Thanks for the nice comments on my hall wall guys! there are more pics and shadow boxes, and all except that center pic have the old maps as backgrounds. All are areas we have hunted or camped, and are from a couple of maps that have that "used" look as they were my users for years.

The middle Eagle Claw trout pole was my mainstay for quite some time. but I've moved to lighter gear. Not seen is a pair of antique binoculars I picked up. Some of the lures are ones I've used, some I picked up here and there.

WrenchAt old grain elevators before every one had there own engine to move railcars into place to either load or unload they had these tugers located at the dump pit. The RR would drop the cars in place then pull the engine and other cars that were finished. The operator would drag the cable out to hook to the lead car then winch it into place. While it was unloading the cable was hooked up to the second car . They would repeat these for every car. Not much cable required . Just a car length plus at few wraps. Most elevators have demoed these but a few in my area still have them as backup .

I picked these up this month the the Dewalt 925 first off Craigslist for $100.
While researching the tool I found Garage Journal forums and this thread in particular. I have spent hours going through, with thoughts of "I have that, I used to have that, and I want that and that and that".
I also picked up in the last two weeks the Walker-Turner 900 series drill press and the Dunlap mini drill press for $50 and $10 respectively, both from CL.
I live and work in Maryland and it is nice to find a community of people who share my interest in quality well built utilitarian objects, and good deals.

Very nice find on the drill presses. Did the Walker-Turner come with the vise as well? If so, you've earned a "you ****" on your first post!

The old guy threw in the vice, he had an industrial machine shop in his basement and his wife just wanted him to make some space. I took the only machine that could come out of the shop without a rigging crew.

I too am liking that wall Outlaw. Didn't know you fished- my favorite past time. Anyways, I picked up this anvil a while back for a dollar. The hammerhead was part of another small purchase, probably cost me another 50 cents. The handle came off of a small ball peen hammer I paid another $1 for. I sanded the handle, gave it some shape with my refurbed 1940s era belt sander, and stained it.

Really cool little anvil and that hammer came out great! Im gonna keep my eye out for one next season I think.

Went over to the nearest HfH Restore this morning. I made sure I was the first one in the door when they opened for the week. This store is hit or miss for tools. Mostly miss, as the section is chock full of trash and junk imports with the occasional gem.

Not today.
The hunt through the piles started off slow with the usual dross, but quickly turned into an Easter Egg Hunt as nothing was organized. My stash kept growing as I rummaged in the piles. Eventually my holding hand started to cramp, so I searched for a box to put things in. Found a dandy and it too came home with me.

My total was much more than I was expecting to spend. But worth it.
The pile with the box was $56.84 w/tax.

A few weeks ago I picked up these two fiberglass military mobility bins for $100 for both. The short one is 84" wide, 42" deep and 30" high. The tall one is 62" wide, 42" deep and 60" tall. These sizes max out a 463L aircraft cargo pallet which is 84" x 104" of usable space. This would involve two 62" wide bins back to back giving the 84" width and the 84" wide bin would be against the sides of the 62" bins. Plus the 30" high bins can nestle on top of the 60" bins for 90" of height and maximum capacity.
Years ago I had picked up 4 casters for these bins. I knew what they were and was going to use them for my yet-to-be built welding table. They slide right in and are held by spring loaded pin The casters have real good swivel locks but no brakes. I put them to use on the tall one.

Sunday I found this Craftsman Crown drill case and 1958 Craftsman 1/4" drill for $10. The wood drill bit with interchangeable bits is Craftsman too.

Today I got one of my Christmas presents to myself in the mail, NOS Wil-Burt Versa Vise - Columbian Gyro Vise accessories. Four additional bases and a rarely seen clamp on base.

BB: I'm happy the Will Burt NOS parts found a good home or one that will distribute them correctly. i like that clamp a lot and i think CRS has a mount that hides inside your bench that would be great additions to my Versa vises.

Congratulations 3bay!

I'll try to contribute to the thread before the end of the year but I've been working on buying a house with a 30'x60' detached garage so my money spending has been nixed for awhile. We are down to negotiation on roof repair of the house. Won't close on the house til February if everything goes well.

I just got them today! There's still at least 5 more in the milk crate I pulled them from, but even I have my limits. I've got a metric crapload of clamps already, but US-made Wiltons?-I had to grab them. My Apprentice toolkit from when I was a Diemaker came with a pair of 2" and 4" Wilton clamps, and I still have those, along with all the various old clamps I got from my Grandfather-those are serious antiques. I have more than a few Chinese ones,also, but those are relegated to my toolbox at my cottage.

As I said elsewhere I found these by accident on a Woodworker's supply company website while researching Versa-Vises. The bases were not too badly priced but the clamp was a bit more. I don't want to give away prices since I plan on selling some of these but I found a price list for Gaydash Industries which was the last maker of USA cast Versa Vises where that clamp on base was $38 about 10 years ago. I paid more than $38 for the clamp on base.

Gaydash Industries quit making the Versa-Vise mostly because the Chinese ones had come out selling for about $50 and it was costing them about the same for just the castings. I bet the Versa-Vise has a better quality of cast iron than the Chinese ones.

As I read back over the last few posts, I thought that they are a perfect snapshot of what I like about this thread: not just post after post of a pile of tools on someone's bench, but stories of the finds, discussion about the tools (questions AND answers) and the textual backslaps, attaboys and yousucks. It's the latter stuff that makes this a far more interesting thread. I know I have learned more here than any place else on GJ. Thanks to everyone that participates!

What is kind of funny, I have a 77yr old neighbor down the street. He will tell me the same stories over and over like it's the first time every time. His memory is pretty spotty...

WOW!!! Built like a tank, you are not kidding. That's an amazing box with some hidden history I'm sure. Just looking at the thickness of the axle brackets and other support pieces say this thing was built for tough jobs somewhere. I hope you find out more about its past.

And, thanks for the link to the vintage cabinet thread. I've been searching for one like this but had not found it yet and will enjoy reading and contributing. I love vintage storage cabinets.

Drives, I just noticed the "hitch plate" on the handle. I'll bet that box was towed around, maybe by a forklift or other slow speed transport at maybe a 45 degree angle? (what is the angle of the plate/handle?) I'm thinking Airfield work and the hooks were for heavy extensions tow straps or such. the hitch on the towing vehicle would have needed to be fairly high as well. Heck other than the drawers, (and maybe them depending on what was in them) they could have accessed it in the towed position.

Outlaw: i was thinking something like that and the plate at the top is at an angle that is maybe 45 degrees. if you might come across a picture of one in use i'd love to see it posted here or on the metal cabinet thread. thanks for your input as always. also since you don't have your own thread PER SE here's my hopes that you have an even better 2017 than 2017. cheers and Merry Christmas.

Sales have been dead around here and I expect them to be for the next 3-4 months too. However, I did buy something that'll help me get to sales and haul stuff around.

Been wanting a truck ever since I got my licence 15 years ago, and finally got one. 2003 GMC Sierra Z71, very good shape and very well equipped with only 151,000 km's on it.

My '07 Cobalt wasn't passing inspection anymore and seeing as my GF has a good car I didn't see the need for us to have two small cars anymore.

Well, GJ done it again to me. I helped get to our goal and then bar is raised higher. Then I go out to finish off shopping and stop in a Restore and found this.

A nice 1/2 HP, just missing one tool rest. I'm thinking I really don't need another...........

I'll just have to find two more different wheels to put on it.
