Thanks for the compliments on the Heritage box, guys. It’s definitely not new. The second picture is of it next to some of yesterday and today’s tools cleaned up.

This morning I had some business appointments, and I wasn't able to get to the one estate sale in my home town until after 2 PM. There were still some tools left, and it will take two posts to show them. $30.00 for everything!

Photo #1 is a Barcalo deep offset DBE set from 3/8 to 1". This pattern is a new one for me, with raised panels both sides and "FORGED VANADIUM" and "BARCALO BUFFALO" markings. I'm surprised that at least one of the set hadn't been sold before I got there.

Photo #2 is the P&C stuff. A #604 stubby screwdriver, 8" adjustable, #2816 DOE 1-2 x 9-16 (with dashes instead of slashes for the fractional size markings indicating early production). Also a #2118 DBE shorty 1/2 x 9/16.

Photo #3 are two Proto LA #3426 DOE tappet wrenches, 1/2 x 9/16.

Photo #4 is the Plomb, all USA.
1210 5/16 combo
4769 1/4 drive spinner
4710 5/16 socket
3/8d sockets: 5214 (7/16),5218 (9/16), 5220 (5/8), 5222 (11/16) regular, and 5018 (9/16), and 5020 (5/8) deep.

Photo #5: SK 1/4" drive set with a mixture of sockets. 1/4" hex drive set included. SK 40118 9/16 1/2d regular and Craftsman 3/8d 13mm deep 6 pt. sockets. I was very pleased to see the knurled tommy bar in the box!

Photo #6: MAC KB17 KIT BAG for sets number SCL102K and SCL106K in like new condition!

One of the odd Craftsman tools I found at the estate sale yesterday was this tool. I hadn’t seen one before. Anybody familiar with it?
-Don

That would be a later version, late 80's to 90's. I have the exact one and was purchased in that time period

As others have said, push drill.

My Dad bought that one about 1980 +/- a few years. When he died last summer my brother went straight for the push drill. He built some project with Dad as a kid and wanted the drill as a keep sake.

Great find.

Continuing the report on today’s Estate sale.
The sellers had set out all the sockets in one group. I looked through them and sorted out the ones I wanted. I found a pretty complete set of older New Britain sockets, plus some other items. After some more shopping, I was ready to leave when I noticed the black socket box up on a shelf and added it to the pile. The sockets were:

All 1/2 drive, NT prefix:
1240 1-1/4
1236 1-1/8
1234 1-1/16
1232 1”
1230 15/16
1226 13/16
1225 25/32
1224 3/4
1222 11/16
1220 5/8
1214 7/16

1/2 drive Husky CT614 7/16
3/8 drive sockets: NBD612 3/8 deep 6 pt., NB810
NS57 Flex Handle 1/2d
N56C Universal 1/2d
M-200 Valve Adjusting Tool (Identical to the ZIM I have)
The box measures 19-1/16 long, 7-1/8 wide, and 1-5/8 deep.

The mixed items are shown in Photo #4:
Indestro Super 4664 #4 Phillips
"Lubroclamp" grease tool. Patent # 2.003.708-9 Forging mark is a "B" in sort of a house (pentagram)
Crescent (Jamestown, NY) Hinged Screwdriver
Herbrand 6925 short DBE 1/2 x 9/16 "VAN-CHROME"
Small Screwdriver (did this come with a sewing machine?)
Air chuck for dual tires (for my truck kit)
Lube Extension (I'll be using this on my heavy equipment)
Aluminum flat bar remnant.

Photo #5 is the other side of the Lubroclamp.

So, now that I have time, here are my finds.
the two mentioned green boxes:

SK Wayne 1/4 set, and an SK 1/4 deep socket holder with Allen and Thosen sockets.

The bottom boxes; A mix of random vintage and a Challenger box, containing:

A complete flex set (the set goes from 3/8 to 3/4 which is normal, but the set is labeled different. ??? And the last two:

A vintage Thorsen set (always bugs me when I see someone tried to use electical tape as an insulator) and an unused set of Craftsman (USA) metric flex. I also picked up a couple smalls:

Two empty tubes, a WWII Xcelite, Williams 5/16 combo and Stanley sweetheart brace driver. All of that set me back $41. Damnedest thing. I went to a sale that mentioned (no pics) tools, along with a lot of decorating stuff. It was on my way, but I didn't have much hope for it. Well, when I get there I notice a stack of green boxes on a table to the side. I figured they would be the seventies socket sets that we see everywhere, and are basically pot-metal. Well, they were '80s SK! About a half dozen of them, with some Thorsen mixed in. Not my thing, but I grabbed the oldest, along with the flex sets, and the misc box. Not the neighborhood I thought would have them, nor the type of person. An older lady, seemed to have them priced OK. Someone is going to get a great deal on a bunch of good tools, and I don't mind. The big Thorsen set was at the Restore, siting on a shelf with the power tools. So I grabbed that before I went off book hunting, where I found these:

Alltogether a very nice day!

Here we go on the uncommon lubers theme... That old Garage Sale thread synchronicity at work.

Holy hen's teeth! They only made these for a few years, in three sizes, and I've never seen one in the wild.

Thanks Lugz, I saw the knurled steel handle on the screwdriver and thought it might be a T-handle. When I saw the hinge pin I knew what it was. I wasn't sure who made it until I got it home and rotated the handle exposing the identification.

Check out my New Britain set. Look familiar? Looks like somebody finally figured out how to remove the speeder from the lid. I’m not willing to use that method.

I thought they pivoted out? One box I had awhile back had two "hooks" pointed one way and the third at the end was pointed the other way. I just had to pull the knob down and it pivoted out.

Usually I find the boxes over packed and it bends the "hooks"flat from them slamming it shut.

Don and I (and a few others) were discussing the various speeder mounting provisions and frustrations in late Long C and early Heritage era Craftsman boxes on the Long C thread a few weeks back, sparked by my observation that they aren't always interchangeable between "brands". For example, I have a boxless Plomb-made Circle-U set with a speeder that will not under any circumstances (bending, etc) fit in a box I have with a New Britain-made Circle-H set, despite the fact they were made and sold at the same time. The speeders have different profiles and the lid-mounting provision (particularly the middle clip) is completely different. That led to a discussion about how all the lid-mounting provisions are a royal pain in the ***, and Don joked that his seemed to be permanently mounted. I'm sure he knows he could get it out of there with enough yucksing and prying etc, which he is intentionally avoiding.

Bmwrd0,
You said those two sets are 1980s?
Then queue up the Men Without Hats partay music:
“S-s-s-s, K-k-k-k, Sock-sock-sock-et Sets-sets-sets-sets!...
You can flex sock-ets if you want to.
You can flex them; they’ll be fine.
And if they don’t flex, say ‘what the heck,
They’re no sets of mine!’”

Nice. :)

yesterday’s Restore finds:

I didn’t belt out any remixed 80’s tunes when I pulled this Williams cross bar from the bottom of a box of old screwdrivers, but there was some audible exclamation like “Would you look at that”. Mainly because I recently picked up the ratchet it goes to at the engine show. Finding the missing bar for 99 cents, I was happy. It needs a touch up from being used as a makeshift punch.

-NY Telephone screwdriver by Bridgeport
-Williams cross bar for 1/2” st-50 rat
-Twin PowrKraft and Dayton socket drivers of the Thorsen era
-Wright 3/8 ratchet
-Bonney screwdriver

Well, since I'm not posting woodworking tools today maybe I'll get at least one comment. :D Yesterday evening I was checking out possible estate sales to hit today. One that was nearby had a pic of a green metal box near a lantern. With some edumacation from Outlaw I decided to go check it out this morning. It was the green Coleman guillotine lantern box and contained a 220E lantern which Outlaw said was in pretty good demand. No idea on the dates of these things.

There were quite a few old tools there so I grabbed a few. Excited to see the Wizard & Blackhawk decals inside the red boxes. If anyone has any info on what wrenches would have been in the Lectrolite Chromaloy pouch please educate me.

From the top, the loose tools are: Plomb 5463 10" ext 1/2"dr, Herbrand No S-27 4" ext 1/2" dr, Snap-On breaker bar F-10-HG, Plomb WF-21 ratchet and I can tell the size ???, Husky CG 41G 3/8" dr and an old doorknob. Didn't even really go thru the wrenches which were piled up in a box for $1 ea. Did see some P-C, Proto, etc. Maybe I should go back and see if there are any Lectrolite Chromaloy wrenches there. :headscrat

I also saw a brand I've never seen before McKaig-Hatch. I actually thought I put the adj wrench in my bag but apparently I didn't. Are these worth going back for? I'm not gonna collect 'em just thinking as trade-bait. Spent $28 for everything.

Outlaw, thanks for the schoolin'!!

That's a nice haul, Tex. If you can't use that Blackhawk box, it will flip for at least what you spent on everything for sure. I think I have the Wizard set in that same box without much decal left. Gotta go check. And there are enough Lectrolite wrenches floating around loose to fill hundreds of those pouches, whether period correct or not. Fans, too. McKaig-Hatch was a very old toolmaker petered out soon after WWII.

TX Usuck on that buy! those guillotine boxes go for a premium on Eprey as I mentioned.

the later 220s are easily the most common lanterns out there. Personally I only buy them if they are: Cheap, early modles (no letter, B's C's D's, ot mil spec), Pristine, or have Amber or "picket fence" Globes (etched white bares...), or an accessory lie the mantle vault or reflector.

228's (same lantern, with a "big Hat" - wide brim vent...) I'm a little softer on but still have walked (but not today...)

Today the HS flea got rained out...:( only 2 Yardsales, and the first was a bust.

#2 I managed to scrape up a couple of things but no tools..

3 Cast Iron Skillets: One was a Griswold! the other 2 similar era decent stuff - the pipe cleaners were thrown in for free:

attachment.php

the big one:

attachment.php

The Griswold - Someone MAY have hit this with a welder? :dunno: further cleaning may shown...

attachment.php

Unknown (for now) 8 " -nice quality though! every bit as nice as a Griswold!

attachment.php

A lantern stand (I hope, still have not unsealed the box - for $2 I risked it...)

attachment.php

And the 228. It's FILTHY, BUT the vent appears to be pristine, The Globe is original, its FULL, and all the controls and the pump seem operational. I'm betting the cap gasket will need replaced... For $5 It wasn't staying behind..

For Jock and anyone else who may be interested in a corny, kitschy, chintzy but complete and intact 'Made in Japan' imported tool kit from 1968..., here are some teaser shots, and I posted a lot more and a full write-up on a new thread down on the Vintage Board linked here. :pimpflash

There was only one g-sale candidate w/tools but it was a total bust. All he had was old Chinese ****.

I made the wrong turn leaving his neighborhood and as I did we saw a lady putting out a fresh g-sale sign. (serendipity??) It was actually a private unadvertised estate sale and she wanted stuff gone. (make a pile, make an offer)

I made a pile for $30.

The drill bit index is really a nice one and hard to find in the wild. The hacksaw is from Sheffield, England but seems kind of flimsy. Old SK 1/4" set but the sockets are not complete. I'm not sure if the alum handled tool is an ice pick, center punch *****, scribe or ?.

Th belt sander is like new. The vise is a Reed 404 with swivel base and swivel jaws. Unfortunately when I got it home and turned it over the base has been brazed. (not sure what happened to it)

So that 228 lantern surprised me! the vent was definitely pristine! this is after cleaning with a very mild spray cleaner, and all of three paper towel halves:

I DID need to replace the fill cap Gasket, and that came out with just the point of a pocket knife. (usually those have to be burned out...) the underside of the vent indicated it had only been lit once? almost zero soot!

The date on the bottom was 6-67 so the fuel is likely 52 years old?

I made sure it made pressure and wasn't leaking after the cap gasket replacement, and that it had fuel coming up top and lit it without mantles. Lit right up, warmed up and twin flames that were even mantle shaped!

So I'm pleased, its a Model I didn't have before (228F) original globe, just the fount has some "shelf wear" minimal "rim Rash" on the bottom even.

and the wrinkled paint - this has to be just bad paint adhesion from the factory, other than where its scraped...

Nice haul Dave. That Reed looks nice, despite being brazed. When brazing is done right it’s real strong, so it could be fine.
Bolt isn’t original, did they hammer it in there or is it ground conical?

Nice finds, guys

Here is a piece from a haul 2 days ago. I cleaned it up so it would look better in the photos.
I’ve never seen one of these bolt extractors anywhere close to this big. 5 inches long. The square at the top is a full inch across the flats. It weighs one and a half pounds. Instructions say to start by drilling a hole 1-1/16 diameter. !!!

Says made in U.S.A. Is that logo Vermont American or ???

Welcome to the club! (July 2019 find...Cleveland Twist Drill Ezy-Out No. 11)

EDIT: Mine came in a tin - but I leave it out as an ornamental postmodern art paperweight. :)

That lantern did clean up nicely outlaw!

Dave I dig that SK set!! I got one in my collection that's pretty complete. I need to sort them out for pics and get rid of duplicates.

Well folks, I got the tool box home! The chest was bolted to the roller but both keys came with the boxes! I haven't opened it up yet as I've been busy. The bar lock is bolted on the roller. If the key locks the drawers then I'm just going to remove the lock.

I need to do some cleaning and organizing soon!!

It looks like the socket has been lightly taped to accommodate the bolt. The threads don't look very deep.

It might be better then the original pin which can get stuck in that socket and tough to remove after a little rust forms.
