Man I rarely bother going to flea markets around here... Bins and bins of cheap chinese junk... Anything that is USA made they separate them out and slap a price so high it's ridiculous...

First sale of the year for me. Didn't do great, but didn't do bad. I got the following for 60$:

1. Encro Arbor press
2. Parts washer
3. ludell 2# rubber mallet
4. 6 old USA pipe wrenches. I don't collect these but they are cool and I couldn't pass them up for the price.
5. Jacobs No. 34 chuck
6. an unknown clamp of some sort.

They had a Delta Milwaukee drill press that I almost got for $40 but they decided not to sell it as I was paying. I didn't need it, but would own it for 40$, it looked pretty old.

Sure, absolutely online yard sales count. Very nice.

Thanks for the comments guys. No, Jake, no balls with the jacks. I had to think about that one for a minute, lol. They were a bit underpriced at $3 each though from what I see now. I thought they were, and they looked darn cool.

One more bottle pic. I seem to always be most proud of the hidden treasures I find.

maybe consider putting a light in them as it could be cool to hang from the ceiling

I hit up one estate sale, grabbed these wrenches, mostly so it wasn't a wasted trip. No, I didn't pay the marked prices -- I gave $5 for all 5. Two are duplicates, but I'll use them to, hopefully, complete some sets and sell off some surplus.
The brand doesn't show very well on that lower one. It's a Duro-Chrome. Could be unplated wartime production, or maybe just really, really dirty.
Granco is a brand I hadn't seen before. They are pretty generic looking wrenches but well made - could be Proto/Challenger or Thorsen private labeled. Made me think of the W.T.Grant variety store. Don't know if they ever sold tools.

Even with nice clear weather and the temps rising a bit, it's still pretty slow, especially for tools... You guys are doing much better than I

All I for tool-wise with 4 stops planned, was a near full (one bit missing) Powr Kraft drill index, and an Irwin No. 900 screw starter. The Index was $2 at one stop, ant he rest came from an Estate sale I should have gone to first instead of last...

Ten bucks at the Estate sale, for the Irwin, two watches, two chains (I think the tiny one is gold, even if the charm is plated) one with a 1942 mercury head dime cut out; a couple of lapel pins, and not shown as they are hidden from SWMBO for a few weeks, an Italian made sterling silver bracelet with earnings, in a box, and a small pin of a red rose with gold stem and leaves.

An overall shot

attachment.php

the scissors which still have a lot of the gold plating and a lot of detail. Once the blades were cleaned up they turned out to be decently sharp as well!

and the rest of the bling:

Twertsy, that (K) Craftsman ratchet looks awesome! And the frankenstein SK ratchet is no slouch either. Nice.

Outlaw, that Mercery dime necklace is really cool and those scissors are a work of art.

I made it to a second hand shop today. Found a couple of shiny Craftman BE and (U) 1/4" drive sockets and a 15 gallon shop can. $25 :rocker: Been looking for a good shop can for a while now.

Picked this up today, pretty good shape for a '91, no real rust to speak of. The only real issue being the front end damage. and milage witch is over 400,000. It runs great and is all in all very clean. Even came with a free lawn mower!

Junk Man,
That will be a good truck for bringing home many future garage sale treasures. It's in pretty good shape for the age and mileage.

So a week or two ago on CL I saw some postings in the Garage Sale section about an estate sale where the guy was basically going to bid off each room of the house, the garage, and the shed... I have no idea how it went, I'm assuming pretty decent since all the tools and stuff from the pics were gone.

A day or so after the "sale" he changes his postings to "everything for a dollar or free"... So I decide to go by and check it out.

Basically the guy's 92yr old father (living alone) had a stroke and they just moved him up with some other family out of state. So they were trying to clean out the house.

Everything was picked over pretty clean, but I saw this little jewel sitting in the corner on a workbench in the garage. It was covered in dust and dirt but didn't look beat up so I grabbed it and stuck it in a little box I found. I just cleaned it off today and took it apart and realized it was an old Craftsman mini hand plane! Original paint and all, score! I can't believe nobody else noticed it!

His dad built some really detailed (and rather large) model ships. I can only imagine him spending hours on end using this little tool to shape wood for some of those.

Also found a couple old weedeaters (from like the 80's or 90's) in the shed, gave them to my 77yr old neighbor and he was thrilled as always. Along with a stack of vinyl records.

Grabbed some pieces of scrap metal, an anti-fatigue mat in the garage, a decent roll of 12-2 romex (was in the dumpster actually, but never used), 1 gal sprayer, a couple screwdrivers, some small drill bits, an old Black & Decker drill bit sharpener, and a few other odds & ends...

All for free too...

Just goes to show, if you look in all the drawers and all the corners, there is always at least one good thing to find.

Well only one sale today but it was 8 estates sales rolled into one warehouse . I bought some items just for display ... the set of iron chickens... I have a collection of iron bugs to feed them! Real chickens would have cost much less . 60 for the set :scared: but the grand kids always check out my shelves looking for my new "stuff" so this should give them something to check out.

Also picked an industrial chair on rollers! Been wanting one for a few years but just couldn't find one in good enough shape that wasn't priced 3 digits. This one set me back 35 and stopped by hobby lobby and gave them 10 more dollars for some pad and covering for the seat. So with a new paint job and seat covering it will come out right about 50 bucks in the end.

There are 2 sets of half round , tapered , extra fine files. One set is Swiss made the other is English. All for a buck. Also picked up a screw lock, pretty ornate but no markings so it may be a repop :headscrat Hoping maybe Jeff can shed some light on it

I spent a total of 175 on every thing today. Keeping most things so probably be lucky to break even on the rest. The Wilton 5" vise for $20 will help .

That CMan tool box looks in really good shape, how much it set you back?

Eight bucks. I would've waited for half price day tomorrow but I didn't think it was going to be there. It's solid no rust no dents has the tray all the latches and a great logo

Topop - I have a similar chair that I pulled out of someone's trash. A new coat of paint and I dragged it all over eastern MA on jobs for 20yrs. It's still being used in my shop and is my favorite place to dump my **** when I need to think on the next project or scoot from one side of the bench to the other.

In the eighties and nineties they couldn't trash them fast enough. Now they want $75 for them at the flea market. Go figure.

She'll serve you well. Good find.

Went to The Big Train Show in Springfield MA today. 4 exhibition buildings full of various scale model trains and vendors. There's a new tool guy there this year (I think the old one may have passed away). Almost all Chinese imports. The prices were higher than the last guy, but still useful stuff for modeling work.

Spent $26 on 3 small metalcraft hammers. The shapes are similar to body hammers, but in the 2oz range (or Chinese metric equivalents). Good for ultra light metal work.

They'll go in the Kennedy boxes that I use for model work in my bedroom.

EDIT - Oop, I was wrong, the hammers were made in India. Soooo much better.

Nope, left the Masonite so I don't get too comfy.

Here's what she looks like now.
(yes, I painted my name in so she wouldn't walk away while I was on the job)

Stopped at an antique store today, of all places to find a good deal, and snagged a cardboard box full of sockets, marked "all for $12".

Pic 1 - shows the range of stuff in there, bottom batch is foreign.

Pic 2 - USA mixed: Thorsen, Husky, Penens, MAC, Snap-On, Williams, None Better, S-K, and Herbrand

Pic 3 - all Proto and Proto Los Angeles

Pic 4 - a few antique pressed steel sockets

And a few boxes, saved from the local Habitat Restore last week:

Pics 1-3: well beat-up metal fishing tackle box marked "1/2 drive" for $5.00. Inside was a near brand new S-K 1/2-drive ratchet, with a handful of sockets, most being S-K but also a Husky, an Armstrong, and a couple no-names. Well worth $5 for the lot!

Pics 4-6: also snagged a Kennedy T-18 tackle box, for $10. The outside leaves a little bit to be desired, but there is no rust-through or dents, and everything works well. Inside is nice and brown paint as it should be. Former owner must've given it to the next former owner, and left him a note, see the last pic.

Slow start for the 2017 GJGS thread--we're 200+ entries down from this time last year. There just aren't many sales with tools to be had around here, especially with my "retired-picker-it's-gotta-be-on-the-way" requirement. I hope things pick up here and everywhere else.

Nice scores Top! I have picked up 5 of those industrial chairs over the years, all of mine have padded seats. Most I think I ever paid was $50 for a pair of matched chairs that supposedly came out of the old Bellsouth plant here.

Heck yeah ! Please do. I've never seen a screw lock this ornate either. It doesn't open but the screw key does tighten. The shank is wore on the under side from years of use and the inside is caked pretty heavy with grease. So it could just be gummed up but I'm not doing anything to it until I know more about it.
Thanks!

Thanks BB . Mine is under resto as we speak ! They are pretty rare in my area and when they come up they go high. I still have a need for one more so hopefully I'll score it this year!

Smoke, those Weather head bins are great work horses! I have two sets that I've been using for about 30 years, I'd guess them to be about 40 years old or more.

Picked this off of CL for $30. Ran but was rough and smokey. Drained the old mix and refilled with fresh Stihl 50:1 and then ran excellent! Should make my plowing route go faster!

BobCat: nice find. It still surprises me how poorly an engine can run just due to older gas. And surprises me even more that many people will just give up. I get all of my lawn mowers that way.
