Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

Stopped by my home depot today and they said they have no public kiosks for price checking :(
Just use one in the appliance section. That's mainly where i use them the most.
It seems in Illinois there are never any deals lol. Looking at all these deals, I can never rind any in Illinois sadly.

False. I got my 60 gallon compressor in Illinois last time they were cleranced out.

when searching it ONLY brings up kitchen and appliance items and does not show prices. Perhaps in cheaper places to live away from Chicago and it's suburbs there are discounts. I rarely if ever find any items of value discounted. Either they get sent to other stores, employees take them or maybe they don't restock opened items I don't know. It seems in the more expensive places to live in our area there are rarely discounted items. This includes the other big box stores as well as the tractor supply where everyone else shows reduced price items. I think the biggest discount I saw was maybe 10%. Most of the discount tags also didn't have dates. Out of the ones that did, the oldest was about 4 months old. Perhaps the shelf space is too valuable in my area to have them putting these items out?

One user mentioned an application kiosk, is there some way to ID this? I;ve not seen one of these or at least one that looked different than the pro desk pcs.

Sounds like you're doing something wrong. An employee was probably logged into the appliance ordering part and you weren't in the price check application.

Negative. Today at different place talKEE to multiple employees. One let me use the PriceCheck option at the customer service and all it did was take you to their webpage to search for pricing. I checked the URL to make sure wasn't using an internal server but it was not.

You need to click this icon. Sounds like an employee clicked the internet button to the far left.

Also, don't talk to anybody just go use a computer and if they ask if you need help just say no thanks just looking a few things up.

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

Thanks InDaRed2, that is what she clicked and it went right to their web site. I've also done this same thing when nobody was looking before she got there. They won't let the public onto these i've asked about 5 different people at 2 different HDs now. They all say they have no public use kiosks, inventory or price lookup. In fact two different places close to me had the same result. Was it a custom inventory UI when you clicked it or did it take you to some type of web interface? I confirmed it was not an intranet URL of any sort, it was actually going to homedepot.com. I've been in the POS industry for 20 years+ yosh2000 so I'm not even going to reply to you but InDaRed you saved me from writing a nice PM to mr know it all above. But I'll say mr know it all, if you are going to say someone is doing something wrong how about trying to show how to do it right? You are what is wrong w/ message forums.

As an aside I brought my dog and a few of the workers who were playing w/ my pup would have definitely helped me if they could, and went as far to show me the same UI you have up there but sadly my result was not the same. of course I'm not at liberty to check the path of that price check shortcut but maybe next time nobody is around and if they haven't totally locked the interface down I'll make a mental notes of where that shortcut points at my local HDs

I did find a 10" Ryobi table saw up there today for $104 but it didn't have the stand. If anyone is in the NW Chicago suburbs this was at the Elk Grove store. Sorry for the quality, was a bit up there.

Oh nice, I was looking for a crown stapler. Not really that style but no reason it wouldn't work for my needs. I'll have to check my store out.

To answer the other question...

The URL for the PCA will look something like this. It's still web-based and still uses the HD.com base domain but the page layout looks totally different.

h t t p://isp.stXXXX.homedepot.com/com/homedepot/mm/sv/inq/en_US/PriceCheckTool.html

The XXXX is the store number. It doesn't work on a cell or tablet that is simply connected to HD's WiFi, it only works on their hardwired PCs...

Thanks I'll look into this. if I can get access to this thing alone I'll check what subnet it is on and perhaps I can bring a laptop in and hard code my IP to its subnet to access this. I don't see any authentication being done to access this price check site so more than likely getting onto any other network they have their just separates the traffic or puts you on a VLAN.

When I was browsing my phone while in a HD last year, google was giving me the in-store clearance pricing. Later that day, I was unable to get the same pricing on my phone, but I was located elsewhere. Never really tried it again, but I was quite dumbfounded when it happened. Perhaps that may aide in your sleuthing.

Correct, the "original" price check app (that guys from other states are still using) was disabled in IL quite some time ago. I have missed it ever since. Now when you click on it, it just takes you to hd.com, thus rendering it useless. What parts of IL are you from?

Why in the world did they do that? Whatever penny deals they prevent guys from finding, is undoubtably far outweighed by items pennying out in the rafters, because they were never lowered, and never marked down, and NOBODY knows they were ever on clearance to begin with. :dunno:

If you manually type that URL into the web browser (with your store's number obviously), does it work?

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

I do have some more info, screenshots and URL on their search setup which I'll get to a bit later as I have some work to do. I took screen shots of where I was able to get when I went back a bit ago but the UI for the pro desk was completely different than what I saw in the customer service area. I tried to go home and escape all the way back but i could not get to the typical windows UI w/ icons. It was late so I commandeered a pro desk computer and I had a girl watching me but I've found that acting like you own the place sometimes keeps me from being bothered.

I was able to get a military discount on those deep 46" rolling workbenches. Those things are MUCH harder to work with than they look, especially when you're unloading yourself and tipping on end to put the casters on. if I had known I would have done what another person here did and have them assembled and use my lift to do the heavy lifting. So I was able to get these for $223.20 each!! I can't wait to get them over to the other garage to see how they look. What they told me moving forward is to go to the pro desk and see if they'll give me a 10% discount if for some reason my military discount does not work. I may go buy a bunch more if these hold up.

Dave

Two trips later and here we have two new toys!!

To get to the normal splash screen with all the options, look down at the task bar and click on the little monitor icon with a circle around it (look at attached pic). If the taskbar isn't showing you might need to minimize whatever other things could be open, or try CTRL-ESC (launches start menu and brings task bar to front).

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

I used every keyboard shortcut I know to bring up desktop/taskbar, etc. Even tried alt tab hoping I could switch to some other app but no dic. Even if there is no app it should bring up the task switching dialog. I think I know 99% of them being in IT for 20+ years but there appeared to be no other UI. The only one I didn't do was close the app as I wasn't sure where the app was located ALT+F4. I don't know what was under the app but I'll look at the Pics I took and post them up here in a bit to analyze them a bit more. I also want to check that URL a bit better later. I can't see why that is not accessible outside of their LAN to be honest and it very well may just be a CNAME just for their store and inventory(Likely)

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

Ok so this is what I saw. Clearly is win10 based but I was not able to get to a app which showed search icons, etc like I had seen in customer service. Looking in the tray I do see that round icon app you were talking about. Technically alt tab should have gotten me to that tab, perhaps they disabled alt or tab keys, no idea.

Looking at this search it is going to http://stuxsh01.st1904.homedepot.com/FindInStore/#products/air compressor which I cannot get outside of HDs LAN subnet it appears (I'll play w/ this more later). I did try to truncate and change the air compressor query string but no luck there either. Notice the white space in air compressor at the end of the url? Host name does not resolve so next time I go i'll check the network config out of curiosity. Do they actually have a guest wifi at HD?

Looking at some of the yellow highlighted items I assume those are clearance items or non existant? It seems the SKUs that are yellow come back to nothing Looking at that table saw at 100 which shows 0 in stock the SKU comes back w/ nothing but when querying it it brings up the model that likely replaced it. If it shows 0 in stock and is yellow is it safe to assume there is one around at that $100 price or that they actually have none in stock? It does show a location.

...

If by 'tray' you mean the system tray in the bottom right corner, perhaps it was minimized to the tray, in which mode you can't alt+tab to it even on a normal computer. You could try double-clicking or right-clicking on the tray icon.

Sorry I meant taskbar. In one of the pics you'll see it open in the taskbar so alt tab shoul get me there. Even if no app is open in taskbar alt tab should bring up the app switch UI which it did not. I'll do that next time I'm there and nobody is around. They guard these things quite effectively. It's amazing I can NEVER find someone to help me while there until I don't want them around. I'm going to see if I can access what appears to be their intranet site from my laptop one day. I wonder if they just have VPN tunnels between all of their sites or are using azure or some other remote hosted server for this.

EDIT.. SORRY I see pics did not upload for some odd reason , ill add them here.

Looks like it is working just fine to me? You really have me confused now.

Yellow means it's on clearance. The screen where you searched air compressor, click on refine results in the upper left then you can select clearance then go back to results and you will see all yellow clearance items.

Ok then they had it open already as I could not get to the main screen which shows all the random HD icons shown earlier. I guess my question is, if it shows yellow but qty 0 does that mean they have it somewhere just hidden? I looked most places w/o finding the things on clearance at 0 qty.

Thanks much,

Dave

If they show 0 then most likely they don't have any. BUT inventory isn't always 100% correct. If it shows 0 i don't bother looking.

Quantity *should* be what's in the store, regardless of price. Unless it's something large or high-dollar, I don't bother looking if the qty is zero. Even if it's 1, their count could still be off. On the flip side though I've also found things when the count was at like -5 (yes, negative 5)... lol.

Yes, the stores have free Wifi, usually when you connect you get a splash screen and click a logon button to agree to their terms or whatever.

I've never bothered to look at the desktop machines network configuration. I've never had any problems finding / using a free machine. But it is a trival matter to have them on a separate vlan as the free wifi and I would hope they would have some minimal type of network security as well.

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

Some stores are getting rid of their Echo chainsaws. I was able to grab a 20" 490 for $279, I already have an Echo 18", but this was too good of a deal to pass up :) I asked someone in lawn and garden if I could get a discount, because there wasn't a chain with it on the clearance rack, and he told me they had the chain, oil, manuals, etc up on the shelf. While he is pulling that down, I notice an Echo chain box and inquire. He tells me that they have a bunch of Echo chains on clearance and haven't even taken then down yet. I told him I'd like to buy one, he cuts open a box and hands me the wrong 20" chain. After he walks away, I climbed up the ladder to take a look, found my correct 20" chain, and also the correct chain for my 18" Echo. I also found scabbards up there on clearance. Chains were $24 and scabbards were $5. When I got to my store where I can access the PCA, I was able to find a couple stores near me with the chains marked down to $16, also found some replacement bars for my 18" for $20. That stuff will probably sit up in the rafters at the store I purchased the chainsaw, until it zero's out.

Re: 2018 Home Depot Clearance Thead

Thanks much guys! Still getting a feel for this. If they were more willing to let me use their machines I would not have any reason to find a way to use my own equipment. Their PCS at the pro desk are set up just for employees to use and the CS desk has them turned towards them so I'd have to go behind a desk to get to them and I am not going to do that. I may try that kitchen kiosk again now that I know what I'm looking for but the UI was completely different so I don't think that's going to help me.

Can’t find these anywhere. All of my stores are out.

I'm surprised any of those are still around, they were brought in for Black Friday (I believe) not last year but the year before at $50. Same as the Gearwrench set Sears sells for $45-50 most of the year, Chinese made, not the old Taiwan made like you can sometimes find at Sears. Good combination wrenches, well worth $50 IMO...killer at less than $25!

If you plan on filling out the set it will end up costing more to fill the set than the $50, just FYI.
