Paid too much? Not really, that's a good deal specially if you can use it. i think the low interest is because the jack isn't special like a walker type jack.

Stopped at 2 sales today, one was a planned stop from an estate sale from a couple weeks back, they re-opened after some of the stuff was cleared out,did not find anything to purchase there.Second stop was a TOO of a sign the says "Man Stuff sale" Sure enough it was all tools and garage items.Walked away with these few items:
001.jpg

2 Mac Tool magnetic bit holders,Lufkin double square head, pair of Bemis & Call dividers,a Sawyer Tool MFG. co. protractor head,Par-X 1/4" driver handle,KAL palm ratchet,an unmarked centerfinder head, and a Matco awl/pick all for $20.

I'm gonna have to sort thru some combination square blades and try and get a blade on each of the heads. I think a nice 4" blade would do quite well on the Lufkin double square.

Thanks! I posted more pics in the Toolboxes thread on the Vintage board if you want a closer look.

This is my little estate haul. I went to one sale late in the afternoon.

Blackhawk sockets with Indian logo 1-1/16,1-1/8,1-1/4

I just found a 25/32, same production vintage. And I think I have another one, a smaller size, down the basement. It's the last socket on the right in the line of sockets on top of the flex extension...

Auction today was disappointing. Still managed to find these "gems"in a pallet of box lots.

Unknown rusty pliers, and screwdriver. Second pic is the only marking I could find on either of them. Also ended up with some rusty squares and a bunch of hardware and gardening items not worthy of a pic.

Tool box full of random stuff, picked them out before I tossed the rest, forgot to take pics of the box.

Snap on DOE (bent), 2 Mac drivers, P&C chisel, craftsmen chisels, Hudson forge DOE, walden combo, SK DOEs, couple of ignition wrenches, unknown alligator wrench, pliers rusted badly, USA filled, and a couple of unmarked chisels.

Alinc - I have two of those PalmGrip ratchets. Both 3/8dr. Once cleaned and lubed they work great. I can get a better grip with it than my SnapOn, SK, Craftsman, or HF thumb grips. Good find !

Picked up my 12 x 36 Altlas lathe yesterday. When I got there I also was given all this tooling. I have no idea what to do with all of it but free is good. Oh it also came with this very sad Gerstner tool box. He threw in a very well used and heavily repaired 6" Columbian fixed base vise, but you all know how I feel about Columbians... best of all is that he has every piece of paper from when his dad bought it in 1961; manuals, bench setup instructions, laminated oiling instructions, bench setup etc...

Not a bad deal for $400...now if only I can figure out how to use it:lol_hitti

Very nice complete set, Blue Frog, and even the roll-up is in great shape. The weave of the canvas and the hardware says 1950's and so do the finish and handles on those WALDEN drivers. Nice find!

Very good eye, ttpete. When I dumped the tools out I could see that the box had thin uniform slots for partitions where the magazines went. It's a French Benet Mercie MG ammo box, used also for a short time by the USMC. If you're interested in a closer look, I plan to post more pictures in the GJ Toolboxes thread on the Vintage board shortly.

That's a fairly rare piece, because those guns were not used much. I think the only time they were fired in anger was during Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus NM during the pre-WWI unpleasantness along the border. They didn't work well then.

They were actually of French Hotchkiss design, and were also British issue under the name of Hotchkiss Portative. I have a book written by Captain Julian Hatcher from 1917 that describes the gun and has operation and repair instructions.

I have a couple of those palm grips also. one Kent-Moore, one no-name knock off. Agree they work great. I wonder if K-M made a 1/2 that could be swamped into one of these or if they even made a 1/2 drive ratchet?

Stopped by a garage sale on the way home today because a friend of mine mentioned they were selling a drill press. The drill turned out to be a broken Chinese junk, but he did have some miscellaneous files for sale that I couldn't pass up.

A good day, driven mostly by a major block sale today. 20-30 streets involved plus a few other Yard sales, and a church Flea mkt...:thumbup::thumbup:

It's even a two post day!

I got another pair of Eifel PlierWrench Pliers(#3) theses have stamped instead of forged in markings, and includes two patent dates, and "something" EYEFEL... (really spelled that way)
Mod. 8 1/2" -35-Gr. 10to1. $500
And Made in USA By Amer. Plierench Corp'n
Chicago, Ill.

And on the far side:

Everything from here on was from the Block sales unless otherwise noted!

$3 for the Indestro 1-1/8 combo

Cents 25 for the Williams hammer tips, the pick, and the DIP grip tool.

attachment.php

A buck for the Stop sign (not regulation size, but pretty big in any case)

attachment.php

$5 for the NOS face shield, Duct Tape, Milwaukee clamp on handle (need to figure out what this fits), and the Proto Combo. as we as the "Wheel Buddy" (My name for it); a couple of lawn mower wheels, a couple of sliding barn door guides, and a carpeted piece of 3x3 (or so). set the edge of something heavy on it and its your "buddy" for moving what otherwise would be a two man job! pretty cool Idea I thought!

this is the last of the Block sale:

NOS US made Trailer running lights $4 all

attachment.php

And on to the last of the yard sales:

A salt lamp (needs a switched cord and a better bulb) ans an old school compass set made in Germany $4

attachment.php

a NOS aftermarket water cooler, and 5 pieces of 3" aluminum angle stock 24" long $10 all. The cooler may go on my compressor...

attachment.php

And the last piece: an old Side Board (the claim is it used to be in an old San Francisco Hotel :dunno: ) that, with some mods, will probably become a bathroom vanity in our Master Bath. The pic is over flashed the finish, while not pristine, (needs refinished and both side panels have veneer chipped off) is more like the right side than the left shows.

Thanks guys ,you had me curious so I went out in the shop and found a PalmGrip ratchet and the KAL palm ratchet from today. The PalmGrip one is much more comfortable/refined.The KAL one has sharper edges and is just overall a cheaper made unit. The KAL was bone dry and the PalmGrip had grease remnants circa WWII.Now both are cleaned and re-lubed with Superlube. They are both smooth but the PalmGrip is light years ahead in ergonomics. Tomorrow I may try and get some side by side pictures.

Meh. I'll be upstate on Saturday, and this one isn't "on the way".

This one is, though :evil

https://www.estatesales.net/NH/Tilton/03276/1255281
It was as good as advertised!

I left the scout camp during breakfast and drove up to the sale, getting there about 30 minutes after opening. There was not a huge crowd of people, surprising considering there's a flea market nearby. The main shop area was classic Old-Farmer, but with a twist--the guy apparently worked at a machining company at one point. There was a lot of good stuff still there after the first wave.

In the first dark corner I come to, I see a long curvy shape in the shadows. I reached gingerly into the cobwebs and pull these two monsters off of their nails.

I don't collect DOEs, but I couldn't leave behind a pair of enormous Brooklyn-era Williams S-wrenches. They're about a hundred years old. It only got better from there.

As I moved down the wrecked workbench, I came to a big Columbian 604 4" vise. I didn't expect to see it still there, especially at the $50 asking price. Underneath the vise was a Kennedy 2-drawer middle chest with some bric-a-brac. Next was a tool cabinet and another dark corner, where I picked up a handful of DBE wenches and a Ridgid 24" pipe wrench (handle's a little bent). Continuing down the third wall, I came to a Kennedy machinist chest stack with a "$40 w/o contents" tag. A quick check of the contents (Starret calipers, machinist tooling, etc) sent me in search of the proprietress of the sale. We settled on $80 for the Kennedy top box, both mid-chests, and the contents. Oh, and the top box came with the key clipped to a magnet on the side! :rocker:

"How much room do you have on the bench vise?" I asked. "I can do $40," she said. "I'll do that," I said!

I continued to scratch around that side of the workshop, pulling out the railroad screw jack from way back under a table next to the wood stove and the big spud wrench from a pile of rods and other heavy metal.

Then, I moved to the other side of a big yellow tractor and started down the fourth wall, where I found another Kennedy chest. After opening drawer after drawer of machinist tooling, I picked up the whole thing and carried it to my pile. When I asked for a price, the lady called over some of her male support staff, who checked the drawers and told her there was some good stuff in there. She asked $75 for the chest and contents, and I countered with a $100 for the chest and all the rest of the tools. "Sold!"

My pile included these cool Williams hex drive socket wench extensions, one a 964a and the other a size-changing extension marked "Special".

I passed on a nice 1940s Craftsman table saw with a huge 1 hp motor. I wish I had room in my shop for it, but such extras will have to wait for my shop addition.

Found a big sale, lot of goodies, missed some deals as I didn't think he would come off the marked prices, but I cant complain.

Grabbed a 1/3 HP block grinder, looks like he added a dedicated guide on the left. This was out of a big time wood worker so not sure what he was sharpening on it.
Aluminum Columbian wood vise
Pony 3 way clamps
Some dividers
Small Crescent wrench
Black Diamond files
Pipe jaws for unknown vise
Brass Grease gun
Vintage wood gouges Knott and Son, DR Barton, RI Sorby, Buck Brothers.

Spent a good bit of time moving 2 good size staghorn ferns. Hope to sell one to cover the cost of both.

Pretty good day !

Brian

$15 for the lot.

Misc buckles

Reed 403.5. No Letter after the number

Fantastic sale, based off what was left, I couldn't imagine what was there.

That Reed is an older (early war/prewar) vise. (round head screw)

And $15 all? you STOLE the Reed...

Today was a decent day,
Got a Coleman heater, Coleman model 501 stove( was a recall by Coleman), stack of disston and superior hand saws, magic yeast box with NRA on the side, snap on hammer handle, and a Yankee 301A. Paid $70 for it all.

You guys are killing it this weekend !
Plenty of suckage abounds.

A $15 Reed !
A vise and a pile 'o loaded Kennedys !
A lathe with a big pile of tooling !
A water cooler that can be converted to air !

You guys aren't making it easy for me to stay out of the game.

I spent my day trying to clean out one of my storage units so I can get rid of one of them. Took a 16' trailer load of furniture and stuff to the Epilepsy Foundation to donate and have another load to take to the transfer station (dump) on Monday.

All I can say is you really really ****.
My little lathe was a good deal but that is a vortex inducing amazing deal. The tooling I could see alone is worth twice the price. The lathe came free. Well done Joe.

Good score Brian. Which sale was that? I didn't find any good tool sales today.

Looking good folks!

Flea market finds:

a couple Proto wrenches, 1" and 1-7/8"

Sockets-Mac, Blue Point, Craftsman

Blue Point USA 3/8 ratchet

3/8 aluminum spinner handle ( not sure what it came off)

S-K 1/4 socket handle

Armstrong Special wrench stamped "TYLER" :dunno:

Unior Germany pliers

old Blue Point DBE

Osborne pliers- didn't research them yet

and a Petrometer-Kind of cool looking, I thought it would make a neat wall hanger.
