It's was at a small auction in town, on a day that I was across the state and not able to go. They took my proxy bid and I got a call that I had won. Didn't even max my bid out. $ 71.00 out the door.

Forecast for Southwest Florida: "Clear, sunny, but with a super-concentrated area of extreme low pressure centered on cbacres garage..."

In other words, YOU ****!!!!

Well gentlemen I finally had the wherewithal to not only score a few things today, but also remember to share them with you all.

I was able to obtain the entire lot for $5.

-A texture gun
-A fertilizer/seed spreader
-some peg board hooks
-a weather resistant outlet cover

How did I do?

It is in great shape.

Do you know where the markings are stamped on these?. It's rare to me for sure, never seen one before.

Good thing both of us are at the age where we are done having kids, as we each left a nut on the ground lifting this in back of the truck.
I'm still in awe at how smooth the drawrs are and how nice it rolls around.
I don't normally buy boxes like this, but it really caught my attention. I'll go through it and repaint some day. Thinking of using to store my small collection of vintage tools.

Typically the boxes are marked on the back, just below the top. Mine didn't have any markings that I could find, but the original paint is in pretty rough shape so I might find something underneath if I ever decide to repaint. That's definitely a great price, I paid $120 for mine in worse condition. As for the weight, I had to unload mine by myself, so I was really glad I had rented a trailer with a low deck. It's funny, I've always loved the style of these old boxes, where it seems like everyone else just sees a worn out piece of junk.

Here at an estate sale in Needham, Mass. Normally this would be a good number, but there are so many people, they started recycling the slips...

Good luck, looked like a lot of good stuff in the pics, especially the vises. Almost went, but figured it would be a mad house, and it's an hour+ ride for me.

Bullet, Interesting that the Polish wrench was marked in English! Made for the export market I'd guess. I wonder if it made it out of Europe, only to be brought "home"

Outlaw - Good point. I'm thinking it was probably destined for the UK; have never heard of Derby wrenches, and not finding much at all on the web.

Just found one reference on GJ.

Not much luck at the auction, few tools + giant crowd=crazy prices. Did get a box for $5 with a bucket dolly, 1 Hansen, 3 harbor freight socket trays. Also bought a bucket of pad locks and keys, only issue is none of the key fit any of the locks! Live and learn I suppose.

Just a few things bought on Friday at yard sales.

Pic 7--A Commercial Aluminum Cookware Toledo OH and sheet 24" x 17" and couple inches deep and marked No. 18262. I use them for storing parts when taking apart and cleaning items like vises.

Here's my auction find this week.
Went to look at grinder hoping it was a 3/4 hp, it's a 1/4 hp. But the cabinet is a SO 9 drawer, a K 300 I believe, haven't found a stamp with model yet.

This is one heavy box, all the drawers work great. Best I can tell, the silver hammered paint is original.. Every picture I've seen of their box was red.anyone have any insight on these?

Good luck. If it's the estate sale company that I think it is, their prices tend to be high, especially on the first day. But they don't know much about tools so those prices tend to be more reasonable. They specialize in high end sales and have a large following that shows up to all their sales, so you have to get there very early to get a good number, and they only let a few in at a time.
Can't wait to see what you came out with.

I though about this one too, but it's well outside my leashes range and I had no desire to drive the whole way around 128 at the crack of dawn (I did that almost daily for 10yrs, I'm done). I chose to sleep in instead.

Sales were pretty sparse this weekend.

This pile was $10. Ford wrench, old Stanley chisel, Plomb, large Matco sockets, misc

P1060745.jpg

I "mined" 5 buckets of lead ingots from a dark corner of a shop sale. $10 for 320 lbs.

The mid-season State of the Thread report.

As we close out the first six months of this thread, I'd like to thank all the members who have contributed to this years conversations by sharing their finds. We've seen some great items found and saved so far. From small items such as pliers, screwdrivers, and wrenches, to big and heavy items such as anvils, drill presses, and lathes. We've even seen forklifts, trailers, and a car lift show up.

Along the way we've seen rare items come along, as well as the mundane. All are welcome. Each post gives the membership the opportunity to see and learn about items that they may not have had the chance to otherwise see or know about. Members have even shared online bargains from areas outside their sphere for other members to pounce on.

For myself, this thread (and it's previous incarnations) has allowed me to gloat over some of my finds when my family could care less. It has taught me about items and brands I didn't know existed. And it has cost me a lot of money for things I wouldn't have otherwise known I needed.

I look forward to seeing what you guys (and gals) turn up in the next six months.

How could we possibly top what has been recovered and put back to use so far ?
Keep reading and posting to find out.
We're not done yet ....................
well said sir, good luck to everyone on the next 6 months of treasure finds!

Bulletpruf, that's cool you went there. I bought a Derby Poland wrench here last year because I never saw one before. Could that guy there be any more obvious in checking out the red head? :lol_hitti

BlueBomber, the numbers thing made me laugh. Haven't been to one like that in a while but sometimes it is worth the wait.

Well my sale is now over and I made $212 for two days. Not the greatest but it helped me move some tools and I had time to organize my tools. I met a forum member named Joe I think that wanted to do a trade for my snap on box. Your didn't come back today to pick it up. I don't have your contact info so please pm me please.

Good luck, looked like a lot of good stuff in the pics, especially the vises. Almost went, but figured it would be a mad house, and it's an hour+ ride for me.

There was a giant Wilton bullet vise that went for $150. Lot's of folks showed up early and made big piles. By the time I got there, the garage and basement were in the typical shambles. But sometimes, you find gems that the herd missed.

Good luck. If it's the estate sale company that I think it is, their prices tend to be high, especially on the first day. But they don't know much about tools so those prices tend to be more reasonable. This was the Best Rate Cleanouts crowd. I've had pretty good luck with them, but only go to the sales with tools. You're right, they can be high at opening day, but bundling can bring the prices down to a reasonable level.

BlueBomber, the numbers thing made me laugh. Haven't been to one like that in a while but sometimes it is worth the wait.

The wait turned out to be about 30 minutes...not too bad.

This sale was a two car garage and small basement workshop (along with two more floors of stuff I wasn't interested in). The early birds got the good numbers and went to town in the garage. I saw folks with bags of tools, a Kennedy roller chest, and other goodies. By the time my "113" got called, the pickings were slim, but I did find a few things in the corners I hadn't seen before, which are usually worth bringing home. Total price: $22

Not bad for a late entry. Yes, that was the company I was thinking of.
I'm not sure that saw was for ice. The ones I see tend to have larger/fewer teeth, but I could be wrong. :dunno:

Enjoy seeing the items being picked up this weekend!!!

On Saturday, due to time constraints, only hit one yard sale.

Pic 1--Always in demand in our family, a vintage bookcase. 43-1/2 inches wide by 70 inches tall and 16 inches deep.

Pic 2 & 3--Cast iron horse head 13 inches tall, by 13 inches long by 3 inches wide. Hollow inside.

Pic 4--Bocce Ball Set

Other than some misc fine steel wool pads, that was it.

Mike

BlueBomber that desk lamp is just too cool!

Not much in the way of finds for me today. I had actually decided to do a little bit of fishing today, so I was up at 5 am, but 60 degrees, high winds, and not getting so much as a nibble all morning made me decide to pack up around 9 and try for a couple sales instead. (Pic of me getting pummeled by the wind.) Drove around for a couple hours but didn't find anything worthwhile in the way of tools. I did find this (broken) 32" Westinghouse TV for $2. Seller said they had a brown out that smoked both their TVs, so I suspect that a power supply board should fix it right up. I had shown up right as the buyer of their 47" Samsung TV was loading it up, had I shown up 5 mins earlier I could have picked it up for $5. Also across the street I got a 64oz growler bottle for my favorite local brewery for a buck, so I have plans to get it filled next time I'm over there

I don't have to wonder. :pimpflash I still have high end stereo gear (and pre-stereo gear, and even two hand crank phonographs), and with good gear, it sounds awesome!

PS Desmond appears to be the old maker of Desmond Stephan vises from Urbana Ohio.

http://www.desmond-stephan.com/

Nailed it, Craptain and BlueBolt! After googling grinder dresser wheel tools and replacement cutters, I'm convinced it's a dresser tool. And yes, refills are available on Amazon. However, there is a vacuum of info on "Searles Improved" company or any tool manufacturer in Farmington, ME.

This company is still in business, making non-marring hammers for the last 75 years! They have a Make-Your-Own option, where they'll sell you the handle and molds to pour your own hammer heads, and if you ship them your old hammer, they'll recast them for you for ten bucks, plus shipping.

Make a call to the Farmington, ME Historical Society. If the person on the phone doesn't have info, they'll probably know who in town does.

First day of the flea market today. Not many venders, but not many buyers either so I went late and still found some stuff. The NB ratchets just needed cleaning, but the other two are pretty crummy inside. Sockets are craftsman, wright, SK, and Mac. Excelite nut driver, and some SK, Proto, Williams, and Lectrolite wrenches. Hammers are not marked as far as I can tell.

We're on a family vacation in Prague, Czech Republic. Hit a pretty big flea market today just as the rain was coming in.

Lots of vendors were packing up, but I scored a few things. How did I do?

The toy cement truck for my daughter was overpriced at $.82, but not worth haggling over.

The pair of license plates set were $4.10; need to trade one for some other ones that I need for my small collection.

The canvas satchel is allegedly Russian; it's marked "18M2". It's in very good condition, but I just bought it to lug the other stuff around in. It was $8.20; not too bad.

The wooden plane was $1.20 -- marked Tatila or maybe Fatila.

I thought the beer steins were cool, but a bit pricey at $8.22 for the pair.

The "DERBY MADE IN POLAND" 24 mm/26 mm DOE was about $.40 and the Smatcalda (sp?) made in GDR (formerly East Germany) offset DBE was about $1.20.

The carved wooden thing set me back $16.45; looks like the artist was "Bedel." Not sure the use -- it was designed to fit in some slots somehow.

It must be a prerequisite in Europe that their is some guy with his shirt off at every public meeting place.
