Well that was fruitless. I dug out the HK box and decided to sort it and see how many were missing. I started with this:

attachment.php

And came up with zero, nada, zilch for anything with an H or a K on it :headscrat

Most were craftsman (Two were metric) , and a couple of Unbrako's: There was a Partial set of unmarked:

attachment.php

So I dug out one of my cans of "loose" allens, and pawed trough them to get any marked. - I guess they were in there for a reason: only a few had markings, mostly Unbrako... So I bagged those and the Craftsman and put everything else back in the can.

I think a lot of the black finish unmarked allens are from bearing sets where they come with the bearing to tighten a setscrew as many were the same size, and common sizes to boot.

This was once fairly standard, at least for the smaller sizes, and the idea was to tighten until the allen wrench bent a bit, and that was your "torque wrench". I know I picked up a lot of the same size allens of the floors of some shops...

Anyway, thanks again Don; At least I know what I'm looking for now...

Hit a few more sales yesterday, and went back to one from Thursday. Nothing much from the first two sales (one was mis advertised) but the third was a hoarders place. Lots of glass and vintage nick-nacks, but most of is wasn't to my tast. But there was some good digging in the basement, where it looked like the guy did furniture restoration. Lots of little drawers and cabinets to dig through. If I had more room for storage a lot of it would have come home with me, as they were playing lets make a deal...

A vintage lockset, misc. sockets (WWII SK, BE Craftsman, Indestro, Walden) Dunlop ignition wrench, most of a Bonney socket set, Goodell Pratt driver, Stanley ofset driver, two chisels (one Pexto) Craftsman scrollsaw blades, and a desk lock. Also, a very dusty but smoth 3/4 HP Delta Homecraft motor. All that for $20.

Last one was the big ranch/electronics store I went to earlier. It wasn't half price day, but they were making deals as there was so much stuff left, so I got out of there for less than half price!

P&C 18" breaker bar, set of tiny metric hex keys, Proto 16oz BP, two Craftsman BE sockets, a bunch of Xcelite interchangeable blades for the roll I got the other day, and an Amprobe JR. Which I really only wanted for the case and the batter/fuse holder. I have one of these that was missing those parts so I couldn't pass it up. $10 for all of that. I love days like that, what with good digging for good stuff!

Picked up a Kennedy top and bottom set today for $100 on FB Marketplace. The asking was $75 and I figured they'd have a large amount of replies, so I offered $100 and picked it up immediately. Guy also gave me some HSS cutting bits, t-slot table hold downs, and some other smalls.

Wow, that Kennedy box set is in great shape!

Nothing new here, but I did finally take some pics of the Karcher electric power washer that I found in Dad's shed when doing his house cleanout (he's loving the new apartment).

It is a model K2.38M, made in March 2009. Supposed to make 1600 psi.

Is this a good unit, and worth keeping? I have a gas power washer that rarely gets used.

Mike

Electric is handy because it is instantly available if you keep it away from freezing. A local trucking company has a hot water version in an insulated shelter that they keep heated in the winter. Just pull up on the wash rack, turn on the water valve and the switch, and you're in business! The hose and sprayer live just inside the door to the shelter on a spring-loaded hose reel.

I've bought and sold a ton of Kennedys over the years. Never have I seen one with the original plastic dividers. That must have never been used.

Those would be metric and these were often from the same box. So someone was collecting them (as did I) as they used up things that needed set scews.

Also, although it’s been a while since I’ve bought any, but I think most assemble-it-yourself furniture comes with zinc-plated hex keys, while the pictured ones look oxide.

I think the older, years ago ikea keys were black (I agree, new are now zinc-plated). We never had ikea in colorado until recently. My ex-wife moved here from DC. She had a handful of these ikea hex keys in her kitchen drawer. For the longest time, I had no idea why she would have so many of the same kind/size. LOL

Over the years I had "customized" most of them to fit one off weird stuff. Doesn't everyone use a file and a hammer to get a hex key to fit?

Until recently (given away the year I moved four times), I had a can of miscellaneous hex keys. I am slowly getting a new stock pile from found and "grab bag" sources.

Thanks. As this was in a shed (subjected to NE winters), and probably had zero maintenance ever performed on it, I'll keep my expectations low.

Well, it’s JUNE.
Nothing clever comes to me this morning (Juno how it is, somedays), so here are the numbers:

The top-sucked spot for May was taken early by Arne73, for the beefy flammables cabinet, with four unambiguous “*****.”
bmwrd0 rivalled through a combination of straight, re-posted and implied ***** for his 15lb steel steal.
bubinga, jb books, and Old Radar got binary *****, and freudianfloyd and r_olson_06 both drew a single ****.

Congratulation to the suckéd, and may we ALL find something June-ique to gloat in the coming weeks.

Connect it up and try it. If the pump froze with water in you'll see it leak water, or it might just cycle on and off if it is small crack.

And my favorite pick from the weekend is a trash pile weather vane. Seems well built. Greased up the zircs and everything moves as it should.

n4g, you **** as well! I would love to come across either of those finds - love windmills, I've got a small one in my study, and I'm hoping to come across that very scroll saw at a price like that. Congrats!

A little late to the party, as I’ve been traveling.

Needed a couple tool boxes for work, so I picked up these Kennedy’s off OfferUp (2 different sellers). No tools came with them. I didn’t get pics when they were empty, as I am super busy.

The tool lot is a swap meet find.

The proto ratchet is a junkyard tool sale find.

The husky, I found in the junkyard yard itself. Rusted solid. Freed it up, and now it’s my beater ratchet.

I doubt I have more than a hundred or so in all the stuff combined :shocking::bounce:

Thank you sir. I assure you Nines ***** more due to him picking up several hundred dollars of trash pile gold in the same neighborhood he robbed that poor soul of a scroll saw.

Picked up more free peg board, hooks, and even more pipe dies from the hardware store that's cleaning out.

Daughter picked up a Taylormade TM14 Catalina golf bag from the curb yesterday. I saw it earlier and passed on it, figuring there was something wrong with it. She brought it home for me under the cover of darkness, and it's in perfect like-new condition. They sell new for $120.

Got some free time tonight and was able to put together two of my marketplace finds.

The Rockwell grinder I picked up last fall for $20 and just never had a permanent home for it. The cast stand I picked up last week for $5

A little drill and tap action and they are a perfect match. Very happy with how it turned out.

Mslund1:
You didn’t say it was $5 when you first posted the stand, or you’d have gotten a “you ****!” I’m not seeing the quenching cup with that 1/3HP, so I suppose the 3/4HP Wissota didn’t fit?

engineer2:
The links were one of the first-announced “non-life-sustaining” businesses to reopen around here.
The quality of curbside finds sure runs in cycles. When I first moved into my current neighborhood, I could pick more treasure in a one-block radius than I could carry home. Doors, hardware, furniture, machinery. Ah. Not so much any more. Everything is particle board.

I ended up taking the quenching cup/mount off. It didn’t work how I wanted with the Rockwell. The Wissota was too large for this stand, I have my sights set on another for that one. However, 2 grinders and 2 stands might be a little much for my home garage/shop

I was picking up some tools from a local ebay tool guy monday. He wouldn't sell me a torque wrench he had up on ebay with some watchers but he offered me one missing a part(s) for free. Looked in good condition and was Craftsman USA so I accepted it.

I wasn't sure how it worked but after finding someone on GJ (thanks vjquan!) who owned the same tool and watching a couple youtube videos I fixed it with a pair of needle nose pliers :)

I noticed this down the street, almost on the street, at the end of my neighbor's front yard. I knocked on the door (new to neighborhood, never met) and asked what they were doing with it. They said it wouldn't start, hasn't run in 3 years, and they wanted it gone. I took a look at it. The engine moved freely and it looked in decent shape so I walked it home :).

Took me a couple weeks to get back to it. First was happy to see it had spark. Had bad gas but the gas valve was shut off (good sign). The carb was dirty. I replaced gas, changed the black oil, cleaned the carb..... this thing runs great!!!! Barely have to pull it to start it. Past two weekends I've been trimming/cutting bushes/trees and making fire wood, wood chips, and mulch. I believe these retail $400 and sell working for $250. Seems to be from the mid 90s. Yeehaa!!!

Well, if they didnt open up the fuel line, no wonder it wouldnt start...

Bought a few tools like this before at estate sales. Always agree on price before I open the valve. About 30-50% of the time, that was half the issue.

I haven't found any good estate sales for tools or things like this in my area. There was a huge flea market where I use to live so never really searched out estate sales before. That "local ebay tool guy" is finding estate sales somewhere. I am sure I'll run into him at one some day :)

The Carb was dry so I don't think they had tried much in 3 years and it probably sat alot longer. The Carb was gunked up so needed the cleaning. Right, you get the better price by NOT checking things out first, increased risk with potential increased reward. I'd still give a slow pull on the cord and make sure the engine moves freely.
