Daggum, that's probably a $100+ ratchet?! Thou dost sucketh!

The bolt cutter is pretty cool!

I'm thinking the same thing, though based on it having a non-removable head and an odd part number, I'm not quite sure what it is yet. I started a thread here to see if anybody has any thoughts:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=355100

And while the bolt cutters are cool, they're in pretty rough shape. Into the garage sale pile they go :)

Bluebolt: Can't beat free!

I responded to a Craigslist ad today for miscellaneous chain and tools for $10. For that $10, I got the miscellaneous chain, a small casting net, an old come along, even older bolt cutters, and a huge 32" long Snap On 3/4" drive ratchet. It was gummed up but after cleaning it works perfectly fine.

I didn't realize radial arm saws required different blades than any other circular saws. How are they different?

Low or even a negative hook angle on the tips... Keeps the saw from wanting to pull itself.

An aggressive hook angle is good for ripping material fast (like on a table saw), but for cross-cutting you want less.

Correct. A circular saw and a RAS have the fixed plate differently with relation to the user. A circular saw is pushing the work into the plate, but the plate and the blade/motor are all attached, preventing the saw from "climbing" the work. Even if it were possible, the user should be standing behind the saw, and the saw would "walk" away from the user. Instead, what happens is that the saw would bounce back at the user, or the wood would b be pushed away. For a Radial arm saw, the motor and the table are not connected, so the saw can "climb/walk" towards the user on a pull cut, leading to people thinking they are unsafe. The hook angle helps determine how aggressive the pull is, so a low to negative hook is preferred. If it helps to think of it this way, I have never seen wood kickback on a cross-cut on an RAS, as the saw would move before the wood does (and the wood should be supported by a cut-fence in the direction it would be able to kick). Instead the saw "kicks".

If it needs a home and haven't found one yet let me know.

What I have gotten myself into?!?!?! So I see an ad on CL for ~1,000 Craftsman USA 3/8" sockets. Contact the person, it's actually a hair over 1,300 sockets, 3/8" & 1/2" drive... short, long, 6pt, 12pt & even 8pt....

They used to work at the Danaher plant in town before it closed and I guess was able to take home a bunch of stuff. After making sets for friends & family and trying to sell at garage sales finally wanted to sell the rest as one lot.

Even got a box with a bunch of CMan Industrial black oxide combo & DOE wrenches, in like 6 sizes... lol

They still have 1/4" drive sockets to go through and I don't know what other CMan stuff but will (hopefully) be contacted to buy those once they go through it all and take what they want.

Well I'm definitely going to take advantage of the situation. I think some TOP notch garage sales / estate sale/ cl/auction are in order to help me recover mentally...

I bought a tub of Craftsman sockets a few years ago for about $50. It was around 600 sockets I remember correctly. Took me a while to sort them all!

I picked up my next project for the garage. This will definitely keep me off of the estate sale/yard sale picking circuit for a while.

1960 Chevy Impala 2-door, 283-2bbl/Powerglide. Lots of rust--floor is gone, driver side rocker is nearly gone, perforations and dents everywhere, but all the trim is there. It needs a windshield, but the car in my avatar will serve as the sheet metal donor. $2600 cash, plus delivery to my door for a nominal fee. I hope to take delivery tomorrow.:bounce::bounce:
Well, she was delivered last night. I bought her from a guy who runs a small custom/hot rod shop in New Hampshire. (Found it on Facebook Marketplace). He bought three '60 Impalas from an estate and this was the third (and worst)--he'd already sold the other two. He was asking $4k, but after talking cars with him for half an hour, we settled on $2600 plus $60 to deliver it to my garage.

I've already decided to nickname her Ol Tetanus! She'll sit until my youngest goes off to college this fall. Then I'll strip her down and start on the rust repair. I'm debating whether to order all new floor pans and brackets at considerable expense or to just cut the floor and other parts it from my four door sedan. I have time to figure it out.

Jason,

I'm pretty sure this was the address: 1609 N Old Missouri Rd, Springdale, AR 72764

If you look at street view it shows an Apex Tool Group sign. Everything I read (and the sides of a couple bins I have) all say Danaher.

Found this link about a recent auction of Apex's equipment (which I'm assuming was there from back in the days).

EDIT - Pics: http://www.perfectionmachinery.com/auctions/photogallery/?Dealid=1263

I know they made sockets & wrenches there. I think they also made some allen wrenches from pics I've seen. But I'm guessing must be cold forgings? No mention about any furnaces. I also got a box of random Crescent screwdrivers, which I'm guessing was made there too.

Wish I thought about it towards end of last year, they might have had an inventory sale or something. Maybe boxes of wrenches will show up like all the CMan stuff does on occasion around here... lol

Finally got around to taking a pic of the wrenches Jake gave me "in trade" for the two Lyon drawers. Was able to remove most of the weld/grind marks from the Williams in the center. Thanks Again Jake!

well I found one I can hit tomorrow on a day I would normally be at work! It's a bit of a hike , about 60 miles each way but it beats sitting around watching daytime TV...:3gears:

Looks like some goodies at that sale. If it was near me I would prob avoid it as seeing everything has a sticker on it with with price. Never a good deal at those sales, looks like they searched everything.

A lot of good things on those tables, but I'd go straight for the narrow gray box with the drawers in the middle of pic43. Hope you have someone with you that can carry things for you.

For what prices I can see in the pictures they don't look too bad. I see eight dollars marked on a chain vise ! I would do that one all day long . Kind a high on the keen kutter stuff though but that's to be expected in my area

Guys, check out this cool Walker mechanical jack that's listed on Kijiji. It's been listed on and off for a year or so (if not more). He hasn't budged in price yet (wants 150$), and I neither have the room or funds for it but it's a very cool looking piece.

Those are cool jacks.. Sadly they're lo-rise by design.. He either thinks it's super rare--or over-paid for it when he intended to flip it.. It's an awful headache to hold onto something that long while trying to sell it and dealing with internet cheapskates! [emoji41]

Jason: i know i've got a few socket sets and wrenches and hand tools, but i'm not sure i've got as many as you picked up in one purchase. after reading your post i wasn't sure if you bought those 1300 sockets or not. did you?

also what generation are the Craftsmans? G, EE, VV, V or ??

Top: best of luck at the sale and maybe somebody there seeing your bandages and bruises will help you load all your purchases instead of your daughter having to carry them all. or is your 9 year old Grandson big enough to carry almost anything you buy now and does he get to come along?

Heck yes I bought them. And I'm waiting for her to get in contact with me about the 1/4" drive that she has. They aren't compete sets, just large batches of certain sizes. I would say you could make probably 1/2 a set of general sizes.

They are all G2/G2D... There used to be a Danaher factory in town till it closed down several years ago. I guess employees were allowed to take home whatever inventory was sitting around.

Planned my route this morning, one garage sale and 3 estate sales...

Glad I stopped at the garage sale first (and didn't even get there till after 9am)...

A super minty SK 3/8" metric socket set. It was missing the ratchet (and had a decent V craftsman in its place), also missing the 5/8" Spark Plug Socket. Fortunately I found a nice matching SK ratchet a while back that went perfect with this set. Still can't decide if I want to sell or keep... Paper insert has copyright 1983. :)

A Charles Parker 103 (3.5") stationary vise. $25... It's in very nice shape. I honestly probably could have talked him down, but I got a great deal on other stuff so I can't complain too much about it.

15" Proto Professional adjustable wrench, XCelite??, then an easco & truecraft Japan... Also in the middle was a Thorsen 77 ratchet. I think I paid $5 for all those...

A little hammer, pretty rusty (had it soaking in evaporust), but I could make out the horseshoe logo so figured for a couple bucks why not. I think it also says cast steel on it.

Went to the estate sales, high prices, not many tools, but really nice furniture. All I found was this little Eaglet oiler. Was happy to find one as my current little oiler leaks on the bottom... $1.25

Horse shoe logo may be Atha Hammers. They went out of business around 1910 or so. Nice find!
