Good list and FYI, you need to take the "S" out of "HTTPS" for Imgur to work here

Welcome to GJ and the thread!

Thanks for that. I went back to change the URL but now it's saying that I can't post links or photos until my post count reaches 5. Guess this brings me up to 2. Gonna have to comment on some stuff.

Swung by the Restore today, looking for cheap light bulbs. Didn't find any of those, but did find this:

Stanley sweetheart breast drill, in box. Got that and a Proto keystone screwdriver for $11.85.

It is worth at least double that, probably more.

Double of free is double free? I just took a chance on it because I know these stands are somewhat rare. It’s in amazing shape and came with every single piece as well as the manual. The motor hums but doesn’t spin so some work will have to be done before I do anything with it. It’s easy to put some time in something you didn’t spend any money on!

motor - could be easy as a bad capacitor. Take the belt off, give it a spin by hand and turn on while still spinning. If it takes off and runs, it's probably an easy fix- start switch, capacitor.
It could even be set for 220V - seen it done without changing the plug. rewired a 110V receptacle for 220/v:shocking:

I'm getting caught up here. This post is about a small tool box I found weekend before last. At first, I wasn't much interested, but looking inside, I saw a couple of items that looked interesting. I asked it they would bundle it with a knife sharpening kit, and they did.

One of the more interesting items, not of much monetary value, but which fills a desire for me, is a replaceable tip for my pick set that I've had for over 40 years. I loaned out the o-ring pick to a co-worker who broke off the tip, and I have have been using it with a shortened, reground tip ever since.

There are a couple of scales, a Brown and Sharpe 12" and a H.F. Ritter stainless steel 6", along with a 6" General depth gauge/scale.

Another reason I bought the box was the P&C #131 ignition wrench (13/64x15/64). The small inspection mirror is also useful.

I have no idea who made the box, or what the brand was, since there are not markings. The only hint is a sticker that warns to close the drawers before closing the lid.

I only paid $10.00 for the whole works, so I feel good about it.

Last Friday I attended a rummage sale at a local church and found this old Craftsman ratchet. It is a first-generation "Box Head" sold between 1949 and 1952, the first of the Moore Drop Forge Craftsman ratchets. Photos 1 & 2.

I had noticed a photo advertising an estate sale that was interesting. See Photo 3. I was lucky enough to grab the Bonney Loc-Rite wrenches (Photos 4-6) and two Channellock Nutbuster pliers (a 10-inch and a 14-inch) (Photo 7) for $50.00.

The Bonney wrenches are in excellent shape, with no damage, rust, or owners' marks. The set runs from 3/8 to 1-1/4, but is missing the 1/2, 3/4, and 7/8 sizes. The Nutbusters are like new.

Found these two boxes listed on local Craigslist for $40. Top box is Mac, bottom is Matco badged as Mac. Seller said there were "some tools" in the drawers but he could not get them open. Got home and found many grease caked goodies inside including two set of Mac combo wrenches SAE and Metric. Still digging through the drawers.

Saturday I hit an early sale in town, and found the spin indexer (with a 3/4" collet) and some non-skid walk for $15.00. Photo 1.

Later, I travelled to a nearby town that was having a town-wide garage sale that was in it's second day. After a couple of duds, I found the items in Photo 2, a pair of Vise Grip welding hose crimpers, a Craftsman "Flying V" 15" ratchet, and the Plomb #5402 torque wrench all for $8.00.

After a couple of more duds, I stumbled upon an unadvertised sale where I found the items in Photo #3:
Mixture of square and 8-point sockets
Vlchek WBH 4044 DBE 1-1/4x1-3/8
SK non-chrome 33026 DBE 13/16x7/8
Truth 8-pt. DBE Ford Brake wrench 7/16x1/2
Plomb 1232 1" combo
Plomb Pebble 1232 1" combo
Plomb Pebble 1226 13/16" combo
Plomb 1220 5/8" combo
Plomb WF-81 DBE 1/2x9/16
P&C 2718 9/16 combo
P&C 2720 5/8 combo, Series 100
Crescent 264 nippers
Wizard H2833 1/2 drive ratchet
Dual-marked Plomb/Proto 13/16 deep socket
Plomb 5470 1/2 swivel
Plomb 5424 3/4 socket
New Britain cape chisel

All this came out of two old picnic coolers and cost me $25.00. Best of all, I got invited back to dig through the rest of the cluttered shop that had been in operation since before WWII!

Great score, Whiskey! I found the triple stack version last year, but paid way more than $40. Mine was full of stuff also (no nice Mac wrenches) but it's like Christmas digging through a box like that.

Picked up a couple of rusty 7/8" by 11" corner chisels and another perfect handle screwdriver this afternoon.

My daughter saw and was interested in them, so suited her up and I taught her how to wire wheel them back into useful shape.

One of the corner chisel is marked Ohio Tools, while other one looks like it says C.H. Thompson but that is complete guess.

On the perfect handle, it turned out to be a surprise as said Irwin US of A Gov Stock #41-S-1076.

Here is some pics of them after clean up.

Mike

I knew Plomb had a fairly diverse market beyond automotive tools (plumbing, oil, railroad, utilities, mining, etc), even venturing into gardening tools (see Beemer's gourd weeder!), but I had no idea they were into the early Reefer Madness paraphernalia niche.

Nice surprise, Mike. Issued to the Willys-Overland MC (followed MB, Army designated M-38) jeep on-board toolkit in 1951. You will still see them attributed to WWII on eBay and elsewhere, but I can assure you they were KW production. PM me if you're interested in seeing the details of my research.

Looks like OHIO TOOL Mike.

3bay:

I think your right on both being Ohio Tool.

Even though both are roughly the same size, the wood handle on one is bigger and the turning on the bigger handle are in slightly different locations than other one. It also puzzled me that they marked the name of company in different location than on the other one.

Probably was a Monday thing!!!

Thanks for sorting me out on this

Mike

Was hoping you would come along and sort me out on the history behind the perfect handle Irwin US of A Gov Stock #41-S-1076.

Definitely would be interested in seeing the details of your research on it as well.

Hit up a different pawn shop. There were a few bolted down junk bins of well picked over tools. First thing I spotted was a Vanadium Tool Co. offset screwdriver.
I wedged my big head under the shelf where very few probably dare to go. The digging paid off as I turned up the Snap On. A deal for 5 bucks.

-Snap On 3/8 combo
-Snap On short offset 3/8 combo
-pair of Snap On sockets, one is an 8 pointer
-Vanadium Tool Co. screwdriver
-Barcalo offset 5/8 x 11/16 box wrench in pretty good shape
-Armstrong Whitworth open end wrench

Also, a Goodwill find. “Small Fry” square skillet. Research is saying this is a BSR. Couldn’t pass it up for less than 5 bucks after discount.

This morning's sale was an old guy with a ton of Chevy parts to sell. I managed to find this lot amongst all the engine blocks, heads, manifolds and tons of trim parts. Nice Snap-on U-Joint press in a cool home-made storage box with a sliding top. Mac vac/press gage, Blue Point nut drivers, Cornwell 3/8dr ratchet, a few sockets. Two Snap-on compressor tools (ACT260 & ACT-1A) according to the old guy..... and a home-made 1/4dr Snap-on flex socket with a 5/8 12pt socket welded to it... not a bad job either!

The box is nothing to get excited about but at 13 bucks I couldn't pass it by. 43 bucks for this and some import **** that was duct taped in bundles to the good stuff.

I don't want to hijack the thread but I've seen numerous posts referring to the craftsman "V" tools. I have a couple that are marked with it. What does the V indicate?

Thanks

JoCo that was me this morning that gave you a "you ****" for your bucketful of Cman =V=. Thanks for leaving me some (barely). :lol_hitti

I picked up the Crowntop machinist's chest and some other things. I'll post pics later tonight.

The =V= series is said by some to be of higher quality than other USA Craftsman. Maybe, I don't know. I've never had any problems and almost all of mine are users. I'm drawn to that series mainly for nostalgia - it's what I grew up using with my father and brother.

Been kinda dry around here.
But did find this neat NAPA parts cabinet on FB marketplace.

Messaged in the first 10 minuets I’d posting, was the first to do so.
Seller delivered to me at work.

Needs a little tweaking, but it’ll get used as is after that’s done.

$120 delivered.

First time bumping into a fellow GJ'er in the wild and I didn't even know it.

JoCo that was me this morning that gave you a "you ****" for your bucketful of Cman =V=. Thanks for leaving me some (barely). :lol_hitti

I picked up the Crowntop machinist's chest and some other things. I'll post pics later tonight.

Ha!! Fancy that! Nice to have met you and now I know who I've got to beat through the door! Glad you picked up the machinist chest. I was tempted but I'm at the point I have to start picking and choosing tool box space. I actually regret buying the one I did today but got caught up in the moment. I look forward to seeing your pics of what I missed!

Nice! I'd love to find one like that or similar at a good price but apparently all the ones in my AO are gold plated.
