid, tax and commission, had $17.40 into price of box.

Probably what kept people from bidding higher was the wooden hand plane with no irons (pic 1 & 2) and a metal mystery hand plane with broken off front section.

UPDATE on 6/23/16: After cleaning hand plane up today, found metal mystery hand plane was made by the Metallic Plane Co. of Auburn New York. Company was only in business from 1867-1879.

A couple weeks ago I found a 18" Diamond thinking it was the biggest. Someone here told me they go up to 24". Today I found it which completes the lineup from 4" to 24"! (4" for reference). Please don't tell me they go to 36"!! It was $10:

P1060661.jpg

I can't speak for Diamond, but Proto makes a 20" adjustable. If you wanna flip that 24" wrench, send me a PM and I'll meet you anywhere in town :)

Good score, those are so much nicer than the standard squared craftsman ratchets!

Here are some items from a tag sale in the Portland, OR area. The new-in-box Kent-Owens puller and Stanley 51 spoke shave were $3.00 each. Parker 1/4" tubing bender, Greenfield #6 tap wrench, Trimo 8" pipe wrench, Plomb WF-38 ratchet and Craftsman 1/4" -V- breaker all $2.00 ea, and the extractor, $.50.

Well got rid the main source of my hoarding today. Traded my enclosed trailer for $2500 cash, a 2003 Arctic Cat ZL 600, and a Karavan Single place sled trailer. Now I can't wait for snow!:bounce:

Also this isn't really tool related but it is helping me towards a non hoarder mindset.

Picked these up today from an estate sale dealer. They're in much better condition than shown in the pics - a good wax job and they'll be mounted above my workbench.

Clean the exhaust valves and make sure you give it a good greasing on your pre-season check.

Make sure you hit the grease zerk behind driven clutch! 2 pumps every 500 miles or so, no more.

You aren't fooling anyone but yourself. That sled cart and a good tarp (picked up at your next sale, of course) will do just fine storing your new acquisitions.

The least he could do is spend $40 on a sun faded factory cover for it instead of a $5 tarp...

I wasn't talking about covering the sled, up here we just leave them in the weeds until it snows again (which is why most look like **** after one season).

Are those cabinets angled on the back? I suppose to keep supplies from falling out when mounted on a straight wall?

One stop after work today and it turned out to be an old friend I had lost contact with when I left to go into the military back in 86. I spent 10 years in and I guess I just forgot about him. Anyway he wasn't doing very well health wise and was selling his tools. I missed the good stuff from the morning but still managed a few deals. I wasn't going to barter with him so I paid asking price. It was good to remember some of the rotten things we used to do back then....

It cost me 122.50 today for;
Matco DOE angle 6 piece wrench set from 3/4 - 1-1/4"
7 piece Matco swiveling impact sockets set
6- 1/2 dr. Snap-on impact sockets
MAC 20 oz. ball peen hammer
10" Barcalo buffalo adjustable
8" Proto channel grooved pliers
2 pair of K-D hose clamp? ratcheting pliers. Never seen these before. He said they were used to clamp off fuel , coolant hoses ?:dunno:
and an odd Ford wrench ? :dunno:

Here is what I found in a pawn shop today for $10.
An old Craftsman Crown top tool box with very little redeeming qualies. A set of Grip sockets which are like new, but I don't know anything about them and mostly junk stuff in the bottom. I think that may be a Craftsman screwdriver.

In the top is the good stuff. Look closely. That is a pair of Proto pliers USA. A Snap On FV71 ratchet and several Thorsen USA made deep sockets.
