Penny VICTORY!

Was in the area so I went by HD again with my plan ready. Well as I was looking at the screws I noticed a little red security tag sitting on a box of them. Oops... looks like someone stole something! So I take the tag to a cashier kid sitting on a pile of lumber waiting for someone to checkout figuring they should know about it. I also ask him if he can get a ladder and help me get a box of screws down. :D He said he would go find someone and have them help me.

About a minute later same kid comes around the corner dragging those huge step ladder things. We're talking about the weather and stuff and he gets the box I want and hands them to me to put in my cart. :bounce: Halfway there, now I just need to get checked out!

So I head over to the self checkout area, there's ONE other person checking out and she has a little girl in her cart that is occupying the sales associate! :3gears: So I rush to a register on the other side and start ringing everything up and shove my credit card into the machine! LMAO. I turn around and she's there offering to help ring-up the bags of fertilizer I had. Told her I got it all done already and just waiting for the CC to process.

Victory is mine!

Oh yeah, thanks to whoever posted about HD carrying Cherry Bomb again, that is awesome stuff, I used to have a little bottle of it I would carry in my truck.

There's still those 5lb boxes of 3-1/2" up there, but I didn't want to press my luck and I have a little box of them that I've used maybe a dozen of. They are still tempting me for only .01 though, lol.

You'll get there. I got 3 air compressors on one pallet down from the overhead before and out.

Side note. If you find any Bosch GLL2-45 self leveling lasers around you'll be happy with the price :)

4th... Just this is the largest item, and first that I had to get down from up in the rafters.

My store doesn't like to sell customer penny items so you have to sneak them out.
Some guys have worked up to like 6 tool boxes, tops and bottoms...had to be an inside job!!

It's definitely possible for a stores inventory to be that far off.

Last spring/summer I found a store that showed 38 of the M12 drill/hackzall combos. I spent a couple of hours searching for them over 6-7 trips and didn't find a single. The inventory count remained the same until it zeroed out.

It won't show on map? Just have to wander the store... At that price some of the associates might have decided to grab them...

Our store has some of those 24 packs of Philips bulbs if that's what you are talking about. They are at an okay price (I think it comes out to $1.75/bulb), not a penny yet... yet...

The bulbs were pennied at one store and still 10.03 everywhere else..Went through with 3 packs then again with four, I don't think the attendant cared cause she definitely saw, might go back tomorrow for more

Cheers

My local store showed the complete 48" cabinet for like $259.06 so keep an eye on them for .02/.03 prices!

I'm in the market for a new box so it would be hard to not just walk out with a complete one for <$300. I saw at least 6 at my local store this weekend so I'm going to try to check tomorrow.

Ohhh... Yeah I think they did the ecosmart a few weeks back at my store. I haven't seen any of the piles they had on clearance anywhere now that I think about it, just a few oddball ones in the clearance in the lighting area. They have the Philips non-dimmable 24pk's on clearance, and singles... But the 4pk's are regular price and in their usual spot??? Go figure... I've already replaced about 90% of the bulbs in my house with those, would be nice to change out the last few if I can do it cheap, only need maybe 12-18 I would guess.

I might have to go look around the lighting area and see if they have them up high then check the computer... ;)

Yeah I think it was a SKU changeover was all. I saw some other size in the same color and length but different number on the shelf. Probably just happened to be green because I would think most people would buy the yellow's.

They were the same at my store. The mark downs are on a per store basis. They are not the same across all stores which is why everyone recommends getting on one of the computers in the store. Stick to it, you will get the hang of it

The best advice, go back and read the old HD threads, all of them. You mgiht spend a few hours but it will also greatly help your chances of finding deals. I've saved thousands.

A lot has to do with older items that get replaced with updated models. Sometimes it's a slight revision, sometimes its just a new SKU. Like when you walk around the store and see things tagged "New Item!", that means the old item either sold out, is being clearanced out, or sent back to manufacturer. Sometimes you can find the "old" models shoved in the back of all the new ones, or up in the rafters. These are worth checking.

The only computer I've been able to use without being hassled is the terminal located by the automatic doors to the garden area (near the front / side of the store). Especially during winter right now nobody goes outside so it's low traffic, in the summer might be a different story.

If something is open, minimize it and you should see a menu showing various apps. Near the top under "Public Use" there is a "Price Checker" app, it loads a web page that is for your store only and it's different than the public website. You can search by SKU or Keyword (i.e.: Deck Screws), I try big brand names and various keywords for stuff I'm interested in and such and it will sort by lowest price (or you might have to choose it) but it will show items at 1 cent. Most are not in stock and gone, but take a picture with your phone and go look to see if you can find the SKU or Model number, more than likely it will be way up in the rafters.

The self checkout registers also have a "price check" button on the main page (usually you just click the start button without thinking but there are other menu choices).

Another good place to look is the clearance sections, items that end in .02 or .03 and have been sitting there a long time have a good chance of getting pennied out so I take pictures with my phone and check those SKUs on the computer terminal.

I still need to take some time and read all the HD threads myself, I'm learning as I go... When I lived in Houston I had a friend that worked there and he would just bring random stuff when he came to visit.

I picked up the last pack of HD straps in my store, they were hidden in another area. Grabbed 5 of the 2g roundup sprayers, need to clean my concrete patio this spring to seal it so this will be great.

Christmas stuff is 75% off.

My HD had bunch of the 2 gal sprayers (picked up 3). They had a 1 gal sprayer for $3 and change.

I picked up the 4.4 cu ft Magic Chel fridge also.

You're lucky if your local HD has a terminal that they let the customers use. Mine only has them behind the counters and won't let the customers use them. At first I thought they were just BS'ing me but it might be true at this store. Also, I notice that the employees are quick to swarm in on the good clearance deals when they show up, even hiding them sometimes.

My local home depot (Houston,TX) seems to be getting rid of a lot of mailboxes, this is the best deal I saw. Picked one up. They had different style mailboxes as well.

That's interesting. My store just added a computer, it's in the front part between the power tool and other tool aisles.

Second one at the pro desk with a small desk for people to use.

Grabbed some ratchet straps and a band clamp last night. Was hoping the straps would be voodoo but no luck. I can work with $1.25 a strap though.

Went through self checkout and both yellow tags triggered a "please wait for associate" message. Backed out and scanned the package bar codes and they came up with the tagged price. Is that typical? Tried to price check with the yellow but no luck with that either. Trying to make sure I didn't miss a penny deal somehow.

My HD has been clearancing out mailboxes too, but the prices are nothing spectacular. I was checking prices hoping they would drop to the .02/.03 point but they never did, most just disappeared one day and replaced with others. There's a few rubbermaid ones in the clearance section, hopefully those will drop eventually. I want to get one cheap to stick out by my garden to put some hand tools in for easy access.

My store employees are pretty nosy too, except like I mentioned that one terminal by the outdoor garden area, it's usually out of the way and low traffic. But the few times I've used the computer in the appliance area after about a minute an associate came up asking what I was doing and I said I was trying to find the weight for a ladder because I didn't want to walk all the way across the store to the ladder section to see if these hooks I had would hold it. Then he was nice and we looked via the regular website to find the info, which oddly enough the Werner 13' multiposition ladder didn't show up on the website (but another brand did), even though later I walked by the ladder area and they had about half a dozen of the werners... lol

If it's slow and nobody is around, the carpet/tile area in the very back of the store is usually low traffic and has a couple computers.

My pro desk & customer service doesn't have any terminals facing outwards, but also there's always employees hanging out in that area so I wouldn't want to sit there digging through the system.

For some reason the desk at the Windows/Doors ALWAYS has at least one person sitting there... I think they must sit on facebook or something.

If they ask what you are doing, just say you are trying to price check and locate (insert item here) saying you thought it was on sale recently.

Chandelier. I just noticed the tag was generated/printed in Oct. Could very well in voodoo. Anyhow the info is on the tag for anyone who needs to update their lights decor or for resale.
