Bunch of Williams Engineer/Machinist wrenches
Baker, Hamilton, & Pacific 6" adjustable wrench with 1/2" box end.
Worth No. 7 Blacksmith vise.
A few King Bee 6 inch reflectors
Master Lock display
Military? fuel tank, probably about 7 gallon
Bunch of Tractor carburetors
Some Stewart Warner gauges, and a driving light

I almost forgot. I had not planned to go to any sales on Friday, as I had gone out on Thursday and spent money. But, as I am a junky I scanned the listings, and low and behold, one of my favorite types of sales was going on. An old house with lots of outbuildings, vehicles listed in the ad and pictures of messy, rusty junk! So, like a horse to water I was there not long after it opened. But, it wasn't as good as I hoped. A lot of junk, and I mean garbage, cheap tools and broken dreams. But, I dug and found a little gold.

Sk Wayne ratchet, General drill index (with tap chart) chisel handles, a Indestro puller and a small box. Also found these pilot bits (though I am not sure of the adaptors)

I paid $8 for all that.

But, I couldn't get it out of my mind. So, before I went to see Rileysan and Smokeshow I hit it again. I knew there was stuff under all that junk, and saw a guy pulling a bucket (!) of MT4 drill bits out that I had not seen before. But, here is what I pulled out for another $8.

Half bottle of 3in1, Proto puller arms (which I needed!) US carabiner, calking iron for boats, Metal socket box (can always use those) an other Indestro puller and an extra forcing screw. I also got another Plomb puller arm but gave that to Smokeshow.

Mike, I have no info to help you but I'd say its south of 1000 lbs, 700-1000 range IMO.

And the things people put to he curb! - Well used Coleman stove (Bet its '77 like the lantern) toaster (Was it ever used?), and a 220 lantern that looks pristine!

I was thinking of ya as I picked them up. I haven't tried to start either one yet but I don't see anything that would keep it from working. I'll grab some mantles I have in my stash and give the lantern a try this weekend.

Putting quotes around the first line and Hoopeston gets a few hits, lists them at 101 e maple, making large Scale canning equipment in 1944.

This gives some history on Food Machinery Corp, but sounds like we should focus on Sprague Sells

A history of Hoopeston says: The Sprague Manufacturing Company was formed and built in 1897, renamed Sprague-Sells in 1923 when Ogden S. Sells bought it. In 1932, the plant became Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) and remained a viable manufacturing business until it was closed February 3, 2004.

I too picked up a used drill doctor a while back, and I look forward to a report.

I’ve had the base model 350x for a few years and have used it to sharpen literally hundreds of bits. I’m sure that most of us see plenty of used bits at sales. After sharpening, the bits cut like new but only the HSS bits stay sharp. At this point, I don’t bother sharpening any bits made in countries that historically make crappy tools, without mentioning names. For those familiar with the Drill Index thread, I like finding unique indices and prefer filling them up with newly sharpened bits. I wouldn’t be without a Drill Doctor and now have the second one for my summer home. There was a little learning curve at the beginning but once I figured out the correct procedure the sharpening goes quite quickly. The instructions were crucial.

Another satisfied Drill Doctor user. I have an older model that works well. I agree with Don that following the instructions is important. The other thing I would add is that the "point splitting" process is subject to operator control, rather than designed stops. This means that getting the split uniform requires the operator to develop a "feel" for how deep to feed into the wheel.

I find that the DD is great for touching up dull bits, but if the cutting edge is damaged, it is best to rough out the new tip freehand on a grinding wheel, then use the DD to finish up. This is because the DD setup process is geared to taking a small amount of material off the tip, and if you take off more, the angles will not be correct. I often reset the bit in the holder if I feel I am taking too much off the tip.

The company that makes the DD also is a leader in industrial drill bit sharpening, so they really know what they are doing. They made compromises in the DD design in order to keep the price point down, and if the operator understands this, he can do good work with one.

I see these machines at garage sales for $20 to $40 all the time. I picked up a spare cheap at a GS which gave me an extra bit holder, a 1/2" to 3/4" holder, and two spare grinding stones (not to mention the machine itself) for $20.00. I think this will last me a lifetime!

I found this toolbox with tools on marketplace. Agreed on a $25 price and I picked it up today. Unpacked it at home and this is what I found

I picked this up from facebook Marketplace today. I really dont know much about it. Any ideas of age or maybe model no? I looked the back and sides over for any markings and came up blank.

You'll have to look carefully but there should be a number on the back. The number will not apply to the board inside as they had their own number.

Those piloted drill bits are for a "Quick Change" chuck. Those chucks are roughly the same size and work like the "Chuck" on a screwgun. It makes changing drill bits a lot quicker and easier. You can usually find those chucks at theyardstore.com. Some aircraft maintenance facilities use them. Piloted drill bits are used a lot by aircraft structure mechanics.

It is quite possible to get along here just fine without it ever growing on you or without ever using it yourself. I haven't. Not in 11,565 posts, and most of those on this thread, including a stint as the host in 2018! I have never made an issue or a campaign out of it. And I'm no prude. I have just been steadfastly determined to say exactly what I mean when praising someone's picking, which that turn of phrase tends to either diminish or hyperbolize.

EDIT: But it does help that I can just break out my ****-O-Meter trophy from time to time without saying anything!

On a GJ thread recently, a member was talking about a guy he knew (SUMGAI) who shorted Hertz in February at $20/share and fulfilled his deal by buying shares at 56 cents and selling them for $20
