Tool_Master, you ****! I'm determined to find a CM speeder in the wild, one day...

Nine and I made another trip to the sale we went to last weekend. They've cleared some of the hoard out but every time we went picked through a room, we seemed to find something else that we missed the last time. For $110 I picked up:

Several drill bits, end mills, reamers
Twist knot wire wheels
Cut off discs
Grinding wheels / discs
Ridgid tubing benders
Battery terminal crimper
Lot of Perma coil / heli coils
Slide pull hammer
Pack of 10" sanding discs
Several boxes of machine tool inserts
Three metal cutting saw blades
Hydraulic quick connect ends
Pack of 10" sanding discs
Delta zipper file
Craftsman molding cutter set
Misc. new bearings
Other misc items

And the star of the show was the first thing I picked up...a three pound nickel ingot. It was odd that it was sitting in plain sight in a room that I'd been in a number of times. Odd that somebody would have dug it out and not bought it.

Ah this is the set I got. Second pic is from a couple of days ago as no good sales have been on - a wooden handle western auto carbon no.2 Phillips I picked for a buck at the local pawn shop that has had some decent stuff. Had to throw in the screwdriver to make it a legit post as the set was end of last year.

I looked in my 1960 and 1966 Craftsman catalogs. There is a 12 pc "Midget" set and a 16 piece. The pictures show the plastic insert, the all metal cases are likely earlier.

12 piece: 7 six point sockets 7/32" to 7/16", 2 eight point sockets 1/4" and 5/16", flex handle and crossbar.

16 piece added the "flying V selector" ratchet, 3" and 6" extensions and a slide bar handle.

The 1969 catalog shows the same sets but the case is now the plastic one. The ratchet is the new quick release one.

The 1973/4 catalog shows the same sets as 1969 but the ratchet is now the RHFT, a nice upgrade.

If you come across a case that only has 8 socket holes that is a Metric case and was a 15 piece set with 8 sockets 4 to 11 MM, flex handle and crossbar, ratchet, 3" and 6" extensions and a slide bar handle.

Too bad that is not pure nickel, 4X is bearing babbit with .5% nickel added.
4X Nickel Babbitt – Similar to Genuine A Grade 2 but with added Nickel for higher speed applications, such as re-surfacing Babbitt Bearings.
– 87.5% Tin, 7.5% Antimony, 4.5% Copper, .5% Nickel

It's still expensive if you have to buy it new.

Well I finally got nice weather and a weekend day off so I went to a big flea market an hour away. Several small tool tables and one huge vendor I could have stayed at all day!

Walked away with a buncha PLOMB from all over the market, then a small PARK toolbox full of stuff. Got it home and found it had a small black box I hadnt seen. opened it up to a brand new OS Thorson 1/4 socket set! Another had some 1/4 Husky stuff. Also found matching Thorson 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets! Turned out to be a good day and spent around $50.

That mini ball pein looks just like my first hammer I got when I was a kid. I still have it, rarely use it but I love it. Any better pics?

Aww, don't tell me you found the V selector. Good score.
Those seem hard to come by. I just think they are a nice looking, and nice working tool.
There was one on CL, (vintage 3/8" set!.....for $10.00!!!!!) Not real far, But probably could have shipped cheaper than the gas back and forth.
I was e mailing the guy, But he told me to F off, and quit bothering him.
I'm thinking what did I do?
I posted the e mail(s) here, The guys here contended I sounded like a scammer. I don't know.
Think If I were trying a scam, it would be on more than a 3/8" $10.00 Item.............lol
Now I do have a 3/8" flying V flex head that is nice.
I "Had" the 1/2" and it was MY Grandfathers, (Makes me all that much madder) but another mechanic stole it last place I worked.
My snap on Compression gauge went missing too. Whole plastic case and all. so, it's not like I sent it out.

Had my snap on flex ratchet, my Die grinder, a Mac Tach/Cylinder balance machine and some Mac 1/4" drive extensions stolen from another place.
Boss Caught the guy, with break pads from the back room in his lunch box, and fired him.
Tools stopped coming up missing both places, after the two guys were gone.

:scared: This was day 4 of a 6 day auction ... day 5 & 6 will be the 25 and 26. All antique hand tools. That one may really hurt the check book :(
Today I gambled on some really cool stuff I know just enough about to get my self into trouble.
Several Pierce Arrow pieces the rock. Or at least I thought they did. Old advertisement pasted to and old crate  all original jack and handle to a pierce Arrow. and maybe the best piece is the logo from the radiator mounted with a serial number plaque and a pierce arrow society badge, porcelain !

Other stuff was and Case IH ratchet with a couple original sockets . ratchet is dated 1914. about 5 years after the first interchangeable socket was invented.

Other jacks are 2 Ford jacks and a "reliable" brand one. These are real nice

2 tomahawks. One may be a décor piece but it's well done. The other is straight up the real deal. No markings. But it's forged and rough at that. still has coal slag in some pits.
Old early valve lapper,
4 oil cans- singer patent marked and dated eagle Feb 27, 1923
Texaco porcelain sign- prob repop
Pair of small ball peens
pair of home made knives. One has a copper guard
all brass caliper
old protractor

Just a couple of things. First is a Wright 4400 "tootsie Roll" ratchet I picked up for $3. The ratchet mechanism wouldn't work too well, and sometimes spun freely. I took a gamble on it and took it apart. Sure enough, the pawl was filled with hardened grease, as were the grooves in the handle. After I scraped all that crud out, and washed the rest out with brake cleaner, it works like new.
The second is an old Vice Grips that came in a bunch of old muzzle-loading bullet molds and stuff that was given to me. It has a 1942 patent date on it, and doesn't have the "flipper" lever on it (never had one) . I gave it a quick wire brushing with one of those toothbrush-type brushes, but it needs more attention.

Pretty much brand new Dremel 4000 from Facebook market place - been wanting one of these for a while . Main reason to work on polishing up some rims that I got from Craig's for the truck. Dremel $40 / rims 300.
IMG_3864.JPG
IMG_3338.JPG
Probably could have got the rims cheaper but I have been hunting these old dodge ones for a while with not much luck.

Topop those are some nice Pierce Arrow items. Sounds like quite the auction.

Today I stopped at an antique shop and found a few ratchets and an interesting Snap On "special" wrench. Pics to come.

Love the Pierce Arrow stuff topop101. Back in the year 2000 some friends let me borrow their late 1930's Pierce Arrow so I could use it to chauffer my roommate and his bride from their wedding to their hotel. My roommates sister was riding in the front passenger seat and leaned out at every red light to work the wiper blades since we had a bit of rain and they were inop LOL!

I also got to drive their 1967 Shelby GT500 one time. Miss those days!

Hit an estate sale Thursday that looked interesting. Spent $29, first day, full price and no bargaining.

Pic 1 and 2: Grips-All vise with movable jaw for irregular objects, new Scotch double sided tape, Indestro Super DBE, Williams 1/2" combo, chinesium DOE, Craftsman ignition wrench, Utica parrot pliers, 2 small boxes of old style fuses, Beautyrest and Millers Falls tape measures for my collection, cheap c-clamp and some new sanding discs.

Pic 3: STP Radiator Treatment and Siloo Enginseal cans for my collection, Craftsman Angle Head drill attachment, the instructions have the Crown logo. The True Temper Flint Edge hatchet appears to be a shingling hatchet.

For some reason I didn't feel like going out to sales Friday or Saturday and I am glad I stayed home because a workbench with a Reed vise popped up on Craigslist about 75 miles away. Picked it up plus found a watchmaker's workbench there too. Just got back at 1030 PM so no pictures until I get them unloaded tomorrow.

Not much of any sales going on around my part of the world yet. but I did get out to one that looked promising. Not a bad haul for 20 bucks the lid has some dents but I think I can live with it. But now I need to find the bottom cabinet too match. Also picked up this little Craftsman hammer.

The Greenerd has a cool looking "wheel" handle but looks like it could get in the way of bigger stuff you are trying to get in the arbor press.

bisley45, I love the Craftsman toolbox and hammer!

I got the workbench with the Reed vise unloaded from my trailer today but worked for several hours on fixing the table legs, apparently it used to be solidly mounted to a floor somewhere and when it was moved the bottom of the legs was cut off with a torch, it was ugly and I cut the legs shorter and then added plates and nuts so I can make the feet adjustable.

The watchmakers workbench is still safely in the back of the Excursion out of the weather.

Bisley- Those CMAN hammers are cool. Somewhere in the Hammer Time thread I posted the 4pc set. Those I found at a yard sale quite a while ago. I remember I had never seen one before that day. One of my nicer actual yard sale finds.

As promised, pictures of the antique shop haul.

They got me for $27 on the four ratchets.
Williams 1/2", Husky 1/2", Wright 1/4", Plomb 1/4".

The Plomb has to be rebuilt, it is missing the screws, springs, and pawls. The gear is questionable due to rust. With a 3/8 conversion kit stashed away and thanks to some recent inspiration (across the web), this may be the solution. Not that I need another but it sure will go alright with the Proto version.

The big ratcheting wrench is the special Snap On I mentioned. After drooling over this thing numerous times and trying to forget about it for far too long, it was time to work out a deal. I'll admit I'm a bit  to say what it cost. Let's just say it was a fair discount from sticker price and worth it to me for an unusual piece. :)

It's 33 inches long and looks to be a 1-1/16". It looks barely used and I can only guess what it was for. Some industrial purpose. I have another big oddball SO wrench I picked up once and they seem to belong together.

Nice scores 3baygarage.

I looked in my 1967 Snap On industrial catalog but that ratchet wrench is not in there.

Cool stuff 3bay! I work in a factory running big machinery. We have a couple of in house made ratchets like that on every machine for single use purposes. Adjusting a set of big drive rollers mainly that tilt back and forth 45 degrees. Most are female type as the things that need adjusted usually have a male socket welded to it.

Yesterday's CL purchase an early model Ford flathead V8 engine. Pretty much complete except for carb and a few pieces. It was a cheap deal but I took the risk knowing it does not turn over. The price was right and I've always wanted to learn about these by taking one apart. So it will be an education even if it never runs again.
