Lots of sales around now but a vast majority consisting of ungodly amounts of kids clothes & toys and grandma's kitchen/glassware. Numerous folks having sales have mentioned taking the opportunity to clean and clear out basements/houses while home due to the virus. Very few sales with tools.

A few items from the minimal man sales around.

Snap -On screw extractor set, Knipex pliers, Snap-on wrench and a set of Duro/Indestro metric short box wrenches.

I went back to the estate sale from last weekend and spent $10. Got another "Flash Cleaner" tin, a Planet Jr tractor wrench, and a cool bubble lens RayOvac copper flashlight.

The rest was all paper goods - Stuff I like to use to give some context to the tool displays. Grabbed a few "Motor Service" magazines from 1940-1945. A Dupont pamphlet on using Explosives for Field Clearing" Info on Raspberry Culture and the japanese beetle in Maryland. A great 50s copy of Hot Rod with a cool cover, and some random gardening stuff I liked the look of.

A 1938 report from the Department of Interior on using a Divining Rod - I might have to give it a try!

And my favorite of the day... A 1930 Austin Bantam Instruction Book, complete with lubrication chart. It's in ROUGH shape, but I bet somebody out there wants one. For now, it stays with me.

So we hit the Allaire Flea Market this morning and I found a slightly battered Dazor combination circle-fluorescent / incandescent drafting lamp for $20. After a quick cleanup and a new LED flood bulb it's in service on my workbench.

After taking the first picture I turned around and laughed - there are no less than 6 vintage lights in my basement work area. 2 more on my sons bench and 2 more in "storage" above the ductwork.

They say the first step to recovery is to admit you have an issue . . .

Cheers

Jim

Roy, all the bits are 9/32. Some are Plomb and some are Cal-Air which were made by Plomb.
Very nice! Post some details on the Plomb board. I finally have my first 48XX series socket thanks to Don. You like you have a full set.

Don, the red handle spinner is marked Cal-Air. Some of the sockets are also marked Cal-Air and they were definitely made by Plomb so maybe the spinner was to.

Tin,
Do these look the same as the ones you found?
-Don

Man, LOTS of cool stuff!

Flyer, I've NEVER seen a set of those Shorty DBE's! Nice find!

Jim, I've got more lamps than purposes, but I think you win!

Dudley, Is there any Flash cleaner left in that one? - Cool Flashlight also, I have one with a similar bulged lens around here somewhere, And I think I have that same, or a similar wrench. only mine has been twisted almost 90 degrees. - Lots of cool Paper there!

And Yeah, TM *****...

On Friday I was able to hit a few good looking sales, netting the following:

A Keen Kutter driver (a dead ringer for one of the drivers in the '35 Snap-on cat...), two Union gouge chisels, Plomb driver, Snap-on extension and driver, Plomb carbon scraper, Starrett automatic center punch, MAC and SK 1/4 deeps and a full vintage box of wood screws. All from two of the five stops, and all of $5.50. But the first stop looked the best, wasn't, but I did manage to find this:

Sadly it didn't have the chucks, but it did have all of the repair parts

That ran me another buck.

Today, I was able to get out of the house again (I kinda do this to keep out of the wife's hair, as she is working from home now and cannot get the free time. Works great for garage sailing!) Anyway, I hit a half-dozen stops, and about half of those were fruitful. First stop, I picked up this Dremal palm sander, partially for the box, which was super cool

That and the Proto woody were $5.

Lumping the rest together:

An almost complete set of Proto dyna rings, the afore mentioned Proto driver, two MAC Sabina combos, Inderstro socket, Snap-on ph1, Proto hex driver, P&C 9/16 combo, Armstrong 9/32 spinner, Proto LA 7/16 combo, Snap-on 3/8 combo, Plomb 7/16 combo, box of razor blades, Stanley 64 spoke shave (missing blade) and an unmarked socket box.

I also picked up this little tool box

All of that ran me six bucks.

Friday I got a chance to hit some sales. The first one was a multi-family sale that was very well run. People directing parking, everything well laid out. I even had one of the staff come up while I was looking and ask if I wanted her to make a pile at the checkout of the items I was holding! I took her up on that. :)

Photo #1 has all day's finds.

Sale #1, $11.00 total:
Clean Funnel (unused)
Battery Disconnect Switch (new, with instructions)
Extension Cord
Combo wrenches:
Barcalo 3/4
Vlchek 13/16
Proto Professional chevron 3/4
Herbrand 11/16
Craftsman WF 45372 Pliers

Sale #2, $20.00:

Hanson Metric Tap and Die Set (very well-kept, notice the shiny thing between the two largest taps in the top tray. That is a display aid to keep the lid open when displayed by the retailer. I've never seen one before.)

Sale #3, $4.00:

Two HSS drill bits.
Cleveland 9/16
National 11/16

My 'carboot' sale doesn't start up till last weekend of August, due to the lockdown. But did find two items I couldn't resist.
First up, a record imp no. 80. Bench clamp vice, it's quite tiny.

And to contrast it, a single woodscrew.! 😁

The place I bought the imp also had an old Zyliss vice, but didn't have the cash with me when I was there on Friday, and he wasn't open on sat. So might have missed the chance to get it, I'm off work till Thursday, so might still get a chance to pick it up. It has no accessories, but the vice and the two bench clamps. Anyone use one of these? It's it a good pick up?

It's about 2" Lugz. Small, but not what I would class as tiny. 1" starts getting there, sub 1" is tiny to me. (I have a couple of hand vises ~1/4")

I’ve never used one, seen many at garage sales, complete In Original Box.

My buddy received one from his in laws, said it was cool, but a PITA to set up, so rarely used.

Seems to be a frequent Fathers Day gift item, not bought for one’s self, from asking at garage sales.

Those numbers work for me lugnutz ;-) that system you all use on the other hand...
Outlawmws, agreed might not have been the best term for it, but compared to what I typically use, it's small.
I have a few handvices, one about the same jaw size, one lightly smaller, and then this one.
IMG_20200802_153507201.jpg
Which of I pull out an old obsolete ruler ;-) is a touch over a half inch. Interesting point in this vice, the handle is hollow, so wire could be passed up through it, no idea what is use is though?

I have a Zyless, its probably at its best for wood working and as a portable. Very lightweight, clamps decently, so easy to take places and setup, but as mentioned can be a little time consuming.

A buddy, who is primarily a wood worker, swears by his. He makes the most of his.

As to worth, Unless really cheap, an incomplete one should reflect that. I see people asking $80 ish bucks complete, and to me, that's too much (I never see then actually move, just sit on CL forever)

I got mine essentially NIB for $5, which is probably too much to expect to find one at, but it came up, they set the price, and I took it...

I think I previously mentioned, I live on a very expensive little island so the chance of finding something in the decent price range is right out sadly. If I get to visit again I will make an assessment and see.
Thanks for the input, I'm primarily a metalworker, my brother works with wood, so between us we might get the use out of it.
Quick edit to say, I think it would cost me around $40 currently, that's is less than he is asking

Except for the very early few years in the mid 20s, when Blue-Point was a second Motor Tools Specialty Company subsidiary, like Snap-on, all of it. Certainly all of it after it became a brand, merged with the Snap-on line stuff proper in Racine, then Kenosha.

Those look like water pump wrenches to me.

So I made it back from out of town, which was something of an accomplishment.... I really HATE the garbage they put up for highway signage these days. You write down both highway number and the street name (cause lets not have just ONE way to ID a street) AND I knew what town was next/heading for, and they used none of the above... :dunno:

Anyway out of 2 TOOs and 4 planned sales, only one had ANYTHING. The last one.

Everyone was masked everywhere, and one estate sale was taking forehead temps as well... (the lady in front of me refused to let them, and was denied entrance - she kept asking them to use in somewhere else...:wtf:

anyway for $10 I got:

Two small oil cans, a spare fuel can made in West Germany, and a small "Just Right" safety can with Patents pending, so I'm assuming its an early production model?

attachment.php

And A bunch of Brass/bronze parts - even the hasp is bronze! the oarlock pockets are cool.

attachment.php

And lastly an old cigar bot full of fasteners mostly - lots of brass which was excuse enough, but I'm hoping a couple of 12-24 Truss head screws I need may be in there. the box is old enough that it is all wood, and someone added wood dividers, so cool in its own right - I'll see if Greaze-off can cut the gunk, without ruining the art...

I love that cigar box.....at least that is what it looks like!

Glad you guys are scoring. This weekend’s sales were a bust. Flea Market today was a bust due to rain. Will try my luck tomorrow at a resale/collectibles shop that is reopening. Word is the have some stuff at decent prices. Did try my hand at Lowe’s Craftsman warranty. That worked well for old Craftsman pieces I’ve acquired that we’re broken. Just not US Craftsman in return.

Popped over to a nearby Estate Sale and picked these up for $22:

1945 Canteen, Cup, and cover (I'm pretty sure the cover is period the ink on the back is faded away....)

attachment.php

The canteen is marked A.G.M Co LUGZ: is that American Gas Machine Co? (if so they also made lanterns and stoves)

The cup is R.M.CO.

A 1943 M6 periscope the owner said was for tanks, and all the google hits I get say for the Sherman tank but I've not found an "official" link...

And a Folding Solid fuel stove with one fuel tablet still in the original foil. uses trioxane solid fuel tablets, which are still available.
