Finally hit a couple good sales after a long dry spell. Found some S-K tools and other things I've been looking for, added to the Diamond Calk collection, the Frankenstein wrench and 15" adjustable made my day. 15 bucks for all too.

Mak - great score! Got some low pressure happening there!

I'm also seeing an Indestro Ratchet? 1/4" drive?

And isn't Ampco a company that makes Aluminum Bronze tools? Nice find on the Ball Peen head! EDIT: Hmm Aparently also made BeCU so be careful with any abrasive on that hammer head!

And SF that is out and out - suckage.

Thanks for the info on the hammer head, good to know. The Indestro ratchet only works in one direction, probably just needs cleaning. I found this in a newer neighborhood, was surprised to score any older tools

It's been awhile since I last posted but I'm still in the game. All of these came yesterday from my favorite pawn shop. Total price was less than $1 per tool.

Highlights include a Plomb 1/2 drive, 1" War Finish socket, a Plomb 1/2 drive, 31/32" socket, a near mint Craftsman 3/8 drive RHFT ratchet, Craftsman "long C" DOE wrenches, Craftsman Be & "circle H" sockets, lots of upgrades and fillers for my socket sets, and a never before seen (on GJ) Craftsman round shank, 3/8" x 7/16" double box end wrench.

See post here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6138830&postcount=1010 for the Double Box End wrench.

Outlawmws:

I used a magnet on the Union Medal to test and so think your right, as it appears to be silver.

I've bounced an email off to Machinist Union, in hopes they may have something in their archive on the La Crosse, Wisconsin June 17, 1899 date.

BTW, thks for sharing info on the briefcase lock, as will store that for future reference.

Mike

Mike, did you ever hear back from the union?

Late arriving to an estate sale today. I didn't see any tools listed nor pictured in the ad for the sale but I found a partial set of Bonney wrenches in a very nice tool rool. Missing the 7/16", 7/8", 15/16", and 1" but with a duplicate 3/4".

Hey guys I know this isn't a normal post here but I thought since I picked this up at a sale this summer it would fit. Earlier this summer I picked up a piece of bowling alley lane from a local bowling alley being turned into a grocery store. Well this is what I did with it. The lane was 42" wide and really too wide for a one sided bench so I cut it down and used the cut off piece as a shelf over the top help up by bowling pins All wrapped in cherry stained oak.

I think the hard part will be picking a vise or 2 to sit on it :headscrat

While everyone else is "oohing and ahhing" (and rightly so) over the beautiful work you did with that table top, I'm left speechless by the fact you have a completely empty corner somewhere in your shop or basement to place this table! Amazing!

Sorry guys, I've been absent but occasionally checking in lately.
This week has been spent planning my mother's funeral for tomorrow and getting the house ready for company.
Hoping to be more active soon.

Will you (or someone) start a poll once you get some nominations?

Sure!

Poll, or at least counted votes should probably be limited to people that have posted in the Garage sale threads...

Jake: sorry for your loss and my (our) prayers are sent. keep your chin up and know that she will be still talking to you forever. best wishes too on the process.

ALL: so i've been anviless and didn't know that i would be after selling a few a couple years ago that it would take this long to find one. i don't have all the details yet, but the seller made my bench vise deal a bit sweeter with about 40-50 pounds of old iron.

i found a few tools today and i'll post them up after cleaning them up a bit. this bench probably will sit under my metal lathe if i ever find a nice old one.

It was cleared for construction .... Every thing was moved into my basement and other shop and shed. My shop was so full I have to expand into my basement garage. This is an attempt to organize my chaos ...

First of all, sorry to hear of your loss Jake. I lost my Mom back in August. You'll be in our thoughts.

Hey guys, I haven't kept up with my finds so I'll try to get caught up.

Today was a simple pawn shop find during a last minute trip to the east coast for work.
A cable wire grip and a Klien driver with a couple of bits. $ 3.

Topop101, great job on bench, looks really nice.

And I also will vote for you to host next years thread.

OK, on to my purchase earlier this week.

This was a CL find that I ignored at first ( all of 5 mins.). I started figuring what would fit in it and I think I can replace two file cabinets and a Formica wall cab with this and have room left over. That's the logical part. The other part is I just want it!!
Based on the labels, and looking over bearings, it don't appear to of had a hard heavy life.
It's a 60" wide, 50" tall with casters.

A fair amount of dividers.

A nice deep drawer.

I bought from a salvage place that deals with military surplus/scrap. I was asking about others and he showed me this one.
7c37302db371add97190e36f28c37622.jpg

This one was damaged, racked pretty good and he offered for $50.

He also had brand new handles for the Vidmars , $ 1 each.
8d812682acfa5a270ce34900b250d87e.jpg

These two take my collection to a total of 10 cabinets, about 79 drawers at approx $36 per drawer. This spans from my first one in 1985 until now.

Now, just need to get these lubed up and painted in into operation.

Haven't been out in a bit, found a few fun things
1) challenger/Stanley ratchet
2 craftsman be 1/4 ratchet
3)set of xcelite but drivers, gotta love the never been used jewel like handles
4)oldish pair of husky vice grips
5) odd multibit screwdriver pat#2472392, that and made in USA are the only markings

The xcelite does have a vomit smell about it 😛

Jake: I'm sorry to hear that your mother finally passed after her long illness. I know you spent nearly all of your day close to home caring for her, and she was blessed that you could. With that family duty complete, I hope you get more time for you.

Blessings.

Thanks to all for your condolences and thoughts.
This site has been, and will continue to be, an escape from my reality. My mental "safe place" in the ether, if you will. Over the past few years it's helped me keep my sanity while harsh realities of life weighed me down. Spending a little time each day with all of you has helped me continue to do what must be done. One responsibility is now done, but others still continue, so I'll still be here.
I really do appreciate your support.

Well, time to put on the suit and get this over with.

(PS - I still managed to win a online auction lot last night. Not much in there, but it scratched an itch. I have to pick it up tomorrow. I'll post when I can.)
