Can Pawn Shop finds be posted here? Here are two full boxes for $40 at a pawn shop recently. 2 snap on ratchets, one SK ratchet and lots of USA Craftsman stuff. Plus over 40 pounds of Chinese and Taiwanese tools.

Here's a little "package" I bought off SMC. 9" drawknife made by The James Swan Co, Stanley No 151 & No 51 spokeshaves, made in USA saw set (only mark I can find on it beyond made in usa is "5"; both those marks are on the inside of the handles), a small set of calipers and 2 little clamps with cork lined jaws (not sure what these would be used for; anyone know?). Paid $15 total and I'm extremely happy. If anyone has a thought on who made the saw set I'd appreciate knowing.

I like these Craftsman 3-drawer 20.5" boxes but they don't seem to come up for sale very often around here, so I made the sale where this one was first on my list though it didn't open until 10. I arrived 45 minutes early and there were 10 ahead of me! Dashing for the garage I found the box unclaimed. Price tag $30 - nope, not gonna wait til half price day! I ended up getting it for $28 because they couldn't crack a Benjamin and that was all the small bills I had. Several nice tools included - the tin snips are Wiss and in great shape. Bigger than any I had. Two Snap-On wrenches, several Craftsman and the big adjustable is Crescent. A bunch of SawzAll blades, all new or good usable, half a dozen chisels and a punch-ditto. And, of course the obligatory junk and trash.
On to the next, I snagged the HF battery charger for $16, about half (including tax) what I paid for the one that runs my e-tank. Nothing else of interest, too far to go back tomorrow to maybe save $8.
The third sale had a large format printer - 44" wide - but it was priced way out of my range. Not a wasted trip, though, as I picked up a handful of USA wrenches including a Plomb Pebble! And this oddball clamp- not usable as it sits, and I'm not at all sure I could straighten it without breaking it. But, it'll make an interesting wall hanger. Anybody know what it's for?

Haven't seen too many decent tool sales lately, so have reverted to eBay and the antique stores. The batch of screwdrivers, awls, soldering irons, clamps, files and tack hammers was from an eBay auction for $1.78 plus $20 shipping. The Stanley drill points and hand drill and Craftsman aluminum folding ruler were $18 at an antique store, and the batch of spiral ratcheting screwdrivers were also from eBay.cd5f5c35c6180077e53f8b675287f591.jpg3af90d66a52aa25ecd6c9a425b469359.jpg007fa6b30c9623523f84de234624328c.jpgebc6f10033f21991c83781cd227176e1.jpg1b93ec34450caa485b826ce1e1697312.jpg

A productive if somewhat disjointed day

I went abck to the place I got the Long C vise from last week, but noting new was out that I wanted.

Then off to the HS Flea, which only had about half the normal count of sellers, did OK, than a couple of TOOs and a late one then a Freecycle PU!

from the Flea:
started with the Knives, a big Schrade LB7 and a small Buck 505 with award info lasered in-a tenner, A Hyde screw adjusted holder for something - shown apart for clarity - not sure what it held , the jaws are formed sheet metal; and an Ansonia clock movement with chime hammer. seems semi operational and is Circa 1877-1929 those were a buck each

attachment.php

An old wood frame, I've only seen 2 this style, and I now own both. this one is missing a tip of one extension. two "lipstick" brushes (twist to extend) handy for dusting optics. a Stylus scale (for a turntable tone arm), all this was a buck and half, the two clips were cents fifty elsewhere.

attachment.php

A couple of DVD movies for a buck:

attachment.php

All this was ten bucks: A mini Asian vise, Leatherman PST II - I like that it has a two sided file, diamond grit on one side, and a "fine" ******* cut on the other- Needs cleaned up and penetrating oil in the pins areas... - A working GPS , A Black and Decker lock, a tapered pin, and a sealed box of CDs for music. and a 12V heater stick for car windows

The Freecycle load: all musical!

Two hand made wood flutes, these are real flutes as you have to blow across the mouth ole - these are not glorified whistles. the protective cases came with

As well as a cool fold out story of the maker -hand drawn and written (there is a "comic" inside as well):

attachment.php

A Koa wood "drum" (makes a heck of a crack when rapped with the stick (I mistakenly put the stick in another pic...), and a bamboo "violin" you wet the bamboo "bow" and it will make sounds!

A slit drum - rosewood top and redwood body The stick goes in the pic above.

And here is Sophie checking out the Djembe, and the Bongos. Both a re very nice examples!

X2. Looks like some nice socket compartments in that drawer.

Outlaw, or should I call you Bandit, you made out there. Can’t believe the instruments were free.

I grabbed a Giant Vac leaf blower with an 8HP B/S engine from the curb for free. We were headed to an Estate Sale and saw it at the curb. Tossed it in the hatch, brought it home and headed back out to the Estate Sale.

Gas tank was empty and the engine has compression. The pull cord needs to be cleaned and rewound - it sticks a little on rewind. The tires even had air! When I pull the starter cord I get "zapped" by the pull cord so I suspect something is amiss with the magneto/spark plug wire.

I didn't find anything of interest at the Estate Sales today.

Cheers

Jim

Thanks! Yeah, I was pretty happy with that!

Bongo Party at Outlaw's!

It could happen! 2-1/2 sets of Bongo's now, 3 Djembes. a Dundun (big one), other "fringe" drums and percussion instruments, (but not a single "conventional" drum or set...). I'd love to find a Conga... Boom!

So rather than a Bongo party, a Drum circle! (Which is what got me into the fringe types in the first place!)

I hit two estate sales and two garage sales today, picking up the following:

This was from the first ES. Two vintage Ball type jars, a Thorsen flex-head which has seen better days (but for a buck...) Vlcheck dbe, and an incomplete Indestro set:

missing the doe's, but other than that complete. But when I got home, I realized that it was the wrong style of ratchet. But! I bought the right one at another sale yesterday. So now I just need to find the wrenches... Not unhappy, as I bought it for the ratchet alone. And I almost forgot:

Someone here might recognize the author. $10 for all of that.

The next stop was another ES where I picked up two bags of sockets, rusty:

after getting rid of the junk, I had two Powr-Kraft ratchets, two Proto sockets (big ones in front) and a bunch of Craftsman, mostly -V-. A soak in evaporust will do wonders for these. $9

Then two garage sales, both of which were busts. After that I headed for a used tool shop, picking up the following:

Proto LA breaker bar and 10" extension. Need to replace the retaining ball on the extension. $6. A nice fun day.

We found three sales to attend this morning. The first was in San Lorenzo, CA and the seller was a frequent buyer at other sales. I found a NOS Craftsman crown torque wrench and several sockets along with a rusty Williams pin spanner.
The second sale was just down the road in Hayward and we found some Craftsman stuff along with some wrenches. The last stop was the second day of an estate sale and I bought a trashed Gem Oiler for the perfect spout and some early round nose Utica pliers. The last picture is today’s haul.

A Hyde screw adjusted holder for something - shown apart for clarity - not sure what it held ,

attachment.php

You can get new blades for those, but some require flaring out the center holder (left most) to allow them to fit.

Here is a link to the same handle, you should be able to link out to the three blade shapes they currently sell.

https://hydestore.com/hyde-tools-57630-wood-extension-blade-handle-2sr.html

Also at Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001VEA8WY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The old ones hold an edge fantastically.

Here is my haul from Monday, my fourth pic of the same estate sale, got there at 358 for a planned closing at 400. Made a pile, got a quick price, and ran out.

IMG_20200201_114254-X3.jpg

Lots of screws again, brass, nickel plated brass, and a few oddities like tension or roll pins. A few more locksmith items, and those old hex drive sockets. Found a 1/2” set, a 3/8” handle, but no sockets, and a bunch of 1/4” drive, but no handle. Got some 1/4” as part of a box the day before.

Some wrenches, some drills, bitstock, deep sockets, and a nutsert tool. 10” Ridgid and 14” Trimo pipewrench.

Here is a pic of the two different markings on the 1/2” stuff.

ooh what kind of lock stuff?

Here is a pic of most of the locksmith stuff I picked up. Grabbed the box of pins for the box, not the pins. Can they be used for other things, like low speed roller bearings?

The pin wrenches came a day too late, as I needed them to remove a lock set to plane a door down to allow it to close.

The lock picks were a fun find, as I keep trying to learn how to open locked toolboxes. Wondering about the rhomboid holding the one pick in the plastic box.

Oooh, nice lapel pin Lugz! And if it is for me, thanks!
Sure thing. That and the buttons and heirloom toy soldiers and stone were all in a massive number of 'smalls' laid out on three tables. Hundreds and hundreds of buttons, coins, miniature toy cars, thimbles, can openers, and other knick knacks, but oddly, NOS ball bearing boxes, NOS safety blades, cotter pins, and the like. It's fun going through those kinds of messes sometimes looking for hidden gems. Almost like a game.

Facebook Marketplace gets me again, I've told myself several times not to buy any more carry boxes with jumbles of tools, but can't seem to resist.

Of course box was nasty and picture in ad was terrible but thought I could see a couple of vintage wrenches.

The "cost" of these boxes isn't so much the $20 it cost but the time it takes to sort and clean everything. Plus I end up going down a Google search rabbit hole looking for info on any unknown pieces.

Here's what was left after removing the trash and household maintenance items. I've identified most of the wrenches but there are a few mysteries maybe you eagle eyes can figure out.

Small haul (Lugz 2020_08) this morning from the flea.

The UL safety can is an Agate Sheet Metal Products Chicago. I think I might restore it.

Unknown gears. I am hoping the numbers on each one will held identify what machine they're from. Not pot metal.

Here is my haul from Monday, my fourth pic of the same estate sale, got there at 358 for a planned closing at 400. Made a pile, got a quick price, and ran out.

The hex sockets you picked up with one band of knurling look to be from an Indestro set. I have a complete "Handy" set from the 1930s that matches. These were typically cadmium plated and made into the 1950s.20191102_151945.jpgtapatalk_1578546639633.jpeg20191102_151626.jpg

The S-wrench is a Southington. Lugz schooled me in this brand over on the DOE thread; my post888 there has some links. A 500 should be 3/8 x 1/2 openings, I think.
The linesman pliers are Boker, not Booker. Several family-related companies in USA and Germany.
The slipjoints may be stamped too faintly to read under the surface rust/grime. Or not stamped at all. I’d gently scrape or wire brush them to see if they are CeeTee or something else. If you really want to investigate them, there may be forge marks. They are pretty standard-looking to me. A real expert might recognize the manufacturer by the specific pattern. Are the handles smooth or pressed with a grip pattern?
Post a closer pic of the yellow handle mystery pliers. They look like (telephone) wire strippers at this distance.
The JSB dikes look like an old pattern. There is a pair of JSB water pump pliers on eBay right now, but the seller does not ID the brand. They don’t look as old to me, so presumably JSB was in business long enough to be researchable. Also a pair of no400 linesman pliers, some DOEs, a couple planes, and a pipe vise, all marked Japan. Maybe someone else will recognize them. I don’t.

Some great hauls so far this weekend, gents!

I finished up applying drywall mud yesterday, so as a reward, I ran out to a nearby sale. It was at the end of the second day, and anyone with experience entering small stuffed workshops after opening day will recognize the following mess that greeted me:7b45718612951d4ea3969f40ad908f28.jpg

A total pig pile! With an hour to go, I pawed through the lasagna-like layers and brought home some meatballs for $5:

RAC automotive vac/pressure gauge--works
Cary basal thermometer w/Celsius scale--broken
Dzus tool
3H Universal Safety-gun
2x SX102 stubby Xcelite Phillips screwdrivers
Craig 9303 footswitch for audio recording equipment
Approx 2lbs if solder
Soldering flux
2lbs of stainless steel safety wire
3-from-1 outlet adapter
Black & Decker U-1670 spade bit set

Not a lot of info on the Internet on this tool, but seems to be for rivets...can anyone shed some light?

I would have passed this by if not for Lugz' post from last month. No markings on this Snoopy-headed Dzus tool.

BB if I'd have been there, and assuming Craftsman/Dunlap, (95% sure) I'd have been all over that T saw if only for the fence even though its a tint tilting table... (I've been looking for that fence for ages)

What was the other power tool in the back ground? Jointer?

On the safety gun, what does the tip look like? it may be for ty-wraps?

You did well!

Outlaw: I did consider taking the fence and blade guard off, as I have the same model lacking both under my workbench at home.

That is a small jointer in the middle of the floor and a Dunlap bandsaw on the back bench. Here's a better pick of the bandsaw.

I'll grab a pic of the safety gun tip in a sec.f97a8a40a1a33985acdc3caabf39daa7.jpg
